I have been in discussion with Run Liverpool (Who organised the Liverpool Tunnel 10k etc) regarding the possibility of Liverpool hosting a mass participation marathon in 2008.
There is some doubt as to whether there is enough demand for such an event, and as a runner myself I would like to see this happen.
I would like to know if you lot would enter the Liverpool Marathon as well?

p.s. Im not sure if that is the same weekend as the Matthew Street festival but thats worth coming to Liverpool for on its own!
forward the thread to everyone you know!! this could be like a petition!
But if it's in August they had better not have a cut off time - it could be a scorcher!
Would it be possible to have an optional half/10k or would that be too difficult?
Yes PLEASE!
I'd rather do the full one anyway
There's another thread somewhere with lots of support for it.
Great idea and hopefully will grow year after year and develop into a world class marathon
I think a marathon in Liverpool (even if it was a one off) would be brilliant.
I would do it.
Liverpool City Council (Alan R) have shown time and again that they are really good at organising large participation races (and other events).
I think it should just be a marathon on its own, I don't think it would be a good idea to mix it with another distance such as a half marathon or less. The L1310K half and 10K starting at the same time the other year caused a lot of problems for runners before the two fields split - unless of course there are seperate starting times.
I am a little worried about August as a date - a bad time of year if the weather is warm or humid. I would prefer a spring or autumn marathon - Mar/Apr or Oct/Nov are more sensible times of the year to be running marathons.
I dont think the date is transferable - the FireFighter World Games is a big thing.
Also if you did March April - you'd be up against the FLM ?
P.S. 21.5 degress inside the Tunnel
But if the date is fixed then fair enough...
Another suggestion was to stage the run through the 5 boroughs of merseyside like the New York marathon. Im not sure if such a route could be devised, but I like the idea of taking in the footy grounds, a beatlesy thing, tunnel and the 3 graces.
lets just have it
PLEASE
If Liverpool can pull in 5000 for a 10k run, surely it can pull in a few more for a marathon??
I'd run it. Co-inciding with the Fireman's Olympics seems a good idea and would lend weight to the argument.
but a lot of people get scared at the idea of a marathon
we have lost too many maras already in this country
