Hope to do this again, last time was in 2007,it was a flat course, 1 small loop and 2 larger loops around Victoria Park, Natasha try here - PR8 2BZ - for area
Be careful if you park on the road opposite the park. The traffic wardens are like vultures, waiting for you. You can only park there for an hour, and they WILL book you for 61 mins.
Even on their bank hol race they were out at 8am hovering.....grrrrrrrrrrrrr
both me and my boyfriend are entered for this. He runs way too fast for me though He's hoping for about a 44min finish and i'm hoping for about 1hr 5min
Entered this last year, thinking about it for this year, I'd say beware a bottleneck start that could test the patience of Job and might jostle that PB out of position. The race itself was pleasant and for all finishers, there was a goody bag that puts some of the more expensive races to shame.
I'm gonna enter this I think, my 1st official race (not that i'll be racing!! LOL).My training scedule for the day fits this quite well, 6.25 miles at a slightly upped pace is as good as 7 miles at slow pace!!
Making a day out of with the wife n kids coming to cheer me on!!
Fantastic conditions in Southport today - no wind - let's hope it is the same for the race - the organisers say entries are coming in fast
Just remeasured the course to allow for a small adjustment at the far end of the park - bin your garmin if you think it is a short course!!
Twisted Blister - run on the grass alongside the path if you are held up at the start of the race - no-one needs to get a slow start, there is plenty of room for everyone
Ive entered this race today, it will be my first 10k and im not too sure what to expect and how i will do. Do you receive details in the post before the event? as im not too sure where it starts.
Kerry - You should get everything in the post. It will give you all the details, such as the start and the time. Don't worry about it, just enjoy it. I'm sure you'll do well.
Started running in 2007 and this was my first ever "race"!!!.... took me almost an hour to get around, but I enjoyed it
Did it last year too, got my time down to 46mins ( a PB) so have good memories. There is a bit of a crush at the start from what i remember, everyone funnelling together, but as someone said there is a bit of extra space at the side on the grass, so long as any spectators are well back. I took that route, probably my fault though, I was chatting with a few RW members at the back and heard a noise and the race had started, lol
Just spoken to the race organisers about receiving race numbers - many were despatched yesterday and they are busy sending out more today - apparently a bit snowed under with race entries so sure to be 500+ (possibly 600+) finishers in the race
I have alerted the race organisers to the problem of some runners getting a slow start - the plan is to tape off a section of grass alongside the path to keep spectators clear so that there is a wide course for everyone over the first 300 metres
Beautiful autumn weather again in Southport today - ideal for running a 10K - this is a very flat course and you will even find the km markers in the right place
As another posted has pointed out - do not park on the restricted section of Rotten Row - the local traffic wardens put the race in their diary and take great pleasure in handing out parking tickets
Is the large car park at the back of the park, just off marine drive still in use. i dont mind paying a couple of quid. Its better than wondering if the traffic wardens have left you anything. The only thing i want to see on my windsreen after the race, is Seagull shit.
Got my number today with some info on parking etc..., but no route map. I thought it would be in the details, I know the park, but how many time do we go around it?
but if it's the same as last year its 1 half loop of the park of about 1.2miles(2km).... then 2 full loops of the park of 2.2miles(3.5km) each (ish) then a run into the finish over the first part of the loop.
Have the numbers started coming through? I don't know why, but I always feel better once my number has arrived. It makes it feel more real and gives me the incentive to train just that little bit better.
Hi Paul Williams 85 - you will really enjoy your first race - there is a good atmosphere with 500/600 runners of all abilities at this event - what time is your target for the 10K ?
Not sure Eric TBH mate, I did my 1st ever 10K distance run last Sunday as part of my HM training and like the thought of combining what I should be running on my plan with a race enviroment!!
I did it in 56mins @ about 9 min/mile pace which I found ok (not dead easy, but could of gone quicker). I reckon i'd be happy under 55 mins and VERY happy if I can get it under 50mins!! I've got to do it again tommorrow so i'm gonna gauge off that I think.
I have a plan in my head of :-
1st mile ran @ 9m/m to warm up.
2nd @ 7.5m/m
3rd @ 8.5m/m
4th @ 7.5m/m
5th @ 8.5 m/m
6th as fast I reckon I can manage.
Very doable I think but we'll see, I did 5 miles the other day in 42mins (again sticking to my schedule m/m wise for my Tempo run)!!
I know 10K is 6.25mile BTW, i'm just used to working in M/M.

I too would like to do this one! been a while since I did some decent running so may kick me into action!
Any feedback about this race?
Natasha
Feedback from last years race is here click me
I did this one last year. The goody bag was very nice with a towel and medal.
Shame you see nothing of the sea though. You just run round the park and surrounding road.
Be careful if you park on the road opposite the park. The traffic wardens are like vultures, waiting for you. You can only park there for an hour, and they WILL book you for 61 mins.
