i stayed in a 3 bed apartment in P del C which was well cheap - €200 for the week, and that was in May. only about 400 yards from the Ironman start too, which was nice. (not the south of france)
Maybe you could ask her if that's cheap or not, muzzy.... i assumed it was, but i might have been ripped off! i reckon i'll probably be staying at P del C at some point soon.
Head on up to the North of Scotland if you want to suffer in some hills. Pretty much the toughest hill in the UK is over at Applecross. You can stay at Torridon then do a long loop cycle of 50-60 miles or so that includes cycling up and down this: http://www.salite.ch/bealach2.htm
The problem with cycling in Scotland is it is f*cking cold in the winter and we can have a fair amount of snow if you're unlucky. I think I'm going to hibernate for the winter on yet to be purchased turbo trainer.
Good idea linds, a long weekend training somewhere cold wet and windy, with lots of hills and plenty of errr... anyway, it gets my vote. how about a youth hostel base somewhere in the lakes or wales or peak district. Somewhere central would be good like Birmingham. No forget that but somewhere almost central like the lakes or peak district. None of this poncey running off to the warm weather to 'escape', pah!
La Santa's great! Went there last October and was hoping to go back this year, but alas not.
The accommodation's basic and a tad tatty in places but perfectly OK and it's not a bit like Butlin's. You can opt in or out of as much or as little of the organised stuff as you want and it's a safe environment for older kids to do their own thing.
My non-sporty husband had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the airport at the end of the week: he'd not wanted to go at all, and made lots of "it'll be a crap holiday camp" noises, but ended up having a brilliant time using the immaculately-maintained bikes to explore the island. And then chilling at the bar...
Picky, picky, picky, did you think I was going to do it 'all' for you. If thats your attitude maybe you should just go to La santa, I hear they cater for people who can't do it on their own.
I still quite fancy Lasanta - if nothing else for the coaching and some warm weather training. It's cold and wet in scotland all the time and that means I'm no good in heat. I'll need to learn to be though for IMDE.
Hmmm. I'll avoid P del C then! I'm going nowhere with a union jack. I'm scottish.
Carl - we don't really need another 10. If we had 8-10 in total we could have a big apartment - 4 bedrooms/8 beds and 2 sofa beds. That would be between £150 and £200 each pw.
Warm weather training does sound appealing. Still interested in this, but not the tri bit. Not sure about sharing an apartment with 10 others though, I don't think I would get much sleep:))) Would arrange my own accomadation I think, nice to know you can come into various sessions if you want and there is space.
Jane - I'm not sure about sharing an apartment with so many people either though - I probably wouldn't sleep either. I'm still open to sharing a smaller apartment if you're interested in one of those weeks. I'm going to ring today to find out how booked up the tri training course is.
Right, I've just rung the LaSanta office in the UK.
They have places on both the long distance tri camps on 2nd and 9th March. There is also an ordinary tri camp on 16th March.
At the moment the only accommodation they have is one bedroom apartments that sleep a maximum of 3 adults (and one under 14 if you want to take a child). Apparently most of the larger apartments are time shares so Lasanta don't know if they'll be available until 10 weeks before the dates. They advise booking the small apartments and putting names on the list for larger, which often come up apparently. The cost for one bedroom is £562 for all of those weeks, so £187 each or £281 if you don't want to share a room. The cheapest would be a large apartment - sleeps up to 10, which would be £141 each, so not a huge difference anyway.
Comments
Flippin expensive down in Nice - just arranged a whole load of peeps to go down there. Nice in Nice though.
Matlock have a 25 mtr swimming pool. 'Tis supposed to be cheap and good value, said to be mainly child free so you can actually swim.
Candy,
If you decide on P del C I can see if sister knows anywhere fairly cheap if you like. They used to live in PdC but have now moved to the hills.
If people would like to do a long training weekend in the UK I'm happy to organise in Soctland, lakes or peak district.

We're definitely going back - next year, I hope!
Right we have about 5 people and need another 10... thats if notted hankie and union jack mob stop stealing our recruits (stay in your own thread).
