I fully agree with you about about this flaming wind that just won't subside
MickC,
Hope the light at end of tunnel will soon appear after the double whammy of long court case/s and piriformis trouble. Not been a very happy time for you by the sound of things.
From Thursday to Friday we had continuous rain and heavy with it and was so bad I abandoned running outside and went to the gym to use treadie and crosstrain on rowers etc.
So Friday did 2 x 2 miles on treadie, 5k on rower, some m/c exes, and another 2 x 500m fast rowing to finish.
Saturday.....5 miles trails and legs were groadning with tiredness! Managed 10 min/mile pacing thats all.
Today.....Don't know why, legs lacking in power. Perhaps with all the medication I take for BP has summat to do with it. Or perhaps its like JJ once said I could be on the downward exponential curve, in other words I'm gettin old !! 6.7 miles 11.01 warmup, 10.25 u/trails, 10.06, 10.09, 10.05,10.03.
Seen the latest results from the last of the 5 mile race series. Looks like I was first in the v70 "group" and being the only one over 70 competing hardly any wonder at that. I did beat the other guy who was a v70 in the first two 5milers. Sigh..... not all so bad then No prize as all 4 races have to be run, I would have felt like a fraud if I had anyway !
Had planned a very easy 10m for today but the wind was so strong, and frequent showers, that I changed to a 5m easy as any 10 miler would have taken me to exposed elements of the Pompey coastline and it was definitely not a day for that .
So 5.05mi in 42.24, ave 8.24, ave HR 139, wHR 71%.
Jason has managed to get his degree course converted to 3 from 4 years which is a relief and Hannah is enjoying her first day post Uni with a trip upto London.
Sunday is the start of the Taylor 21st birthdays as it's Hannah's 21st and then Jemma's 6 weeks later - expensive time !!
JJ - I am running with my friend Tina tomorrow morning and I am thinking of doing some sort of speed session with her? Any ideas on for first time speed work for my friend.
We were out with Mil and Sil. Just got the message. What can I say?
Delighted, chocablock tip-top with admiration. Great news, fabulous achievement and probably just the start of a toppltastic time for thread star, site star, just all round star.
Maggie, I brought her over from the American RW forum. You can capture her by placing your cursor just to the right of her and then hold down the left mouse button and drag the cursor to left. The elephant should then be inside a blue box. Just do a control c, that is hold down the control button and hit c Then put your cursor in the message box left click and then control v and a pink dancing elephant should appear.
Ceal I am so happy for you -- you go from one major achievement to the next. What is the soon-to-tumble 3000m world record? And right after an 800m pb too!!
Mick Yes, I was given a specific butt stretch and I find it very satisfying but had better not tell you about it in view of Ceal's advice!
I love the clinking beer mugs in your post above as well.
I decided to do an easy run concentrating on style and with a couple of lamp post fartleks each mile except the last. Toe out at the end of the stride was the aspect of style I concentrated on and with that of course goes heel lift, considering you're halfway there when you do a good toe out. I think it also affects footstrike but more of that some other time. The fartlek bits, with a couple of exceptions when I just ran a bit faster, simply consisted of doing longer strides between consecutive lamp posts and I think these were actually more effective than the bits where I just ran faster. The whole lot seems to have worked out to a fairly pacey run (for me) and had I kept an eye on the Garmin readout I might have had all 11s.
There seems to be elephants not behaving as they should on this thread at the moment!!!!
Sleep eluded me last night!
Thanks everybody for the trumpets and other celebratory words etc.
Race report in next post.
aws good running, yes the toe off is very important. BUT I don't think you should be thinking too much about the length of your stride, but of course as long as you are aware that the length comes from the toe off not from the reaching out in front of one to get a longer stride you are just fine.
Impey I don't blame you for resorting to the Gym for your session the other day. You have so many base miles in the bank you can afford to do quality rather than quantity for a while.
JJ Yes, I had indeed noticed your speedy hill sessions. Good times for the 400's yesterday.
Empty yes, yesterday was definitly a day to avoid training on the coast. I was so pleased the match last night was not at Portsmouth!!! Expensive shopping time for you and Liz coming up. Girls can/are expensive
Maggie I presume Anne is the lady I met with you that day back in the winter. With weather the same as the present time.
MickC Thanks for the dancing, screaming, clapping, bonkers icons. Great fun. Also thank you for updating your chart. I am afraid I got carried away with my 800 time, I have in fact only done a time of 3.08. somat. not 3.06 mins. I will let you know when I get the official result, which may be in 3 weeks or so.
Where is Pammie, she has been missing since she had a Pizza last week.

Evening all
Mick hope you enjoyed you bank holiday.
Chouette good tempo run.

K2 said .... Met sharkie's club mate who raced with her last week.
No time to read back until tomorrow.
Trumpets sounding in the last post are for me!!!!
Just got back from Basingstoke Track, Women's, Vets League Match.
I ran 800 m's, a pb by 6 secs, 3.06 mins, or thereabouts.
Then
despite the wind
I then ran the 3000 m's. I think the last time I ran a 3000 was possible 2004 when I was still 60 yrs and ran 13.43 mins.
this time I ran it in 12.39.1 mins
AND
That was fast enough to take the LV65 British Record. The old record stood at 12.47.6 so I slaughtered it.
Am I pleased or what?
I still can't believe it.
Everybody I phoned on the way home had their mobiles switched off except Maggie!!!!! Thank you Maggie for sharing my news. x
ceal you are a star, I am so pleased I had my phone on to share your excitement. A massive well done to you and even more trumpets!
Ceal and an 800 PB as well, what a night.

You must be buzzing - so thrilled for you.

Hi there, thanks for coming on the thread especially to speak to me. How is life treating you and your family?
Ceal - I'm well aware that you can't lengthen your stride forwards without exaggerated heel strike occurring that actually slows you down.
BTW hearty congrats on your superb PB performances.
