Best of luck to all competing , I did it this year and as I live in Leyland I got to go round the bike course atleast 20 times training but for me the KILLER HILLER was the hill at the end of the point to point on the run , just before you start the loops !!
It smashed my legs !
I think Parbold hill may be an option as just befor the motorway junction you turn left towards Eccleston and re-join the normal course just as it turns towards park hall
I have decided to spend the day supporting as it looked great fun this year
Afternoon, we need to make sure we keep this furum on the frist page on here, we dont want to be slip back to the depths of the forums as we are the best!.
Keep up the training talk, im sure its not yet for Bolton, but we may still take part in other events.
Me and a mate knocked out just over 70 miles on the bike last weekend, dont know why but I suppose the sun was shining and the lanes looked good!
Got a half marathon lined up in 3 weeks time, first race in my down session. Its strange training shorter distance again,
Have not done any swim traning for about a month now, I suppose I need to get myself back into that soon, will be doing some timed sessions to guage myself for improvement.
Evening all, I've got the Snowdonia Marathon coming up at the end of October so I am training for that.
Still doing plenty of cycling and I am going to keep it up over the winter.
I have not done any swimming since IM. I have booked myself a series of swim clinics in October, so instead of further embedding poor technique I will wait until I have re trained my body to hopefully correct where I am going wrong.
As a "just in case", I'd reserved a family room at the Premier Inn at the Reebok at an extortionate £150 per night (double what we paid this year).
I've now cancelled that and have 3 nights in a family room at River Street Travelodge for £95 all in - £135 including breakfast for all 4 of us for 3 days
And most importantly, it's got a bar!! There's an incentive to finish early
I'm doing my frisk middle distance this weekend at Henley-on-Thames.
taper madness setting in I think ! Posted on Henley thread too.
Run - only 30 minutes today . That’s it training & taper complete. Next stop river Thames. So far to avoid going too mad I've :- Cleaned & applied lube to bike. Had go faster haircut. Sterilised all water bottles eeen though they will be thrown mould not good Completed race plan sheets Planned & arranged with my friend who's also racing the journey, registration, briefing and racking times for Saturday Booked evening meal for night before race Checked hotel confirmation Cleaned fish tank, lost wedding ring in gravel. Found wedding ring & bought some bright new fish additions. Washed race kit. Laid kit out on spare bed for all weathers - forecast keeps changing. Bought extra gels, flapjack & maltloaf. Tried not to eat too much. Extra protein. Had last massage. Can feel a niggle in my hamstring - or is it just in my head ?? Holding off taper madness so far.... Forgoten anything important ? oh the madness of the taper!
Good luck Red stripe, the weather should be just right for it, at least the water will be warmer ths year.
All niggles are in the head, just remember you have done this before so enjoy it and count em off in yer head as you overtake them on the bike and run.
They are it was announced at the awards ceremony. It will take time to organise new road closers and negotiating with local council and the police. I'm sure it will be announced as soon as it is finalised.
Oh, fair enough. I guess all they have changed on the site is the dates! I shall still focus on hills, worked out a good route near me that climbs plenty.

Can't believe I'm doing it again but it will definately be my last one. Any news on the proposed changes to the bike course?

Still baking in nearly 30 degree heat in London!!

let us know who you get on
you boys and girls need to buy an entry to a proper european Ironman....
like ironman France....
they are still taking entries
they actually have people supporting on the bike course. 2500 competitors, (not like that rubbish 1400 entries for IMUK)
Its the perfect warmup for IMUK - 4 weeks out - after all the most specific training you can do for an ironman is another ironman
also an ironman is not an ironman without having to pack your bike into a bike bag and hoping it comes out in one piece
note - i am just bitter about forgetting to enter and mising out...... (IMUK selling out in 50 hrs??? its in bolton fgs - who wants to go there?)
I'm doing Wimbleball ad my warm up. Cycling up lots of hills at the moment!
I'm doing Ironman Lanzarote as a warm up to Bolton...I reckon Ironman France in the middle might be a step to far...
I can't afford to do two at £400 a chuck
I ran Yorkshireman marathon today and managed to shave off 15 minutes from my PB for this race.
Hope it went well RS
Is this the same bike route as normal? Link to map
Hi Tycholien it is.
I guess they aren't changing it then. Good to know, lots of hills in my future!
They are it was announced at the awards ceremony. It will take time to organise new road closers and negotiating with local council and the police. I'm sure it will be announced as soon as it is finalised.

Yes hills hills and more hills should do it.
When you think about it we could end up with more hills than last year. Twice up Sheep House and twice over Upholand
Any idea when they will publish the 2014 route ?
Sorry no idea.
BTW How did the middle distance go?
