PiT I with yo about it being about the distance, but like THE Marathon (London being the only one of course) people will have expected you to have done a branded IM
Anyhoo I'm to old for tattos, well so the wife tells me
My mate Moggie did Outlaw and got the Outlaw logo tattooed - he's featured in the next edition of 220 with it he tells me. Seen a few people since who did Outlaw and got the Outlaw symbol done. Personally I think the MDot does symbolise the "brand" so I would only have the MDot if i'd done an IM event (my opinion only). In fact I probably wouldn't have a tat at all (again my personal opinion), unless it was very small and tucked away neatly.
FB, I did indeedy, thank you so much. Will reply to message but I'm very tempted by it....just means having lightening fingers to get a spot though! Vichy looks nice too though.... but would mean I STILL hadn't done an Ironman... hahaha
A tattoo is a symbol, and as much as the M. is a brand, it is equally a symbol that you've done an iron-distance event, i.e. you are an ironman. End of. When I finish an ironman, or iron-distance event, I may get a tattoo, not sure, but if I wanted one, i'd get the M. whether it was an ironman branded event or not. I wouldn't care if I had to explain the event wasn't run by ironman, or if the person thought this was wrong; that is their problem! Each to their own Happy designing!
i rode with a guy in a training ride this year who had IM on one calf...like mine on the right only not as good and the outlaw symbol on the other....it looked cool....BUT..somebody asked him what the other one was...and this was a triathlete....and having failed IM last year...all year at races or OW swimming i've noticed the tattoo....and wanted one!!!! because brand or corporate symbol or whatever....IT DOES MEAN SOMETHING...and you will want to show it off!!!
Shaun Mills- I'm 23 and am having a consultation about laser tattoo removal tomorrow.
Can anyone who has had laser tattoo surgery tell me what the repercussions are? Do they completely disappear? Is there a permanent red- ness after? My tattoo is mostly black and I've heard thats the easiest to remove.
Also, I have an IM. tattoo on my right calf and I still love it- I plan on getting one for each IM I do too!
Had a tattoo I had done when I joined the navy at 16 and was pissed totally regretted it when I got to around 20 and had it lasered off when I was 40 no scaring whatso ever I have a little faint patch of green left on my arm (green is the hardest to remove) as I moved away before I could complete the removal it hardly notices and doesnt bother me so never got around to getting it done, I do have an M Dot in a dicreet place which I will not be lasering off when I am a gibbering, dribbling old fart in the old folks home who cant get out of bed I can remind myself of what I used to do
Oh and if you think having the tatoo hurt you are gonna love Lasering
holy crapola the pain with lasering is really sommat
you can pm me if you want. I know some places where you can even use Tesco Clubcard vouchers!
I had two of mine done. One handy trick is to get some emla cream and put that on for a while before you have the laser. That and take some paracetamol etc about half an hour before you go. Black being removed is very similar to the pain of having a tattoo done I thought. Having quite a colourful tattoo removed I went through the full spectrum of laser equipment :-/
my only pieces of advice are to not get a tattoo done when you're 16 and to make sure that whenever you do get one to make sure it actually means something to you- I think an M. qualifies for that!
I've got loads of tatt's including an MDot, I don't care what other people think as they were all done for very personal reasons and don't regret any what so ever. Make the design and reason personal and it will never matter what other people think. That's all...
I don't care what anyone things about my tatt's, have an M. as well as several other
the 140.6 sticker on the back of the car confuses people... Apart from in a car park in Chamonix last summer when a French guy came over and said I wish to shake the hand of an Ironman, I have only managed a half...

I think I was too young - my young sexy legs ruined from here on.
I wonder how many 23 year olds have had laser removal?
As long as you're prepared to have the following conversations:
Person notiicing your tattoo: "You did an Ironman? Which one did you do?"
You: "Outlaw"
PNYT: "Oh, so not an Ironman, then......"
Personally, I wouldn't want a tattoo at all, let alone a trade mark.
If you really want one, why not go for something with the distance rather than the brand?

Really?? I'm not quite at the point where I hate it that much, but then again i've only had it for about 18 months, give it another year or two...
... then again I might update it and put on every other race I do
