Thinking about this-I would prefer an early morning start thoguh as it will get dark so quickly. Even the 100 would be better finished on Sunday with the start tiems you are indanger of finishing too late on Sunday to get home
Guys, Regarding the start time, I choose this as I do not fancy two nights of no little sleep seen my weekly commute and other obligations.
If you start at for example 6, it would require most people to book the Friday as a dead loss. So in that sense compared to Monday it swings in roundabouts.
I also elected the 50 to start at that time as I want to make sure they have to use headtorches as well.
If everyone who is thinking about entering drops me a mail to the address on the page stating their preferred starting time for the 100, I might shift it forward to a 9AM start should the majority wish this. Any earlier and I would be very grumpy at the time of start. The 50 is fixed though.....
just regarding the start time i too would like 12. would love to have a plod around the course one day soon, get a feel for it.if anyone knows the route and would like a gentle plod around it let me know. I used to get ragged around that area when i was in the forces so i know what the terrain's like.
Is it likely to be very muddy if it rains or is it on the sandy heathland tracks I seem to remember from my rare visits to that part of the world? Any local advice on terrain gratefully received. I may be a wimp but ploughing through a sea of mud in the dark has limited appeal?
Guys, Just a quick update on the progress. Course is fully mapped and measured including elev profile (up on the web). Just over 10k ft climb which is relatively easy.
Permit for the TRA is applied for and verbally agreed to get the liability cover. Dick Kearn of Compton Harriers (GUC organiser) is appointed as independent referee and general encyclopedia to help me out in case I loose the plot.
Anyone who knows of people who want to man one aidstation please let me know.
Registration will be done on the Friday Night from 7 to 9 and Saturday morning from 9 - 10 at the clubhouse of BVR, details will be posted on the site. This will also be available for post run showers, approx 10 minute drive from the start.
Course is NEVER open to vehicles, you can only enter the area on foot or by MTB. Get caught and loose your vehicle
Anyone who wants to run the course with me over the coming weeks or months to see what they are up for, drop me a line and we hook up. Would also be up to do this in the dark to add to the sense of realism for race day.
Blackwater Valley Runners have agreed to support the event with marshalling and further assistance as required. Thanks!
Fantastic news, looking forward to it, i'd love to run the route in the coming mothns, trying to move house soon so will give you a call in near future. i'd love to pop down to the BVR one night soon to catch up with everyone.
Shades- Why don't you come and do the 50? That should get you finished at around 8/9 PM so you would avoid running the majority in the dark. You could be in the pub before closing time!
Andrew - Terrain is rough and butt ugly for most of it. Public access by foot or bike only at all times.
It might not be a lot of climb per loop but the type of trail will garantee that you will feel pretty sore after a while.
fellrunner we're not gonna talk you out of the 100,well i'm not, lol,. do we know how many people are intrested yet? know theres a few months to go yet though.

I have reposted a new thread now with a altitude profile on the race page.
Hope to see you all there!

Coat ... hat ... taxi!

Good luck to everyone who enters.
Is there any public access at any other times?

Sadly, I won't be running, not prepared to run in the dark on rough terrain.
