Technically I got slower last year. But then I ran a 1:29 HM last month (and have been broken ever since) in my first running-only race since London Marathon a couple of years ago! I don't think I could keep that pace up for double the distance...
I've got my bib number, 59526, it's on the aso website under the my order bit.
Can anyone tell me about the doctors certificate we need, do I just print it off the website, give it my doctor and persuade him to sign it? Does cost anything, or need an examination etc?
Roundman, thats cause you battered your immune system on the way to that glorious pb in Paris. (Plus with little kids in your life you are an easy target for those lurgy bugs)
Hi all, I'm from the 2012 Paris Marathon crew. Anyway, still am not running yet, but I booked Rose just to see if I can get around. Doctor's appointment next week to get a referral for a women's physiology specialist. In other news, my 4.5 month old rolled over for the first time yesterday!
KO'S (pronounced 'chaos'). YAY! Welcome back. And good for you setting a stake in the ground for a return to fitness. Being a Mum is an incredible responsibility and I'm sure you feel like your body has been public property for a while. Wishing you a good sense of getting back together and being able to do something other than the mothering (and working) role!
Here's a pic from 2012 just before the race. I'm on front row with KOS to my left and TinkerBEL to my right. I went on to fall madly in love with one of them
Some other people who I think were new to Paris Marathon that year (forgive mistakes please and correct me):
Chownsie, Audrey B, Kaz, Yer Maj, Eggy (had you done it once before?) and Danni. Plus 3 blokes on the end who I can't remember now.
Umm'd and ahh'd about Paris 2015 or running somewhere else.. But I'd like to beat my time on the same course. Aaaaaaaannnnnd I had such a ball. Paris city is special for me and the Mara is extra special. Hopefully I will make if for the Arc photo 2015.
Is it weird I have my training plan planned out already......
Doctor's certificate question: a good question that will be asked many times. I'll have a go at answering:
Yes, print the form off the website and only use this.
DO NOT phone your doctors reception saying that you have a medical form that needs signing - this will most likely lead to having to pay some standard costs. Instead make at appointment to see the Dr - either for a general medical check up or when you have another complaint and whip the form out at the end of it, explaining that the French like to be a bit bureaucratic and the form is for their insurance purposes.
The form just says that on examination your Dr knows of no reason why you can't compete in running races. Usually they just listen to your heart and test your blood pressure, plus they should have your past medical history at their fingertips. Some Drs want other things ( like ECG) . All being well, many Drs are then happy to sign and stamp at no cost. Others require a fee. Basically it varies between Docs.
Can anyone add to this advice, then perhaps we could refer to it in future as being on page 3, which is always easy to find
For those who don't know me I am a 28 year old, elite , sub 2.5 hour runner.
Those of you that do know me, shhhhhh.
Did Paris in 2013 and 2014 but no plans yet for 2015. But I have no intention of leaving the forum. It's a great place to be. I would have to be physically evicted. (That's not an invitation Yer_maj)

OMG I'm actually listed as a starter in next year's Paris Marathon. Official bib number and everything. What the Foch have I done? Marathon site helpfully telling all visitors this a.m. that there are 337 days to go. The thought's enough to take me straight to a 7 on benignmurmurring's lovely chart.
Sorry DV, I would volunteer but think I might fall apart under the weight of responsibility, especially after eleven months of it! Phew.
Did 2 of 3 5mile series on Wednesday in 40:23, 11 seconds slower than a fortnight ago. I would have made the sub 40 but, well, I really needed to find a bathroom. REALLY. Managed to find a public toilet but it was locked (!) then managed to cover the rest of the distance without imploding/exploding. Lesson learned - don't eat two extra thick crumpets (one with peanut butter) two hours before starting.
I'll get you next time, sub 40... My running buddy Hayley_Hamster has a PB on that course of a fantastic 37 something, and we're about the same speed so I reckon that's what I have to aim for!
Welcome to the thread, everyone!
How's everyone else getting on? Has anyone else done a colour run? There's one in Norwich in a couple of weeks, looks really fun but is £22, which is a huge amount for a 5k.
Hi all. Bonjour! I did Paris marathon 2014 as my first marathon and loved it. The people on this thread are also pretty knowledgeable about Paris marathon and its quirks as well as marathon running in general. They're good company too. Stick around. I intend to
Re: the Doctor certificate question.
You need to use the form provided by the official site. You can find it here:
Good advice from benignmurmurring a few posts earlier. I would add: don't leave it too late, get it stamped (this seems to be important), make sure it is dated within 12 months of the event (so you can't re-use last years one then), don't let the Dr change the wording or provide a letter as an alternative, and you won't get your running number bib without it.
Whether you pay for it is a bit of a lottery. I had to pay £60 for a medical in order to get mine signed this year, despite already having had a full NHS health check that gave me a tip top assessment.
Oh, and convocations? I wouldn't worry about that until a few weeks before the event next April.
Bonjour mes amis! Am I late? Looking forward to Paris 2015 after having an absolute blast last year. Fun, transvestites, disco tunnel and wine - need I say more?

Hi, I introduced myself on the last thread. Hello again everyone. Paris 2015 will be my first marathon.
TD - Paris 2012 was marathon number 8 for me, but my first Paris marathon and my first sub 4.

Not running Paris 2015 but I'll still hang out!
OK, all present and correct then. A bit early for the stool chart I think, wouldn't want newbies to get the wrong idea.
2015- uhm maybe,,,
Hello all, I'm being fashionably late to the party
I'm dressed smart and I've brought a bottle tho
Don't ask what it's filled with, mind
im still here too, don't think I'll be doing Paris 2015 but such a great forum I'm sticking around
You rang?
Anyone want to volunteer to be List Fairy this year...?

KS - I have a minor peanut butter addiction and I have recently found that 3 teaspoons, 1 hour before a run, do not make for a comfortable finish.
Hopefully, lesson learned.

hehe, oh yes! How weird, peanut butter after = awesome. Peanut butter before = er,not so awesome.
I've just realised I'm on a current run streak of six days, hoorah. I'm off swimming tonight though.
No... but I do appear to be
Keith! Lovely to see you here... At least I think you're the Keith I know recently ran the 50k national champs and got their 100 marathon vest?
Hi all.
Lovely to see a new thread started up. I shall be returning for my third Paris Marathon.
Keyser - I cant do peanut butter full stop. Darn nut allergy Well done on your running streak!
Weedy is it the same contents tricky put in a bottle just before the race started this year? Cheers....

Just what would the wrong idea be! That we're stool obsessed?! We've got our own flags! Have you seen the discussion about peanut butter?
