Right, how do people remember how many lengths they have done in the pool? Spent an hour this morning giving the life guard a heart attack and at the end of it i was totally confused how many i've done, i was not swimming any specific sets which does make it easier when I do but still...any ideas?
Ido them in lumps of ten and use the lap counter on my watch 1 lap for 10 lenghts
Got a nice snowy slidey mountain bike in over the moors with Cornish Digger and some other like minded nutters loverly hopefully get a few miles run in with the dog later, loving the snow not to keen on the ice
Hi ridgebackmax, i got the book you suggested (Be Iron Fit) it's very good thanks. In it is the training programmes, i have a question though. The swim training ok 300wu (warm up) ok 8x50DR,5x(100+150) @20sec,8x50DR what is all that Algebra?? idon't get it? 200cd (cool down) can you help or is it just me??
Sorry me again lol promise this is my last one tonight
Just looked at price of IM Wales £335 that seems a bit pricey lol thought they were around £200 price. Looks like i need to re think and look at Outlaw but might be a bit soon July
Sportcount lap counter ring, it's brilliant and takes all the work out of keeping track of your laps. It's like a very small watch on a velcro fastener, fits around your forefinger and you hit a button with your thumb at the end of every lap.Our training pool is 50m but sometimes I have to swim in a 25m pool, I would never get through 120 laps of a 25m pool without my lap counter.

8x50DR would be 8 lots of 50 m drill
(100 + 150) this is slightly confusing but could mean either 5 x 100 or 5 x150 or both, with a 20 sec rest at the end of each
Just started writing my 36 week IMW training plan, including building the running up for Edinburgh Marathon before trying to get the longer stuff in on the bike
The only pre race for me so far is the London Triathlon, though wouldnt mind doing a sprint earlier in the year, still only done one tri so far so wouldnt mind a bit more race experience
Doozers got the code answer, Swim sets in Irofit are mega overkill I have never completed one yet i just try to complete as much of the session that I can within the allotted time given in the plan and have posted swim times between 1:40 and 1:12 on race day' for drills in the book in another section he gives you some suggested drills - fists/catchup/kick etc good swim tips drills on here
IM Entry fees are a shocker I honestly rated Outlaw as a race above the 3 IMUKs (2 Sherbornes/1 Bolton) that I have done and am hoping that Wales will be a step change up in quality so if cost is an issue Outlaws the one, if you start your training now you have plenty of time to prep for Outlaw
So would just swimming the lenth of time good enough or do i need to do the drills?? Im keen on doing IM just don't want to break the bank lol I've not done any swimming for years even decades and never done open water swim So do you still think July is possible?
ST- as RBX has said the drills are massive overkill in Finks programme. For what it's worth I was at the same stage as you last year and knew that I just wanted to complete an IM not set the world alight (not that there was ever any chance of that!) I just built my swimming up until I could swim 64 lengths of a 25 meter pool with no real issues - took about 43 mins so not fast. Then as anyone who was on the IM thread this year can testify I had a horrible experience in a OW tri and realised that I desperately needed OW experience. So during the spring and summer i used to swim at least once a week in OW for about 1hr and up to a maximum of 1hr 15ish. I never swam more than 70 lengths in the pool and that was the sum of my swim training. I completed the IM swim in about 1hr 29 mins.
I think you have time to train for the Outlaw if that's the IM you choose to do.
I might choose Emberton as a warm up event at the beginning of the season and have already booked Bala in June

What are we all eating? lets start with breakfast. Im a Scramble Egg on Toast or Poridge person.
ridgebackmax,
Im looking at either Emberton 22nd May or the Beaver 24th May. With may be the Duston sprint tri on 17th April.
If all goes well hoping to make Wales IM my first.
ST...........................your not on your own, it's all double dutch to me as well

Ok im off to scratch my head
This snow might grind the country to a standstill, but got myself out for a 60min off road run by headtorch last night. Fantastic!!!
ST - I'm definately a porridge with raisins and cranberries for breakfast.

I haven’t really lined up any warm up races but I will probably do Edinburgh Marathon and also doing a 3 day 200mile + MTB ride with my Brother
