My sis is in the police, and she's had 'insider knowledge' that fuel blockades are starting on Saturday to protest at the 100p+ prices. It's not on the news yet, but I'd recommend that people fill up before Saturday, as I'm sure we all remember the chaos last time.
Not sure if it just affects the North West though, or the whole of the UK.

I was away with the army when the last one was on. It was all such good fun to watch from our little bubble. Not much fun when it meant I might not beable to leave and go home...
why should be held hostage by all the major oil companies?
no petrol
no work
ah well
the impact is always on us, the price of everything goes up when the fuel goes up - I may go and shout 'Grrrrrr' and my local petrol station cashier
Thanks for the link, TMW, I was listening on the radio and watching the tv but there was nothing on there.
The prices are absolutely ridiculous. There's a fuel station near me that has their price as '00.9' as the first one won't fit in the board.
It is generally about 107p for diesel round here.. I was in a motorway station last week and the lorry driver in front of me paid a whopping £298 for his fuel...!!
Lots of people know about this, im surprised its not been in the news today unless its being surpressed bt Gov/Police to stop panic buying?
I filled my tank tonight £56 from near empty.... just shows how much the price has gone up (£1.02.6 in Milton Keynes), only a few months ago a full tank was about £45!
I support the protest petrol prices are insane now, I travel 800-1000 miles a week.
No.. I think it was a heart attack..
It made me think about how much those guys must spend keeping those huge trucks on the road... I'd never considered it before..
"I'd recommend that people fill up before Saturday"
I thought it was starting tomorrow?
I have a 160 mile daily round trip commute, its very evident that over half the lorries are from Europe and most of those from Eastern Europe! I bet they fill up in the likes of Budapest for a fraction of what hauliers pay for fuel in the UK.
Then we get dozens and dozen of the foreign trucks parked up in and around all the streets near J14 of the M1. Noisy trucks at all hours, causing obstructions etc etc, im glad I live the opposite side of MK than J14.
isnt it usually the panic buying that causes the problem in the first place?
barlist- you should cycle there you lazy git!
anyway, petrol and fag taxes are great, they're the only two taxes that Vauxhall Nova driving chavs ever pay
In true panic buying style, I just went and filled my car up.. the first petrol station had no fuel at all..!! WTF..! This might be true then.. the second one had some pumps blocked off... my diesel cost me 107.9p/ltr
Blimey....
I cant see protesters suceeding in stopping the supply of fuel like they did last time.
Id imagine the Gov have some pretty robust contingency plans given the last blockade brought the country to its knees in just 5 days. If it had of gone on only one or two more days things would of got pretty bad.
Its not just the tens of thousands of police, firefighters, nurses etc that are key workers, almost everyone is to some degree.. Utilities, nursing, bank and City workers, If they guys in the City cant get to work the markets collapse.
lol at the guy during the last blockade that got arrested for having a wheelie bin full of petrol in his lounge ...
In a way I hope somethinig happens, you cant beat a bit of a crisis to liven things up
Id imagine the protesters could get enough attention without actually doing anything, all we need is a rumour? like this to spread (and it will in no time), everyone goes to the garage to fill their car and within a day demand will outstrip supply then wam bam crisis... empty pumps everywhere!
PH - That was my point.. not all key workers had access. Those initially deemed as key workers i.e. the nurses, polive etc had special supplies but the Gov soon realised that the country needs more than police and nurses to function.
No petrol means no cabin crew, check-in staff etc (Heathrow alone has something like 20,000 people directly involved with running the airport).. No people in supermarkets, shops, banks, no funerals, telephone call centres, no train drivers and rail employees.
Not many people living more than 10 miles from work are going to fight their way there on public transport, if they did it wouldnt be able to cope anyway.
I might dig a well in my garden just in case... err no, a couple of days of work would be a nice treat It takes slightly under a full tank for me to get there and back twice.
Incidentally I was commuting from Coventry to Milton Keynes during the last protest and had no probs getting fuel. Motorway service stations must of been a priority or something as they all had fuel.
