not sure what is going on with the smileys. have noticed that in a few people's posts.

kids seem ok - J was crying on the phone this morning as he wanted to see me.  i think 2 full days and 2 nights away from one parent is about all they can handle.  by the third day they are unsettled. (they are fine when with me - never ask to see their father!! but when they are with T, i can tell that by the 3rd day both of them are getting a bit anxious).  and J of course just asks 'why can't i see you today mummy?' and actually - there is no reason.  i am around. i could see him. but it is t's day. and that is hard.

need to do some prep for my interview tomorrow.  could have done with getting my hair cut and also with colouring it.  there are lots of greys poking thru at the front now.  but only found out at 7pm on fri that i was being interviewed on monday lunchtime, so not much time to sort anything really!! didn't even bother tbh on the grounds that any stylist who had appointments free at short notice on a sat probably wasn't much good!!

You really are mad Lotte, but I am just as bad, so can't talk really!! image

Busy busy day as usual, but just got my run done before tea and before Sophie needed her bath and feed, all a bit rushed but all in bed now. Phew!! And I'm supping a glass of red image!

Managed a 'speedy-ish' run. 8 miles with 5 at 7:05 pace. Pretty pleased with that, would like to get under 7's, but it is hilly round here, so never get the flat miles even though the garmin often said I was running at 6:30 pace. Bit of a dodgey tum though, I can never run that soon after lunch, nevermind though hey!

Huge pile of ironing needs doing, so will have to tackle that shortly, but just enjoying a wee rest for now!! Might make a pudding too, as really fancy something sweet with custard!! image

You'll be back out there very soon JT.

Oh and proud Mummy and Daddy moments. Joshie is now cycling without stabilisers image. Hurrah, and just before his 4th birthday. He is very pleased with himself. Harry is pretty close, but hasn't quite got the balance, think he was quite tired this afternoon too.

Really looking forward to some family cycling next summer then, with madam in seat on the back image.

  • Options

well done joshie. that is amazing!!!

JT - i think i have enough toys for now, thanks.

Good running, CM, CC, Caro, MM and Lotte and hope yours went OK PP. If you do run tomorrow Lotte, please make sure it's a recovery run (ie. now more than 5 miles and VERY slow).

Good luck with your interview tomorrow CM. I think a job in Bristol would be a good move for you as long as the job is OK and you can work around the hours.

Hope hubbie is a bit more clued-up now on what life is like for you at the moment CC and good decision on the West Highland Way race. BTW, before you put your foot in it, Milngavie is pronounced "Mull guy" (just in case you didn't know!).

Sorry to hear about Ted waking JT. Bad dreams or playing up?

Sorry Lotte but I won't be joining you at Abingdon. My body is telling me it doesn't want to do a marathon at the moment and I certainly haven't done the necessary training. It would have been great to meet you though - it's a bit far to drive to watch the race as well. Don't suppose you'll be in or near London while you're down will you?

Oh, and I was going to say that we were treated to an amusing impression of Thomas The Tank Engine by LB this afternoon in the park. I'm beginning to believe that he really thinks he IS Thomas. Then he had been rolling sideways down a grassy hill and announced that he was now going to roll down the hill "at a different angle". Fabulous grasp of geometry for a two year old!
  • Options

GGGRRRRRRRR- I was hoping to come on here and do some spectacular bragging about my race but you blimmin girls have gone quicker on your slow runs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MM- It's lovely to see those first wobbles evaporate and the sight of fever pace pedelling, my eldest didn't ride without stabilisers until he was about 5 but Tom's just mastered it at 3yrs too (benefit from using his balance bike I think.)

Haircuts- CM you just need to be firm, I called yesterday and said I wanted my annual cut and even though they were booked up I whined and pleaded (like a toddler) and the owner  moved a client to a junior stylist so she could do mine!

Anyway- weather was fab today, scenary beautiful although a little boring by the end, kept fairly steady pace to wipe 5 mins off my PB and finished in 1hr 50m 32s which was 84th lady out of 490 and 460th of 1206 finishers.  I was chuffed....  <img />

  • Options

Camlo - great running and a brilliant finishing position, I could never even dream of being placed so far up the field.  There are some super speedy mums on here though, comparing your pace to those gazelles is a bit gutting isn't it?

Too much to remember, especially as we are now at the top of a new page and I can't look back.

CC - glad you and your husband have had a chat about things, I know how hard it is moving somewhere completely new and having him away so much must be really difficult.  I have you to thank for my vastly improved social life here - hope your local running clubs are proving to be as friendly as your old one (and my new one!).

I'm making it out with the group twice a week now and also took Max out in the BJ this morning for the first time in weeks - I was hoping the weather had cooled off a bit but it was still roasting.  I have a lovely route though and stop at about 3 miles to sit and look at the sea (I'm not as bold as CC and don't strip off and jump in - despite the water probably being significantly warmer!).

CM - best of luck for your interview tomorrow, and hope you can sort out a better arrangement with your husband for sharing time with the kids, although it does sound as though you get a lot done with your time when they are with him, I can imagine such a long spell without them is awful.

Lotte - glad so many of your family made it to Aberdeen for the funeral - just another indication of what a great lady she must have been for so many of you to have made such long journeys to say goodbye.

PP - good to see you again.  So now you have finished your degree (how long until you get your results?), what next?

    Have a good week all.

Well done Camlo, a new PB woo hoo. That's the great thing about running though - its about personal targets.

RB - sorry I won't be seeing your heels as you run off into the distance at Abo. It would have been nice to meet you. Not sure if we will be down to London. Thinking about a trip to legoland by train from Oxford but not sure if the bank balance can take that.

MM - welll done Joshie!  Can he brake - I usually find the actual riding is only part of it -the braking takes a bit to master! My lot have all been 5 when they started riding without stabilisers but there are so manny hills here that it is nerve wracking enough then!  Yes you are equally mad, but then to normal folk all of us on here are mad just because we run!!

TT - nice you are making it to club twice a week.

Well 3 recovery miles for me this morning. VERY slow as prescribed by RB. But now I feel like I have so much time on my hands. That false sense of security means it will probably end up being a hectic morning and kids will miss the bus or something, right better get on with it. I'm working today too.

  • Options

Well done CM image  A PB is a PB, and 5 mins is amazing!

  • Options

I agree.....5 mins off your PB is fab, Camlo!

Some awesome running from lots of you others too. Like JT, I can't wait to get out there again either!

Lotte- glad your trip went ok. Lovely that s many people made it up there.

CM - good luck for the interview today!

Right, better get a move on and get K's breakfast before nursery and then off to work - 4 more days to go - yay!

  • Options

Well done Camlo, 5 mins off your pb is fantastic!  Don't worry, even on a good day I would be way behind these ladies (and R_B)!

I've done the stupidest thing which I only realised last night - I drove off last Mon after going to the docs, leaving the pram in the parking space on the road image.  I haven't needed it all week and had vaguely wondered where it was but just assumed it was in the boot or in the house.  I'm so gutted, a friend lent me it as well.  I'm off up there now to ask around but I'm not holding out any hope.  What would you do if you saw a pram left next to the road, in a busy-ish area near shops etc?  Other than swipe it...  It's the single pram which goes with the car seat and just means when S is at childminder today I have no pram for N.

Ho hum.  Can't stop cursing myself!

On a positive note it's my birthday tomorrow and I've got the biggest chocolate cake ever from Tesco - I couldn't see just how big it was online!  There goes the diet this week...

Oh and a question on bf again: if I want to express a feed so I can get out in the evening, when and how should I do it?  Someone said after the morning feed but I rarely have time as we're usually off out to playgroup etc.  And will I have to express for a few days before I am able to get enough for one feed?  I don't even know how much that is..!

  • Options

Fab Camlo. Well done, you must be so pleased image...

Both are pretty good with the brakes to be honest. J is so cautious as it is, I'm not too worried about him, its Harry who goes a bit mental and might not brake in time. Rather hilly round here, but we just stick with the 'round the block' route in the week which is pretty safe with just one estate road crossing. Or we go along the river in town on the cycle path, or round the park where hubbie took them yesterday. Wee way off us cycling with them, I just chase after them at the moment!

JG. I used to leak loads from the boob I wasn't feeding from and hence I have so much milk in the freezer. I used to collect in one of those cup things and stick in a freezer bag. I don't leak much at all now, but I do get more milk for the freezer when I express the morning feed and go for a run. Generally express about 12oz at 6am and she drinks 7-8 around 7-7.30am, so we freeze the rest. I'm guessing 6oz would be plenty for him at his age. S has about 4-5oz now of expressed milk at 10pm, but is cutting down a bit now.

Peace and quiet as S sleeping. Have cleaned the downstairs and hung nappies on the line, so feeling sorted. Then we're off to meet post-natal girls for lunch and then baby massage course. Not the best time at 1.15pm for a baby massage course as usually S sleep time, but letting her sleep more now and hoping she'll cope OK.

Just won McClaren XT buggy off ebay for £50 so hoping thats OK. Hubbie going to pick it up as near his work. S growing out of the pram now, but thanks CM has been very useful and I think we shall still use it for a little while until she really won't fit in it. Do you want it back or shall I donate to someone else?

Oh and JG. Boo to leaving the pram. These things happen though, too many things to be sorting out at once and thinking about at once...
  • Options
JG - fingers crossed someone took the pram in to the doctors.  It's what I would have done.  Really hope you find it, sending positive vibes across.

Karen, I'm doing the Stroud half on the 24th October. My PB is 1h56 so I'm hoping to match if not better it but we'll see.

I've just sent a letter off to my local secondary school asking if I can go in and observe for a couple of days. I've always fancied primary education but figured I'd give secondary a bash before completely ruling it out. So to answer your question TT, an Open University PGCE may be next for me.

Lots of brilliant running going on at the minute. I have no idea how some of you clock up 40+ miles. I'm pleased with myself if I do 20+.

Abi went to her first swimming lesson yesterday and I was so proud of her. They taught the babies how to hang on the side of the pool. The teacher said she didn't expect any of them to be able to hang on by themselves but Abi was clinging on completely unaided and laughing away. She's a big baby though so I guess she's quite strong too.

Happy birthday for tomorrow JG and I hope you manage to find the pram again.

  • Options
Sorry about your pram JG, hope someone handed it in to the doctors.
And I can normally express about 5oz after her first morning feed. I then express again at 9.30pm ish (~ another 5oz) and she has a giant bottle at the dream feed. Reckon you could get enough for an evening feed from one or two expressing sessions.

Maggie just had her second swimming lesson this morning PP. She was really shivering by the end though, might have been because she was tired as no nap beforehand (all this night time sleeping seems to keep her up longer in the mornings) and she is still quite ickle. We did some dunking too! She didn't seem to mind either, we had to blow on their faces just before to make them close their eyes. Can't wait for her to start enjoying it more though, she just stares around, think it is a lot to take in.

Let me know how the ebay buggy is MM. I really want a lightweight buggy for Maggie for travelling etc but can't justify a big purchase as the icandy was so expensive and I have my ebay babyjogger too now. Also spent a fortune if john lewis at the weekend on stairgates and a highchair!
Well done to the twins for the cycling too image

Amazing running going on again! Lotte, MM and Camlo, great PB! (and we're not all gazelles, don't think I could run 10metres at 7min mile pace!).
Glad the trip went ok too lotte.

Right, better go, I have the gym creche booked this afternoon. Very nervous about how Maggie will behave....
  • Options
Well done Camlo - lovely to get a new pb! I also look on in awe at MM and Lottes training run speeds!
I did a 2m and a 4m this weekend - def need to do some more core stability as my lower back really complains around my time of the month so I missed most of last week because of it.

Had a rough couple of days, my mums husband (should call him step father I suppose but I don't know him well enough!) called yesterday to say mum had been admitted to hospital vomiting blood. They were going to do an endoscopy today but she did a runner. I am assuming that she is scared of being told that she has liver damage from drinking too much so when I spoke to her this morning I ended up getting cross and shouted at her which won't help at all (I had been up with the kids though in the night and didn't have my head on straight). Anyway, having spoken to a couple of help line people I've just got to choke down on the fact that no one can do anything to make my mum get help apart from herself so she may have to get really ill etc before any progress is made. Am very sad because I'd been relying on the fact that if she did get ill then that might make her think about what she is doing to herself. Crap isn't it?
  • Options

((())) Kinsey - that's really rough.  You feel bad about shouting at her but it is possible that some tough words might make her stop and think about what she is doing.

PP and Sonya, could your  little ones sit unaided before they would accept them for lessons?  Your comments reminded me to go online to register Max (I couldn't do it before he was 6 months old) and I had to answer some questions about the age he achieved certain milestones (sit unaided, crawl, walk etc) and he can't do any of those yet, then the web page took me out of the registration process saying I couldn't register him yet.  Grrrr, really want to get him started on lessons asap.

Oh **** and ******! just spent ages typing a post and C pressed something and I lost the lot.

Went something along the lines of :-

Kinsey- that is really hard, it could be a torn oesophagus known as Mallory-Weiss syndrome, I had that when I was pregnant with C due to repeated vomiting, it's common in bulimics and alcoholics.

Little one I childmind for lost his Mum to alcoholism last year, she was only in her 40's and it was heartbreaking, her family tried everything they could to help but ultimately only she could stop drinking, unfortunately she didn't. Just wanted to shake her and shout "what the hell are you doing woman?" but just not that simple.

Camlo- fab pb, way faster than I can manage.

Just entered the Edinburgh half marathon in May, will be my second ever half marathon, last one was about 5 years ago and I was slim and i did it in 2hrs 10mins. The plan is I will be slim by this one and hopefully faster. Running between 27 &37 miles a week just now as opposed to the 19 miles a week I used to run and getting faster even though I'm not doing any speedwork. Did my 5km run in 32min 39 sec this morning, a speed I have only bettered once since having C. So roll on May and a slimmer, faster me.

Right better go pack swimming bag before kids come in from school.

    TT ;0)

Camio - 1 hr 50 is a great time, and there are lots of us on here (me for one) who would be more than happy with that time. Well done you!

JG - oops, ah it's just one of those things so don't beat yourself up about it. I'm still finding my brain is a bit foggy sometimes, am hoping it's just the remnants of pregnancy brain and not early onset Alzheimers ...

MM - well done to Joshie on the bike riding, no stabilisers before 4 is pretty good going. Lily is 7 and only learned this summer, although to be fair she hasn't actually practised much before the summer as the novelty of the new bike she got for Xmas 2 years ago wore off by Boxing day and she'd hardly been on it since.

MM - We also had a lot of sheets on the line when we started trying to get Issie dry through the night and we're still lifting Isabelle once a night but she's been dry every morning for about 4 days now. I was a bit apprehensive putting her to bed in knickers at first as she'd never had a dry nappy in the morning but I wonder if somehow subconsciously she now knows she doesn't have the safety net of a nappy so she's more aware in the night of if she needs to go. We did have a week of washing sheets every day though when we started and maybe I'm just reading too much into it but am just happy that all is going well so far and I now only have to buy one lot of nappies for Anna - hurray!

Thanks for the running advice. I did end up going out yesterday but my head wasn't in the right place and tbh I pretty much knew there was no way I was going to do the full distance before I went out. So I only did 8.2 miles - also was getting tummy cramps from 6 miles in and was desperate for the loo so had to go home then anyway so decided to call it a day then. CM - think you're onto something with the one pace comment, I do seem to run everything at my "comfortably fast" pace, where my heart and lungs feel fine but my legs are ticking over at a reasonable pace (for me). So at the moment that's normally between 8:30 and 8:45 (my 8 yesterday averaged 8:30). Don't think I'm overdoing it otherwise as have already had to drop one of my midweek runs as just can't get on with treadmill running so have swapped that day to cross-training. So right now running 4 times week, one day cross train, one day pilates and one day complete rest.

Have now decided that I'm not going to keep to the schedule and run over distance before the race - I'll get a pb anyway as this is my first hm and before I started training would have been happy to finish with the 1:54 I did in training the other week, so will keep up with the mid week speed work and LSR of 10 to 12 miles before tapering and hope for the best. Fingers crossed ...

Got the pram back! imageimageimage  The manager of the pub over the road took it in when she saw it getting wet in the rain and has kept it ever since.  Such a relief... I'm going to send her a big bunch of flowers to thank her!

(((Kinsey))) That is so tough for you, it's so hard watching loved ones in trouble when you can't do anything to help.

Just trying to get the little fella to sleep now.  The trouble with expressing is he feeds so frequently sometimes I'd effectively be taking his next feed, is that how it works?  Would my supply catch up or something and would that mean I'd have to express every day?  Sorry for all the questions!

  • Options

Oh phew JG. What a relief for you. If you're going to feed as well I suggest you feed him first off one side, then express 2-3oz off the other and then feed him the rest of that side if he wants it. That way what he gets from the second boob is the thicker hind milk.

Big hugs to Kinsey. We have all effectively lost our step Dad to various addictions. He has decided to alienate himself from us, and tbh after what he's done to my Mum I'm not sure I ever want to see him again let alone let him near my kids. I really feel for you, its all so hard.

We have tried the pants on instead of nappy tactic when he's been dry for a week or more but he then always seems to wet the bed. At the moment he is really bad and I don't understand why when he's been so good. Very reluctant to just go for it at the moment. I would rather wait until we seen other signs like him getting himself out of bed and going at 1am, that or dry nappies for a stretch again.

Just been to baby massage before collecting the boys, she loved it but is a bit grumpy this afternoon as it was badly timed being during her lunchtime sleep.

Hadn't thought about taking madam to swimming lessons. Are you all going to local leisure centres for those? Couldn't go with the twins when they were little as always had to be a weekend so could have hubby too. Waterbabie is too expensive so might see what they do at the leisure centre.

    Miserable afternoon here image.

  • Options

Yes changing pace is key to getting faster. My week looks this:

Monday easy 5 miles 8:00-8.30 pace

Tues, club speed session. Fast reps, drills, usually 10k pace so currently 6:30s, but would be 6-6.10s

Weds steady/easy run 6-8 miles. Currently with buggy 8:30ish

Thurs, threshold pace run 4-5 miles at 10k or half pace or marathon pace if I was aiming for one.

    Fri REST

    Sat hilly run, 7.00-8 pace

    Sunday long run 7.30-8.15 pace

    All very varied.

MM we do ' London swim school' who operate out of leisure centres in most boroughs,  - a full term of lessons costs between £45 and £50 depending on the length of the term.  I did a term of aquababes when M was tiny and was totally unimpressed, and that was £11 a session.  Her teacher is lovely, she is very confident in the water, throws herself in off the side, happily goes under water, kicks with a noodle now.  Just have to get her to stop pooing in the pool (she did it again today!)

Thanks for the hugs - it does help, especially as all my friends and family seem to be on holiday this week so I can only discuss it with my hubby.
Mum has almost totally buried her head in the sand, I rang her again earlier to see if she has seen the doctor and she has written him a letter! I also rang the hospital and wasn't able to garner much information but did deduce that her description of the ward was at best wrong and at worst a bag full of lies.

JG - great news about the pram! I always do a double check before I get in the car to make sure I havn't left my bag on the pavement or roof etc!

MM - Martha never really got on with baby massage - think she was too little and colicky when we tried it - Aidan loves a tummy rub though - gets him to sleep every time!
