Watch the very fast stuff Dean I found piriformus very sensitive to short fast speed work as you say plenty of stretching needed before and after sessions! I'm sure John will keep you in check
No relays for me either, the squad was too cep keyed due to Manchester marathon and other races people had committed too so we aren't putting a team in.
Couple of decent sessions this week so hopefully things are on the upturn.
I ran the inaugural Ron Hill Accrington 10k last week. A challenging course and couldn't help thinking it would have been right up your street. Guy who won it in 34 minutes must have made a stop in furst mile as he came bombing past me just before the first mile. To be fair his PB on P10 is 29:XX. I would say it is a good B race and would recommend for next year if it fits your plans.
this injury is a classic case of me not being smart. if i told you the run of days/paces of training i did, it would be fair to say i asked for this injury. some lessons learnt, just because i feel strong doesnt mean i should play catch up in my training. recovery/easy runs are needed. dont think i will be out for long just need to be smarter when im back.
Get back to 100% quickly Dean. Hopefully it will be a speedy recovery as I was going to suggest hooking up for RW Wembley Doubles Comp. Given my role was to be hanging round the goal and tapping in any rebounds you would obviously be providing the engine room running and speed
Just read that he did an extra loop at the start! Think that must have added an extra quarter of a mile on. Ron Hill started and then ran the race, seemed a very pleasant chap and was having his pictures taken with runners for ages.
Did a Samir, 1x1mile rep at lunchtime in 5:26. Looking at other people on the Garmin group, there are others going just as fast for more reps and tempos.
I'm running National 12 stage tomorrow for the first time ever not sure my wisest ever decision as cold not fully gone but it has been improving all week.
I'm looking forward to a running first despite being an old git!! Checking our team we seem to have 10 quality original A team members and 2 off us helping to keep team in a strong position! Short leg here I come!!!
parkrun this morning. New parkrun pb, which is good, but slightly annoyed to miss out on a sub 18 by 2 seconds! Had a good group to hang on to, but in the last 300m just tipped into oxygen deficit and lost time retching! It mant I fell 10 secs behind the two leaders. Shame, as they are moving back to the other course next week, which is a bit slower. That said, pretty pleased with a pb as I wasn't expecting it and was slightly hungover this morning! Shows the difference running in a group makes
had to watch bus finish, though I missed the retching. My gout is still niggling at my left big toe and I now have to carefully balance between running and recovery, and a big 11 yesterday with a fast middle mile seemed to be a bit too much so I'll have 3 days off and tick the taper along.
The gout is piss annoying, it isn't a running injury but stops me running, and if I am not careful I run and compensate and then develop a real injury.
Fingers crossed for that clearing up good and proper in time for London Philip.
Just looked at the splits for today, which are interesting as I thought I would have lost time in the last mile, but no: 5:47, 5:46, 5:42 and the 0.1 at 5:39, which suggests it was getting faster that caused the retching, but not sure I could have taken much off the last quarter mile anyway!
bus, splits look very tidy indeed, especially the middle mile. On that course, you get 4 sections of grass and two come in the middle, so fast start on grass and then tarmac to mile one. Mile two is back to the start over the grass and back out again, mile 3 is almost all tarmac with the last 0.1 or so all on grass.
Luckily the grass sections were pretty firm yesterday, which helped. That tight turn at the far end still upsets the rhythm a bit though! need to get myself to one of those Last Friday of the month 5ks before too long.

Piriformis. Had to abandon today's training a during the warm up. Lots off stretching required

Will SG ever post again?

Heal well Dean.
Piriformis Dean!
Just had a read up about it. Ouch! Hopefully the treatment/ re-hab works.
SG not posting. Its happened before.
🙂
mend well Dean. I find it can also manifest itself elsewhere (hamstrings, lower back) so don't neglect stretching and foam rolling them too
And spiky massage ball:
good advice all. thanks.

We've all done that Dean - me more than most . Good luck in sorting it out!
I'm having a rest day today - lots of twinges and aches in odd places until warmed up last night, so best not to take any chances.

Air feels cleaner here today.

Yeah, but I bet theirs are with longer recovery
You parkrunning tomorrow? I think I might as I will be my last chance on the slightly quicker Rye route.
Most likely. I'll bring your lunch-box.

Great race bus. Tidy splits getting faster as you went on For a PB
Cheers Dean
