Where do you get news from that involves more than 2 senses, do you have smellovision?

No, but see how you've misinterpreted what I wrote. Proves the point doesn't it.

Anyway back on the Brexit business. I note how the 'remains' were voting for a system which was going to welcome Turkey (We've all seen Midnight Express) to the fold.

Lets see. We've just had all that 'takeover' nonsense with all the arrests of half that country by the other half. And now we have one for those who hailed the EU for it's tolerance, where a guy who happened to be gay was kidnapped and beheaded.

    Nice!

The Remainers knew that Turkey had no prospect of being allowed to join the EU. It was the Leavers that were convinced Turkey would be allowed to join because David Cameron reiterated they weren't going to. Meanwhile footage emerged of Boris Johnson saying it would be a good thing if they did.

I know this is confusing - just remember we all live in opposite world now and it will make sense.

Actually Turkey applied to join Europe in about 1963. Never going to happen.

Obviously that was something I read which had been shoved through the front door.

It's surprising how real something appears to be, simply because it's written down.

Maybe we'll have just have to pay a bit more? Actually...we can still get scummy foreigners to come in to do this can't we?...as long as they don't settle or bring their horrid families or go into town where they hurt my eyes. And of course as long as they're not from Turkey as they are obviously all evil.

This piece about brand preferences and the referendum sounds like cobblers but actually makes a fair bit of sense:

Indeed. I might enter politics, a sure fire way of gaining popularity is slagging off foreigners.

Now there are actually people claiming that Brexit is winning us more medals at the Olympics.

To be fair I may have read the only six posts anywhere that say this this but it's sill six too many.

i mean you think dumbfuckery has bottomed out and then it finds a whole new level...

Screma, I note that the basis of most of your posts are alluding to the fact that you must be smart and clever on account of:

    (1) Your colleagues are all idiots.

    (2) Anyone who voted 'out' must be stupid and uninformed and, of course, idiots.

Giving out such labels puts one out on a limb when the subjects of such ire can prove that they might be smarter than you think.

My colleagues are not idiots (although some of them seem reluctant to do their actual jobs) anyone who believes that Brexit = medals is, most assuredly, an idiot.

Having said that , if you are talking about making errors of judgement, yes, we can all do that both off and on forums can't we?  image

    Agreed.

I'll try to post only when sober in future.

Remember this? Holiday almost over, time to get back on it. Economy is going well and also we appear to be shithot at sport. God save the Queen.

Word on the street is we're going for a deal similar to Canada's, with maybe a bit of Switzerland's deal in there.

    Something like that.

I am now convinced that Brexit is going to be renamed Fudgit. Only remainers will be happy and there will be another rise of the far right racist parties. At least the racists have worked out that they were not voting to instantly put tanned folk on boats so next time the vote will be different.

I read on twitter that the Daily Express was proclaiming Brexit to be a great success so far. Using the second quarter results as proof. And ignoring the fact that 12 of those 13 weeks we looked set to remain anyway.

Things have been relatively stable which is good news. We are in a period of inaction though. It might be politically astute to keep it that way for some time.

Mrs Brown's Boys has been voted sitcom of the century in an online poll. Comedy and politics for real and authentic people, not snobby elitist pricks. Or a load of facile shit.

GB has one of the ethnically diverse population in the world and especially London ( where you live ) has over a third that was born outside GB

So why do you always put the brexit vote down to racialism ? it begs the question who the real racialist is ?

If you don't like that statement then think how others feel before you answer.

Only thing I find unsettling is how Smith is saying that if he becomes Labour leader, his party will block any moves to invoke article 50 unless there is another referendum.

That's unsettling not on account of the potential result. It's unsettling because it proves that those in power will only back their own personal agendas, ignoring the results of a democratic vote.

To be fair. The UK doesn't appear to have to invoke article 50. It simply has to retain the option of doing so.

Fundamentally nothing has changed hence the most recent data suggesting that the fall out hasn't happened/isn't as bad as doom mongers fear.
Sure there hasn't been an economic fallout but it's still early days.

  • Options
    skottyskotty ✭✭✭

The fallout hasn't happened because nothing has changed. We are still in the EU.

In addition a lot of doom monger predictions were based on the fact we were being told article 50 would be invoked immediately in result of a no vote.

Cameron, to his credit, averted the worst of it by refusing to do it.

    so how does that work?

stay in the EU and continue paying and accepting freedom of movement forever but with a constant threat we will leave if we don't like something?

    London didn't vote for brexit.

    skotty,

Yes we're still in the EU. But do you think all the (financial) gains made since the vote are based on the result being over turned, or article 50 never being invoked?

I'd rather the government invokes article 50 right now, and be done with it.

If they did, we'll all be able to compare the 'before', 'during' and 'after'.

And then some of us will be able to see which the wind blows and use it to our advantage.

Of course it will always be the same people who 'gain' regardless of results. Always was, always will be.

Anyone who uses 'racialism' when they mean 'racism' is obviously too busy being racist to learn the difference.

Asitis, I am still reading comments from brexiteers and, apart from a few reasoned arguments, most of it comes down to:

    Bloody foreigners stealing our jobs

    Bloody Muslims raping our women

...with lots of very poor spelling and bizarre logic. There was one bloke I came across yesterday who had convinced himself that  all remainers were hating Team GB's success because it proved we could "succeed on our own". What is more he kept repeating it in multiple posts.

And I really wish the above wasn't true because I honestly don't want to believe bigots and idiots exist in such great numbers In this country.

That's what I understood to be the rule. Give people their democratic right to vote while carrying out the job of governing. Not necessary that the governing and the people's vote have to be the same thing unless it suits. Beautiful democracy, avoiding anarchy, revolution or any major change from many years of  status quo.

Where on earth do you meet these people so I can continue avoiding them? Incredible sentiments.

So that's the reasoning. That and vote out.  Another cheer for VD

Scream. The first thing my daughter said when I mentioned  I was voting out was to call me a racist even though my oldest friend is from Nigeria and I play chess every week with my Romanian neighbour. I don't believe she meant it, It was more of a sudden reaction to what she was picking up from others.  The very same sort like what's on here. Bigotry only breeds more.
