It's a good race, I've done it twice. Well organised and a top medal. From Paignton to Torquay and back twice along the same stretch of road. Flat and Hilly, with some nice scenery - you can see the finish from over a mile away.
I've gone in for this one, can't seem to find many good distance events in the summer months, I'm not familiar with the west country so is anyone able to tell me what the course profile is like?
I like the comment flat and hilly, is it flat in part and hilly in part or up and down all the way round?
I'm catching the train down from Doncaster on the Saturday to do the run and go back home straight after the race, so am hoping this will be a nice scenic event, some of you have got me thinking now just how scenic it actually is, please tell me it's not a long boring drag.
I think it is quite scenic - you can see the sea for the better part of the race. Admittedly you are running a lot on the same road, as you're going out and back twice.
It is genuinely flat and hilly. The bits in Paignton and Torquay are flat with up and down bits in between (first two miles or so all flat). In my experience how tough they are depends on how hot it is.
I last saw you at Worksop back of last year, that was my my second half after doing the GNR a month earlier.
I'm sure I'll be seeing you at Blackpool on Sundaty looking at that link, I've just checked out the weather and doesn't look too bad if you believe the great british weather man.
I haven't done any other half Maras since Worksop, done a bit a training and the old legs are aching, are you doing Sheffield this year?
Got knocked back for gnr 2008 so have entered the Great Eastern on 12th October instead.
They say whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, I'll tell you later.
The hills aren't too bad - but it is a really boring route.
Launceston half marathon is great though- can't remember when it is but the last time I did it there was a heatwave which made the killer hills just that little bit tougher!!!
my opinion of the views at Torquay are similar to say the views you might get of something nice in the distance viewed from a motorway. I don't mean that the road is like a motorway, it's just that it is a long boring road with no access or sense that you are near anything beautiful. One road in a busy town is much like any other.
Monday morning (payday) I'll be paying my £18 to enter this. Managed to beg a lift from a mate from running club...all we need to do now is persuade another PRR lady to do it and we get points towards the grand prix .
I'm still convinced Torbay hills are smaller than Plymouth hills

I thought this was a really boring race. Depends if you like running along really boring streets - twice.
I wouldn't do it again
KK, depends on whether you've mastered your pedals or not

Thanks for that, the date is in the height of summer whatever that is so I suppose it's the luck of the draw on the day.
How many turn out for this one?
Gosh, yes it's this time already ahh,
this undulating 13 mile fun run, i think it's our 7 th time at it
with a course best of 1.56, but more like around 2.05 now-a-days. as my Phil's heavier, and i'm now almost geriatric !!
Hi Fellas, is there nowhere you don't go?

Hi Andrew
how are u dear friend, i hope your well
we've done 2 ful marathons this year, a 4.41, and a PW of 5.25, on pulled calf muscle from 11 miles on
yes, Blackpool here we come
not sure about Sheffield ! were very very busy
it has'nt killed me, it's made me live again !!
So what is your honest assessment of Torbay?
Is it a nice steady even pace or something a little more taxing?
Is it more hills that flat? but I suppose that's not always a bad thing so long has they are not long and drawn out energy sappers.
If you don't go up you can't come down the other side.
The hills aren't too bad - but it is a really boring route.

Torbay HM ahh..
well, flat it is not .. hilly it is not , not really,
if runners think like of Totbay is hilly, then they should try Ashbourne Hm and Great Langdale HM ...
Torbay if hot, is an severely undulating niggler really
we can clock on HM around 1.44 onwards with a best Torbay of 1.56
it really does depend on how one tackles the first 3 or 4 miles
I like Greenicing & flipper janes description of it all
for me though, i don't find any course boring - i lost far too many years of my life nursing Phillip for that
i just get on with what ever is thrown at me
I love your positive attitude, take it on the chin and look on the bright side.
See you Sunday, hopefully get chance to say Hi before all the fun starts.
Micknphil
What a brilliant response - I shall try to correct my slightly!! negative attitudes. Thank you
Flipperjane
thankyou, but you are all entiitled to your own opinions, you see things different to me that's all
you take care
Kitten Kat
nice one LOL - take care
I have relatives who live about 2 miles from the start so I will be staying with them again.
Did this last year and found it quite tough in the middle but on the whole it's not a bad little race.

Sorry RB can't hear you
I shall be plodding along at the back with MP3 player firmly attached.
Gets lonely when you have no-one to talk to.
