Well I've been sitting here feeling a bit despondent at the task ahead of me for IMUk. Just 2 and a half hours of cycling today left me so hungry that I can't even begin to contemplate how I'll cope with 7 and half hours of cycling..
This thread has given me a spark of hope again..... If you all managed to get there somehow then maybe it is possible
I was the one who got hypothermia in the swim leg of the London Oly Tri last year....seriously! Couldn't swim properly due to cramp and was so long in the water that I ended up being whisked off to medical tent to be warmed up! ( although I did manage to finish the whole event in the end....with probably the longest T1 in history ).

I started in earnest half way through 2009. Since then I have done 4 sprints, 1 almost-Oly and an almost-HIM, so I wimped out on the hardcore approach.
Before then I could just about swim 20 lengths (badly), could run about 5km and didn't have a road bike. I can just about swim 2km (still badly), can cycle 100km (slowly) and can shuffle round a half. Or at least I could in May. Right now everything lacks a bit of focus and IMR seems a long way away so I'm not worried. Yet.
I realise I am a disgrace to the Pirate traditions.
Swim- I'm rubbish at swimming - managed 26 lengths of 25m pool today - mixture of breast stroke and front crawl . Have never done any regular swimming before but have booked to do a total immersion workshop next month.
Bike- Have cycled 25miles per day commuting to work for the past 2 years on an old hybrid. Have just started doing long rides on a road bike at the weekend - can confortably do 50-60 miles at 16-17mph
Run- I hate running but have managed to go running approximately 3 times per week for the past couple of years and completed the south downs marathon in 2009 and 2010.
Swim - went Monday after a run for my first training swim for many a year and managed 45mins, but not all front crawl and don't know how far I covered as counting lengths seemed to be less of a priority than keeping buoyancy. Probably best that I don't know distance covered as would only be depressing
Bike - don't own one as yet and haven't done for many years (20+!)
Run - ok I have done a bit of that with 20+ marathons / ultras but nothing fast and have to get through the other two disciplines to reach this part
Target - signed up for the Enduroman single IM next June, so if anyone fancies a place email me next spring as I may well have one going spare!
QB.there are going to be a few of us there in june ranging from doing the single to the deca........we are on a thread around here sometimes...........
Bootsie.if you want to do one enough and are willing to put in the time then it is a possibility
yup it is very hard on the other half in a relationship though i think.. just need to get a bit of a buy in from him cause he'll be the one left to do the house work etc when i'm off training!!! i've really enjoyed my super sprint training so far.. up to 1500m in OW.. 2km in pool swimming.. only up to about 25km on the bike at the moment.. and have run a couple of marathons very slowly.. what are the cut offs
Comments
I've not been around here for too long either, but I take every thing candy says with a bag of salt......

You'll be fine. You'll be eating all the way through the bike (well, not non-stop, but you know what I mean). 7.5 hours will fly by...
And having got the medical emergency out of the way at London, what could possibly go wrong at IMUK?
*leaves thread*
I've been looking forward to adding my bit to this thread. It was this thread that persuaded me to do Outlaw
1 year before Outlaw
swim: Just started to swim again after 20yrs
bike: Just bought a hybrid and had managed about 15 miles at an average 10/11 mph
run: Had not run for two yrs due to injuries. Done one marathon in 5 hrs 10 minutes
tri experience: none
Well done PTL!!!
Well, it's a year to go to IM Regensburg, so..

You should be doing at least a double by now ....
Right, as from today
Swim- Swam 1800 meters in 45mins last week, first swim in about 4 months. never swam for more than 1hr.
Bike- Dont own a road bike, have MTB used twice in last 12 months. 1, 1.5hr and 1, 2hr ride.
Run- I've run 2 races. Kilomathon and Statford Marathon.
Tri- None.
Target- I wanna be an Outlaw!
What to do it?
I just bloody did!

Very useful thread, thanks!
