HI Rick - well done on your 10k, so now you have one PB under your belt you can aim for more! The Norwich half is a good one - a bit testing in places but well supported and a nice medal and t-shirt.
I'm not in a club (long commute makes it impossible to ever get to a club training night). But if you are in Norwich itself there are the Norwich Road Runners and also the CONAC who organise this race. But I don't really know anything about them. Worth getting in touch with more than one and get a feel for what they are like, what sort of running groups and training they offer etc.
How's life Mr Spoons....started your October marathon training yet?...which one are you doing?
I ran the Bungay Black Dog Marathon a few weeks ago - loved it....hard work (far hillier than the Norwich half!). But got a 12 minute PB for my troubles. Still smiling about it!
Lined up the Robin Hood Mara in September for my next big one. But next races are Dereham 10 and the Wymondham mid-summer 10. Nice to get a couple of shorter races in too
I did broadland half and Reedham 10 earlier this year.
I've signed up for Abingdon marathon in October and also Poppyline marathon in 4 weeks.
Haven't done hardly any training yet. I seem to have been plagued by illness, injury and lethargy since xmas. I think a big push is now required to get me round 26.2 miles...
How're things Mr Spoons...did you do the poppyline run?
I've ditched my autumn mara plans....slight injuries recently, although did a nice sub-70 PB at the Dereham 10 in May. Might do the Ipswich half at the end of August....but after that it's Norwich half and VLM next year.
Did the Poppyline marathon and really enjoyed it. A nice long slow jog with lots of nice scenery and snacks along the way!
I had a naff first half of the year with lots of illness and injury. I'm getting back into it now and into marathon training (Abingdon in October). Then Norwich of course will be the big half at the end of the year. I'm also thinking about Great Yarmouth half as a marathon pace training run in August. I might look at Ipswich as a possible alternative.
I also did Dereham 10 in May. Wet wasn't it? I came in after you
Just looked at last years results. I'm currently doing GNR training (well plodding!) with 13 miles in around 2:30 - 2:40 depending on the day so a bit worried I'd be too slow really for the event. Is it suitable for an old slowcoach like me?.
hello people - is anyone looking at doing the mersea 10? abit nervous of doing this race (norwich) again as crashed so much at the end of this last year. hows the training going?
about 8 km from the end i just felt like death and so the last stretch was a really hard slog - wanted to quit so badly. still managed it though, and got 9th place, but the memory of how i felt is horrible. must remember to take gels or something next time.
Am considering this race but am unfamiliar with the area- how hilly is the course ?(does seem to be a new route compared to previous years) I know Norfolk is meant to be flat, but race blurb says some hills.
got the cancer research 10k in october so considering this half to make me keep up the hard training, will keep everyone posted as to how i get on with training but am optimistic, just need to step up the distance, never ran further than 5 and a bit miles
CP - if you're at 5 now and training for a 10km in October, you should be just about ready for a half at the end of November. In fact, I would start training for a half now and think of the 10km as a training run.
Blimey - I've just noticed - anyone thinking about doing a 16 week training plan should have started last week......
yeah i was considering that as an option, the 1:50+ training plan on the norwich HM website starts on september 14th, the distance covered look pretty do-able atm, and like you say chuck the 10k in as a training run
I've entered the Norwich half because my in-laws live near there. It'll be my 2nd ever (might as well be me 1st - GNR was 9 years ago!!) Bit nervous but hoping that training in Sheffield (all those hills!) will help a bit!

Thanks for that, and now for a question that may be difficult to answer but which one in Norwich would be the to join? lol

Mr Spoons - managed 3.33.36 at Bungay (3 seconds quicker would have been perfect!). Definitely chuffed with that!
Hope Poppyline goes well....that's a walking event isn't it? Do they let you run?
Poppyline is primarily a walking event, but has a running 26.2. Only about 100 people. Very low key, laid back event.
Anyone signed up yet? - I've heard entry is now open...
Yeah but Suffolk is awake

A hard slog and came in in 9th place. Sounds like it went well! My advice - sign up for another year and take a couple of gels along the way...

It does now.... ask me again if i do enter, then finish haha....
