Ah but this year's Abingdon thread has got nothing on the 2003 thread.

It's clearly going backwards as we speak

Ron - sorry, didn't read 2nd part of your message before replying. Training going remarkably well, thanks, having run 25 miles in 3hrs at the weekend. So looking to take a big slice of last year's time of 3:30.

Glad to see a few more novices and slow people on the forum. This will be my first (in fact longest race I've done so far is 10k) and I haven't even told anyone I've entered yet. Thinking I'll struggle with no support though.

Trying a 10 mile race this week-end in Ranby and either Sheffield or Hinkley 1/2 mara in the next couple of weeks.

    Hi all
Thanks for the advice & info you've all posted here. Blackpool will be my first marathon, having finally run out of excuses not to do one. I've managed 2 hours for a 1/2M, so I guess I should be happy with sub 4:30. Actually, I'd be ecstatic just to finish!

Chrisss - no support for me either, so I know how you feel, but good luck with the 1/2M. I've got Leeds lined up. My objective is just to finish uninjured, never mind the time.

Sorry folks, but I can't cope with inserting my details onto the list of runners and riders, but if someone else can do this then please count me in: 719 Millsy (3.45 optimistically!). Never having been the distance previously this is something of a guesstimate, but my normal 1/2 time is sub 1.40, and I did more then 15 miles in two hours a fortnight ago, so 3.45 sounds feasible. My actual aim is to finish in one piece having run the whole way. Training schedule suggests 2.20 tomorrow, so by this time tomorrow I may know whether 3.45 is still possible!
Sweep - Do I detect a football connection in your last post?

    WrexhamRob...

Sorry, no showers post race. Can't find anywhere big enough to shower 3000 people. You can change in the expo though after collecting your kit from the Kit Storage Area. All details in race programme that is being sent out shortly.

For hotels goto www.blackpoolhotels.com for all the deals.

    Pasta Party tickets are £5p/p

    TC Folks...
  • Options
I am skipping the pasta party as my hotel
deal includes dinner on the saturday and
I understand that tickets for the pp are
limited. BUT - can I come along after, eat
no pata and say hello to one and all ? ?

    Hurray

Just ran the marathon last night (in my dreams).

It was dead easy....I did the last 6 miles twice and called in 2 pubs on the way round

    Woke up knackered!

    Sarahmoo (sarahmassey)

(....probably compensating in my dreams as I have a horrendous cold and haven't been able to run this week...its a nightmare! My ironing is up to date but my training is suffering!)

I am very glum today - went to the Bracknell Half Marathon and had to bail out at 4 miles.

My leg is broken I think.......well, OK, maybe not broken, but definately bu**ered. Serves me right I suppose, have been feeling the pain for a couple of weeks and tried to run through it - guess today was the day when my body finally rebelled.

Might have to take a week off now.

Hate that. Feels like the training programme is slipping away............
  • Options
((((tb)))) - sorry to hear that but a week's rest at this point won't do much harm and probably quite a lot of good.

Did 16 very hilly miles first thing this morning which being on the back of a late night with lots of food and vino was a bit testing to say the least!

    tallbird

your body is telling you to rest

you'll be fine in the long run

    Take it easy x

    (sarahmassey)
  • Options
Tallbird, know how you are feeling, the wheels came off for me as well at Bracknell.

Things won't slip away, the rest should let you come back a week later, stronger than before.

Cheers number 8 - was just reading your report on the Bracknell thread. Was it the heat that got you?

I saw a couple of people in serious trouble but still trying to finish the race (although I'm not sure being carried by 2 other people really counts!) and I assumed it was the heat that got them.

I know what you say is right (and you Sarah), but it is so hard to give it a rest isn't it? I just feels like all the hard work so far is vanishing, even when you know, realistically, that it isn't.

    Haven't been injured before.

    It isn't nice.

I think I will book a Physio appointment tomorrow - right now I am having all sorts of trouble just walking.

    *grumble*

Hope everyone elses training went nicely today :)
  • Options
We've got to trust our bodies eh.

I've not run since weds with this stinking cold....sinuses are up the creek. I am being forced to rest and HATING it but I can't resume training too soon as I know it will screw me up.

At least you had the common sense to stop at Bracknell tallbird...wise move

On another note, its scary to think how hot it might be at Blackpool eh!
  • Options
Commiserations to you Tallbird! The right Physio will have you back on track in now time.

I found Bracknell a lot harder than a half should be at this stage, too many long slow hills and underpaths. (2:05)
  • Options
Brian - I'm finding training a lot harder this year than last. I need to put in a lot of serious stuff between now and the date to have a chance of getting desired time. I was originally going to do Stratford half today and would have hoped to challenge current pb of 1:52 but went through that distance this morning in 2:17. OK it was a training run and it was very hilly but...
