Great alternative to London. Just entered. I like the look of the last 5 along the front finishing in Madeira Drive. Could be like Hastings Marathon without the hills?
If I get London will probably take it, but think I'll be happy come April either way
I've just entered too would still love london as a first marathin but as my folks live near brighton it is a good alternative- and I guess London will still be there next the year after if I don't get in this year......
Oh well, looks like I'll be doing a marathon next April then! VLM or Brighton - think I'd prefer Brighton as I can sleep at home (and I did FLM this year).
Anyone else going to do what should now be called the "Brighton Triple"? 10k in November, Half in Feb, Mara in April. We should get a special medal for that...

Urgh - I hate races with a long slog along the seafront at the end (begs the question why I've done Brighton 10K & half twice, Hastings and Bognor). It seems never ending!
At least it doesn't have the hills of Hastings. It looks like the first half will be a bit undulating though. Let's hope it's not blowing a gale!
SazzaG - sorry to disappoint you, but that's not the full set ! What about the perfect laast LSR before 18/4 opportunity on 28th March ? Looks as though we have a Brighton quadruple - running capital of the UK, clearly ! Agree with you re the long slog though - bl**dy pier never seems to get any closer in the half, let alone after 20m............
PH - very brave, I wouldn't stand up to that punishment, would start to get injuries. I've just done 2 in a fortnight for the first time (Edinburgh and South Downs - also did FLM) and not sure it was a great idea........FLM and Ed were rubbish for me (too hot), SDM was a brilliant day out though, loved it and will do it again (although hard as hell)
SOMEONE mentioned on the other thred that if you get into london they'll refund your entry fee minus £10. Is this definitely the case? can't see anything like that on the website.
Bit scared to enter, kinda makes it inevitable that I'm doing a marathon next year (1st) whereas at the moment it's all down to the london ballot....
"By entering the first ever Brighton Marathon, due to be held just one week before London, you are guaranteeing yourself a spring marathon in 2010. Now here is further good news - enter Brighton, and if you hear later in the year that you have secured a place in London, we will refund your entry fee, minus an admin & charity charge of £10* (£5 of this will go to our selected charity partners). * Proof of accepted London entry will be required."
so if you do get a VLM place and want to drop out of this, you lose £10 - not a bad insurance policy eh??
alternatively - run both - which is what I will do if I get into VLM
Looking at the web site, the "early bird" places have gone. So, 1000 people signed up first day of registration. Better hurry up with that accommodation as well!!!
I've done the same, entered the London Marathon on the basis that I was VERY unlikely to get selected through the ballot .... then my dad phoned me about the Brighton Marathon this morning! .... Well I'm only 15mins away from Brighton so it makes sense to enter doesn't it .... except now I actually have to take training seruiously/begin as I've paid up for the Brighton one-£55 including the t-shirt!!!! ...as much as I've always to take part in the London Marathon my dad has entered this so we could run together whilst I'll be doing it 'alone' at London ... the rejection letter come October might actually be quite nice!!!
sure does look like they have all gone - that's bloody quick for a new marathon but it just shows that they seem to have their marketing right and I guess many of the initial entries are those looking for insurance against not getting into VLM.....
Good point wilkie. You can defer. oh decisions are to be made in October. To be honest I don't think I am going to defer. in a snobby way I want to be able so say I ran the first Brighton Marathon rather than the 29th London...no direspect obviously. Both equally as challenging. London by the sea as the tag line seems to go

WEL - you'll be doing both the long ones, right ?
I'll be doing the 10k and half.
Isn't there the Heros run too?
could be worth a look - a month between the 1st 2 and then a week to VLM.
very doable.... *cough*
Paris
Brighton
London
Three Forts
Four in four weeks?
do Paris - run to Dieppe - ferry to Newhaven - short run to Brighton - do Brighton - run to London - couple of days rest - do London.......
not me though....LOL!!
No Michelle - simply the first 1000 entering I think ?
FB - me neither..........26.2 plenty enough for now........(and much of the time that's about 24m too far)
Anyone know how quickly the numbers are going?
Got mine this morning, whoop...friends wanted to know
I didn't get asked for an access code Andy.
Perhaps early bird enteries have sold out, maybe?
four in four weeks is fine
think mine will start with Brighton though and continue
a few nice marathons i want to repeat in May you see

.... time to dig out the training guide!
I missed the early bird offer but seem to qualify as a local - I have a BN postcode-but live about 15 miles away.
I also have entered London and am expecting my 4th rejection.
