40z red lentils, onion chopped, can or two of tomatoes, black pepper, fresh thyme dollop of marmite . Cook until lentils and onion are soft, blitz and enjoy
Its a texture issue for me with quinoa and the fact that Gillian Mcwotsit recommends it
Another yummy thing with red lentils, boil them with a thinly chopped onion until in a sticking to the bottom of the pan mass, add curry powder and grated cheese, bake in the oven , a sort of dry but sloppy dhal. Cheap and filling
To be fair to Gillian - she does shock them into it. You do not get in that state by healthy eating and taking care of yourself.
This evening I shall be recording How to look Good naked and the 1/2 tonne mum. During the second programme I will be sat there no doubt, shouting at the Tv and calling her a fat bastard who is deluded.
You can get cous cous seasoning at Tesco. Just put a spoon in when you mix it up. Rather nice and takes away the blandness.
When I was on SW, I used to have a lot of the packet rice from Tesco. Takes about 7 mins. If you're on a 'red' day you can put in a tin of tuna as one of your B healthy extras.
Not a lentil/bean/pulse fan which is why I was never very successful as a proper veggie!
I have gymmed! Had to battle through the sale shoppers to get there, but put in a quality (ie tough) half hour on the cross-trainer. Couldn't do any more than that due to the time it took to get there through the traffic.
Arf. Have just had some sensible advice from other half: "When shopping for healthy stuff, remember to only get as much as you can physically eat before it goes out of date." Wise words.
Hello Bear (waves sheepishly). Remember me? Course you do! Well, there's more of me now than there used to be, as I have capsulitis in both feet and can barely walk, never mind anything else. So I MUST lose some weight.
Please everyone, may I join in, if Bear says I'm ok?
The 4 rules: 1 - Eat when you are hungrey, real hunger not emotional hunger! 2 - Eat what you WANT, not what you think you should. 3 - Eat consciously - eat slowly, chew your food lots, and savour every mouthfull. 4 - Stop when you are full.
Simple but effective - well, it worked for me
What Paul Mckenna says about Gillian Mckeith (?sp) - If you are what you eat Gillian Mck looks as if she's eaten gollum!
I've been lurking and thinking about joining in...
Nam, we have calorie counters on our Keiser spin bikes (which I know doesn't take into account weight/sex etc and possibly aren't even accurate) and in a 60 minute class I burned only 400kcals.
I think 'upto' is a key phrase there, Nam, but you're right it's certainly a killer. And I think 600 is achievable (like running for an hour)
So now I've posted does that mean I have to commit to something??

Quinoa is weird... Not sure I like it. Seems much the same as bulgar wheat.
Quite like cous cous instead... low fat and high in carbs.
red lentil and tomato soup is yummy, screampilar

Lentils are fab for filling out darn nearly anything, I reckon.
quinoa looks a bit yucky to me. Definitely a texture thing for me as well.
Couscous with a slightly too liquid sauce is always good too....
Bulgar wheat very nutty!
Soup sounds good beebs except for the marmite - could you replace it with mushroom ketchup?
YUm!
Says she who has been totally off food since Christmas!
I use cous cous instead of rice. It's actually surprisingly good with a curry.
I've just noticed I'm being sensible :-/
Ok probably won't try quinoa - and GMcK makes me want to reach for the unhelathiest thing I can get my hands out of spite. Can't stand the woman!
Nice recipe beebs - have done similar with puy lentils but red are much nicer.
(Am just up the road from the fire at the Royal Marsden and the constant drone of the heicopter is annoying me - still, hope everyone's ok)
Thank you Beebs - I'm very off food at the moment and that soup sounds good. I will try it later on. I'll probably swim later on so need the energy!
Does it work with canned green lentils? I have a packet of red in the cupboard. Are they the ones you don't have to soak? They are aren't they?
I like the recipes in 220. There are some really nice ones. I liked the low fat brownies in RW too. Although I ate the lot....

Red lentils don't need soaking, slaw, hope yo soon feel better
I like puy lentils as a salad with lots of garlicky french dressing on.
Red lentils are quick, cheap and tasty

here's a handy resource...
which calories in which foods database
They claim that RPM burns 900 cals in 60 mins... I know it's a killer but didn't know it burned that much?
