I knew there was a reason I didn't need anymore friends in my life....
Seriously though you're right. I've got some local hill repeats planned soon to get me into the way of conquering them I'm hoping Bala will feel easier this time round.....
I do admit 34/29 is a stupid set up, But when I was having the bike built last year, Graham took one look at me and suggested I need all the help I can get.... a 27 would be fine on the back, But I suppose knowing I have the 29 takes loads of the stress away
I'm riding off 34 /25 in lowest gear. Bike shop guy asked if I wanted a different cassette, but I stuck with it. No point changing now!
I've got a 12-27 on the back of the bling bike, LBS weren't sure the rear mech would take the SRAM 11-28 I wanted. If you can't justify £25-30 now it's worth bunging a 12-27 on when it needs to be replaced, every little helps as they say . Some guys on bikeradar are running MTB 11-32's on compact roadbikes for some monster climbs/general crapness, but needs the 'long' rear mech to soak up all the extra chain length. Next upgrade for me
Hmm, I might have another look then. As you say, every little helps. I need to practice on the hills regardless, so i'll see how I go, but if I get stronger on the hills, then get a more favourable cassette, it might be worth it. I shall ponder this in consultation with my LBS....
Edit: 11-25 on the back, not sure what biggest ring is; need to count that.
Pingu, we're talking about number of teeth on the front chainrings, and rear cassette, and thus the resulting gear ratios you get from the different combinations.
going backwards...hurt my back last tuesday and not trained since...been going so well too....got worse ifter some stretching friday..but eased a bit today...going to the chiro later...hoping two more days and i can get back into it!!
Not a good start Andy, but at least got a few weeks to get over it or find Brian the Snail's dealer to get something to take your mind off it (and the planet )
Andy thats the one thanks, why a hotel I stayed at a very nice B&B one year , but enjoyed the camping with the pirate massive so much more the next year
honest i never ever sleep properly in a tent and i'm determined my two big races this year end in success...i live close to IMUK so that one wont be a problem but i fancy a nice meal and a good sleep before bala so i can have a good day...i really would enjoy the party...but probably too much

Andy take it easy plenty of time to get sorted and ease back into training

Morning.
Just joined up and am doing Bala.
Unfortunately I am biologically related to RidgebackMax and as such have finally sucumbed to peer pressure.
Should be fun.
SnailMK- you have my deepest sympathies - noone should have a cross like that to bear!
I'm doing the Evans Ride It 60 miler from MK this sunday if you're about?
Hi Slimshady
Hope you are keeping well.
I am doing the MK half this weekend, but I do need to getthe bike mileage up.
Might try to get the Saturday morning rides from Stony going again, but ideally would like to start earlier.
If you are riding anytime just let me know via these Forums and we can meet up sometime.
Dave
