thanks guys...not sure on the scan..be a week or two as i have to wait but the physio has put it as urgent so i'm hoping soon...at least i'll know for sure then and can decide...i guess i was pushing it to think i could do all this a 3rd year in a row and stay injury free image

    Andy get well soon.

Soupy good for you. Maybe cycling's your thing?
  • Options

I don't know about cycling being my thing TJ - I don't seem to get out on it as much these days which is criminal given the lovely weather lateley. But I've restored my love of running and feeling much better for some shorter runs pushing the pace up a bit. I'm now on 40mins 5 mornings a week at 11.30min/miles. Thats 2mins/mile faster that I was doing 6  months ago an when even 12.30min/miles  left me gasping for breath after 5 minutes. Its weird how its suddenly changed, almost overnight and it shakes off that nasty black dog a treat.

I've no regrets about pulling out, it was without doubt the right thing for now. image

Really glad things are looking brighter again for you Soup.

has this thread died now SD is out??

got the call yesterday...scan should be in a week or two....but honestly...i think i'm resigned to no irondistance this year.....just about the only thing i can do now is run...even riding is painful....so i might just console myself with a marathon in venice at the end of the year and go onto RW instead of TW image
    i'll let you knwo
  • Options
Andy, sorry to hear that, life's a bitch at times. At least a marathon will give you a goal to focus on, but hopefully things won't turn out quite as bad as you think.
  • Options
cheers Gary, not spoke to you in ages chap. you ok??..
yeah i hope you are right...its pretty much worse than its ever been though and i've not even been swimming....the physio is no orthopaedic specialist but her outlook was not good...but as you say...venice will be nice and my running is coming along nicely anyway so maybe it will be a blessing.
  • Options
Fingers crossed. Hopefully the no swimming and no biking will give it the proper rest it needs, and then with a little intervention, the strength and mobility can come back. But with no swim training, or bike training, then Outlaw is probably off.

How's Cat getting on with IMUK training?
  • Options
yeah thats sort of how it feels...i'm not too bothered about the swim...i reckon i could do it without much training in a similar time to last year...but i want to do some...if only to prevent my shoulders from seizing up with doms halfway through the bike.....But...Cycling is a different story...i need to be strong on this and 4/5 weeks just wont cut it...i can cycle....but after a couple of hours i'm in pain...and that just wont make for a good day...probably end up in dnf and god knows what damage to the shoulder itself.

she's doing well...she needs some swim confidence and perhaps more time to train....work gets so in the way for her.....she wobbles a bit from time to time...i think she can do it...but i dont want to either push or discourage her so i just let her make her mind up...it doesnt help her not having me to train with....but i think she'll be fine in the end.

Better tell the Bayliss' to watch out, they'll soon be a new iron couple

hahaha...cheers Gary...though i doubt either of us will give them anything to worry about...except in a drinking comp maybe!!

Sorry to hear your news Andy. image Always a difficult decision (as i know too well) but sounds like a sensible one.  Enjoy Venice.

  • Options

    +1 Andy,

Bad news, but ultimately you don't want to do any longer term or permanant damage.

Recover well, and give 'em hell in Venice image

  • Options
    hey people....thats it i'm afraid i've withdrawn.
i have been hoping the consultant would have good news...but in realist....even if he waves a magic wand next week....i'm still waaayyy behind where i need to be with 10/11 weeks left. i could do the swim...but i'm not even able to cycle much....certainly not for 4-5 hours.
so i decided last night it was time to face up to it.....still gonna try for venice...and if i get my shoulder sorted i'll do liverpool and tatton Oly's i think and aim for a bit more speed.

if the thread rumbles on i'll happily pass on some advice.....i'm pretty gutted and will be on the day...but its the best decision

Time to get this thread back on a positive note I think. Come on - tell us some training success stories. How is it going for the rest of the gang?  No more injuries allowed from now on.

In fact I'll start even though I'm out of it (the Vit still awaits).

I had a brilliant swim the other day. I've started to work on my breathing and its made a whole heap of difference so that when I turn to breathe I now feel myself still gliding forwards instead of slowing down or even stopping. My teacher told me to dip my head very slightly (feels odd) which means that I look directly to the side rather than behind me like I've been doing for years without realising it.  And I turn to breathe a bit earlier now which gives me time to get a relaxed breath rather than a rushed gulp. 800m never felt easier.  I love my swimming lessons. image

    OK!

Positive #1: I ran Frimley Lodge Parkrun as part of my LSR today. It was nice to see the scenary for once, and take in the atmosphere rather than feeling like I was going to vomit. Way slower than PB, but sub 25 minutes.

Positive #2: Yesterday I had a coached session at the pool. A few things to work on, but all good feedback.

Positive#3: First sportive tomorrow. Looking forward to eating vast amounts.

Well done Cat - what sportive are you doing?

I'm doing a 65k audax from Maidenhead tomorrow.  Looking forward to it, especially as its a cafe to cafe route. image
