It's going OK so far Tigger! Made better by MORE flowers from some lovely forumites. Lilac and cream roses with little purple flowers in with them. Beautiful and thank you xxx

Back from the follow up appointment with Mr M. He's going to do a radical neck dissection to remove the main groups of lumph nodes on the right side and centrally above my thyroid site. He's also going to have a proper look round where my thyroid was to see if there's any tissue left there. He gave me a whole list of side effects, but emphasised that they're very rare. The most likely of them is damage to my vocal cords (or possibly chords), as this will be the second time someone's poked around by them. This however is still a very unlikely event.

I'll be in hospital for "4 or 5" days, I'm hoping for op on Wednesday, home Saturday at the latest. He offered my the first Wednesday in March, but I've got an important event on that Saturday so I insisted on the next avaiable date. March 17th it is.

Is it just me that thinks that sounds like it would involve removing your head, having a look inside and stiching it back on?  It seems pretty drastic and what happens if they put it back on the wrong way round?

I'm pleased that the likely side effects are very rare but it still sounds fairly unpleasant.  How are you feeling about it?

I thought it sounded like he was going to slice my neck in half down the middle. i may request a touch of liposuction while I'm there.

I'm OK, just be glad to get it all over with. Not looking forward to hospital food, but it gets better each time I visit.

I smiled at your choice, and am glad you can still make it. The Very Important Date is indeed that, or did you realise you'd have to turn your phone off or risk lots of 'We wish you here' phone calls. (I think you live far enough away to avoid a one day trip though...)

Glad to see you are getting your priorities right kwilter, 7th March is indeed a date you cannot miss!image

I hope the op sounds worse than the reality. I guess it must be good to finally have a date when they will sort it all out once and for all. Maybe rattler will be able to sneak some home cooked fodder in for you? Big hugs xx

We are going to have so much fun on 7th March image

I think it is definitely a case of the name sounding worse than reality but great that they are getting on with it.  Can you post a pic of the flowers?

  • Options

Sheesh Kwilter. Did you give them tips on how to stitch neatly?

Does this mean you're free next Wednesday?  image

  • Options

It does indeed, I saw your name in my diary when I was planning my pre op assessment date.

I've never been able to post photos on here, but I'll put ont on FB soon.

Glad you've got a date fixed (and I don't mean the one with KP) and that it doesn't clash with Salisbury.  I'll never be able to control that lot on my own, I need another responsible adult there .....yeah, right image

Take some of your kwilts along and tell them that you want the stitching as neat as yours.

Me? Responsible?? I think you're confusing me with someone else image

As long as the new scar's an good as the last 2, I'll be happy. Had a nice chat with 2 work colleagues today about how I feel about them (scars not colleagues!) and how I was sure people were talking to my neck not me. One said she couldn't see the scars, and the other was sure men spoke to my cleavage. image

Pleased to hear you've got a date at last and you can fit in some quality socialising first image

Kwilter I'm so glad you can make Salisbury, we're going to have such a blast, so just focus on that, and apologies if after Salisbury you have trouble focusing at allimage

You're bound to be more conscious of any scars than anyone else is, but believe me your work colleagues are right, nobody else is.  Blouse has two parallel scars of about 4ins each running down his cheek after some potentially malignant moles were removed, and he has the same feeling, that people are looking at them when the see him.  Let's face it, I spend a lot of time looking at him, and I can honestly say I wouldn't have particularly noticed them, even when we first got together, if he hadn't said how he felt about them.  He's out tonight, and I can't actually remember if they're on his left or right cheek.

I never noticed Blouse's scar....Sgt W has a big one on his chin (sustained after drinking a pint of whisky cos I didn't call him to sort out our first date) and don't think many people notice that.

I'm apprehensive about gaining a scar on my neck too and I have to go to a big show in Germany 7 weeks after the op where I'll meet a lot of new people but I'm going to invest in some bio oil and wear my hair down for a bit and hope for the best....and maybe buy a few scarves too cos shopping never hurts does it?

You are an inspiration Kwilter! xx

We need to get you a stock of special scarves!

LOL at men talking to cleavage, thats a given!!!image

I've just seen your latest FB pic.  There's no way I'd notice any scars image

Kwilter, you sound very calm and together, which is great but remember you can come and scream ans wibble if you need too.

Glad Salisbury is taking priority and I love the idea of you taking a quilt in to show the quality of stitching you expectimage

What sort of recovery time is expected once you get home?

    Cleavage for the winimage

Kwilts, your cleavage is definitely what 99% of men will notice! xx

Pleased you got a date, Kwilter (I mean for the op, though if you flash that cleavage about enough I'm sure you won't be short of offers image) and yay that you can come to Salisbury - we'll have great fun image

Know what you mean about scars - I've got some pretty big ones, but not many that are visible, unless I happen to be streaking across a football pitch. It sounds trite, but they do become a part of you - sort of like a map of your life.

Really admire your strength and positivity - you are an amazing, inspirational and enviably large breasted lady...

I really don't feel inspirational today. Very close to telling my OM where she could stick her poxy job. And her partner's Porsche..

Had my pre op assessments up at hospital, all went OK, and no worries there. I felt a bit weepy so went to the support centre where a kind woman listened to me wail for 45 minutes. Give that woman a medal someone.

Got to work and was a bit subdued, but feeling OK generally until the OM mentioned a collection they were organising for M at work who's in hospital having had an operation for cancer. I told her I'd contribute the same as everyone donated for my collection 18 months ago...nothing!.

Bit later I was saying about how my new scars were worrying me, and that they might scare the customers away, OM starts telling me about how she saw someone who'd had an amputation running down the local main road. So much better than those people who sit on their backsides and moan about how they can't do anything. Literally that quickly after I'd started speaking.

Mentioned about how I was a bit worried about SSP covering our foods bills when it's a third less than we spend, she tells me her daughter feeds 5 on half what I spend.

So, to sum up, she thinks I'm a grapsing, self pitying, spendthrift. Cheers boss!

Ice cream and pancakes for pudding I think!
