IW, I remember you aying something about the swim being up and down a canal, the website maps also support this. I take it this is a canal - german style - i.e. wide (deep?) with huge barges going up and down? Is the water tasty? Are there any monster pike?
The campsite near the start sounds most appealing.
SP - indeed it is very wide/deep, it's actually part of the Danube river but shipping traffic is banned from it for race day and during allotted swim training times. Not seen any fish and not noticed any bad taste to the water. Don't hug the bank or you'll scrape your hands or feet on the rocks 'cos it's shallow on the edges. The swim course is straight down one side and back up the other, you then swim past the start/finish to the upriver dam and come back. I've done a swim PB there, so has John.
There are crowds of supporters along both banks and on the bridges we swim under, it's great.
I am now definitely doing the 'Big Woody', what a horrid name by the way. So no Roth or Almere. The UK independent one is so conveniently close to home... only abt 15 miles away! Saves a lot of money, especially as my bank balance has started to resemble Maddy's after having bought myself a small house...
indeed you are smiley lady! I need to send you the entry form to sign as the relay entry has to signed by all three team members. I'll get it off to you!
ok will do! Your runner is an American work colleague of mine called Doug Roberts, he will be in Dublin for the marathon in a few weeks, staying in a hotel in Temple Bar, so maybe you can meet up with him.
He's running the Jungfrau mountain mara in Switzerland next Sunday. 1809metres climb!
sure thing smiley lady, he's just a couple of doors down the hall from me, but on his way to Swiss cheese land tonight. I'll give him the info when he gets back next week.
nnoooooooo, don't let him go. the smoke in the supermarket in switzerland.... and just about everywhere else. I'm sure my cold is a reaction to the lack of fresh air for 2 weeks!
