I have just signed up for Ironman Austria-number 1690 i believe, so any other pirates that are thinking of entering, don't think too long!
I second what has been said about the supporters-you guys were awesome and definitely helped me towards smashing my PB. Hopefully see a lot of you out in Austria 2007!
Hello all!! Another big well done to everyone for completing - you are all hero's in that heat!! It was fab, I am still buzzing, so heaven knows how you are all feeling.
(((IW)))) I think LJS is being very harsh, what you need right now is support, not nagging!!! Come on girl, pull yourself together and bloody show him you can do another, stuff him!! Don't let it beat you!
I was going for a run but Candy talked me out of it last night. Off for a swim at lunchtime and I've a sprint tri on saturday.Got to take my bike out of the box tonight.
Dog walking and eating. Might do 30 mins on the MTB this evening if it cools off, no hills.
I just recalled a conversation I had with JD on the run. He stopped running to water the bushes, I said i would walk for a bit untill he caught me up again. About 3 minutes later JD appeared at my left shoulder. " Where's Foggy?" " I am Foggy" " You are wearing a cap!" " I have been since the start of the run" " Oh yes. has it always been orange?" " Yes" " Oh f**k, shall I shut up and try running" "Good idea"
JD - if it's any consolation I'm not feeling well either, came down with a coldy-type infection on Monday, sore throat, nose has been running like a train ever since and I can't breathe. Joy!
IW - hope you're back to full strength soon. i've just eaten a huge tuna pasta salad and am feeling in better shape now.
Foggy - lol, i'd totally forgotten that. i was looking around for ages wondering where you'd got to till i decided to trot up to the pirate in front of me and ask "where's foggy".
cman - if it wasn't for the tdf prologue starting in london the day before IMA i'd have signed up already. still i think holding off and doing Florida is a better idea for me as i'll be able to fit in more training and target a time.
regarding recovery, i thought it is good plan to do nothing for two weeks. is that right?
anyone got a good recovery strategy or is it really a case of everyone doing their own thing.
can't cycle as my bike is fcked. chain/sprockets were in a bad way, but all the lube being washed off the bike in the rain really screwed it up. got to wait for a new cassette from wiggle now.
Afternoon all - hope everyone got back safe and sound. Will post a report soon.
I cycled into work this morning and plan for a 1 hour sping with the sherpa this evening. Got the Salford Oly tri this weekend, in which I'll used the race proven tactic of hammering the bike and limping round the run. Apparently water temp is currently 22degC and rising - I'm getting deja vue.
I'm thinking of no IM for me next year, just a couple of fun halfs, and may have a crack at l'etape.
Well i am tapering again for IM Canada in 4 weeks time :-) Have been eating like a man possessed the last few days though. All the unhealthy stuff i can get my hands on!!
Am going to go to the TriTalk TT tonight i think and see if my legs feel good enough to dash round the park-if not i will just spectate.
In terms of rest JD, i have heard that you need at least 3 weeks of nothing and then about 3 weeks of gentle stuff before you can start back into your winter build phase. I usually just play it by ear however. I am going to have this week off, next week as gentle, the third week as a half ironman distance sort of training week (i.e doing a 13 mile run, 56 mile bike etc), and then the fourth week tapering down to IM canada. After Canada, i am having two weeks total rest as i will be sightseeing and maybe snowboarding if whistler is year round. Then its a possible marathon end of october. Will start building again November i would say, so about 2 months after my last IM. Hope that kinda helps.
JD - you'll feel top notch for 2 weeks. So much so that you'll think "wow, I didn't really need to recover" You'll then proceed to test whether or not you're actually fitter because of the IM and in fact you're actually peaking now. Then after 3 weeks your body crashes. Or maybe not - everyone's different.

I've also jsut noticed that someone applied fake tan to one of my ankles, either that or there is some minor bruising coming out slowly.
not feeling so well either - tempted to go home and drink beer.
Has someone started the IMA training thread yet?

wheee....it's raining!
ran to work this morning, only 6 miles quite easy.. felt bloomin great..
its so tempting to sign up for another one now... must resist..

THEN we can work on having the pirate party following some of the TDF - with the pirate coach innovation it will be easy.
Might go for a little cycle later and see how my itb holds up.

But as there looks to be about 4 different main IM destinations for 2007 can someone just start the IM 2007 Training Thread.
Or does everyone want Q & A, chat, training etc in lots of different threads?
...end of thought
