FB - thank for surface conditions report. As I only have road shoes they will have to do again like last year. Just hope the weather is dry and not too windy and then the mud will not be as bad. It was very grim last year.
Thanks for the course profile FB. You are right that trail shoes would be advisable, but as I don't have a worn in pair I'm working on the basis that it's too late now to change.
I will once again put getting some trail shoes on my future to get list, along with a bike for IM training
e-mail the organisers and ask them but I don't think they operate a deferral system and the deadline has passed for number transfer I believe, but again a quick e-mail would answer the questions. or try phoning them on 01323 415442
Thanks Tracey....Buddha will let my place go I think.....bump for anyone needing a number (preferably someone who is going to finish faster than my pb 4.17 )
Hi guys, this will be my 21st Beachy Head/Seven Sisters Marathon, so I must like the event! However the enjoyment factor does depend on the weather, both underfoot and in terms of the views.
IMHO the South Downs Marathon is the best, but this close behind.
"Is anyone available for mud report this weekend?"
didn't get up there at the w/e so no report from me but the warm weather at the mo will dry the main tracks out but won't affect the forest trails that much I suspect. and it all depends on what happens now over the next 2 weeks with rain.
and I don't think I'll get a chance next w/e to take a look as have other commitments
ok now its getting close best start to think about post race hydration.
I havn't read back pages and pages so appoligies if this has been spoken about already.
But is there a reasonable pub near to the start finish that everyone is going to, it would be good to catch up with a few people after the run/walk/stagger.
TG - no I didn't - completely forgot it was on yesterday! and my time for this year?? a finish....very undertrained!
there's 2 pubs in silly walk distance of the finish - the Ship as Debbo says or closer still is the Pilot - about 400m from the finish line....walk down the road, 1st left and it's ahead of you. as good a place as any for the post-run rehydration I reckon
for evening time - I suggest The Marine - the same as last year. it's in walking distance of the Travel Lodge so no faffing around with cars for those staying there (or other seafront hotels). how do people feel about that??
Just popping in to say I'll be along for this again pending physio report tonight. hoping the weather will be better than last years horizontal rain run!
Haven't run since last weekend as still 'recovering' but hoping to get out tomorrow to see how legs are. I think my right knee is a bit suspect after the Atlantic Challenge but hoping a bit of ice and brufen will sort it. Fingers crossed indeed!
BBH - hopefully see you there tooo! Hotel booked so I might just come down and support if I can't run anyway.
A little trail report from the South Downs near Jevington. I didn’t run on the course but did cross it. It was a lovely sunny and breezy day, perfect for drying out the trails if it continues. Anyway the chalky trails are fine, the tops are pretty dry apart from a few puddles, but the mud and grassy areas are still pretty damp and muddy in places. I didn’t go in the woods but like FB said they must be pretty muddy and will take some time to dry out. I ran in cushioned trail shoes but road shoes would have been fine where I was today, but for the woods and the steep descents on the course more grip would be better at the moment.
Good luck with the knee Birdypie. I am crook but in a different kind of way. I've just got over a 3-week virus (flu-type symptoms), so the legs are willing, but the body is knackered! F knows how I'm going to get on, on the day.
Nicko - we are marshalling - can't make the meeting but think we are doing the same as last year so down off Windover hill before the first checkpoint, and then the top of the last descent to the finish - should be fun
It was invigorating I went home and had a bath to warm through before we did our second stint - fingers crossed here for better weather too - I would've DNS last year if I had been entered, so full of admiration for those who ran it

Don't know why but i'm looking forward to it - will try and do a 20 miler this weekend to reassure myself - but will be there whatever!!!
Does anyone know what the course record, for an overweight irishman with bad news and niggling plantar, is?

Of out in a moment for a long run of 10-12 miles.

B - Thank you for marshalling Hoping we get nice weather as it must have been horrible marshalling last year.
