Went out for a run nthis morning as I wanted to see how my knee felt whist running. I did 8 miles without any proble...just a niggle so feel much happier.
Morning, I'm only planning on doing 6 miles today - give my leg a little try to see how my IT Band goes. Have been doing my stretches but today will be the proof.
Trying Hard - I think thats what I'm worried about - just how many hours will I be in pain for? Feeling your fear but we will get round and then will be able to rest it afterwards. Lots of positive thoughts going your way.
EP - you mentioned cortisone injections. When is the latest you can have these? I'm not sure whether its worth investigating for me as if its going to help. Will call my local walk-in centre to see if they do it otherwise wait till the GPs open on Monday to try to get an appointment - thats if its not too late.
Good luck with everyones last LSRs and whatever distance you fancy doing.
I am feeling a lot more positive this morning. I took some ibuprofen and went out for a run. I thought I might only last a few minutes (like Thursday) but knew within seconds that I was fine, and did the planned route - 5.75 miles. I went very slowly and it was comfortable and I felt no pain. I am continuing to stretch and have another physio appointment on Tuesday.
I know there's a big difference between 5.75 miles and 26...but I am feeling encouraged that I had no pain this morning
Enjoy the beautiful weather today, and your last long runs.
TH I did about the same distance today with 3 walk breaks to take the pressure off my calves. Similarly I felt a bit encouraged because I didn't really need my 3rd walk break as my calves seemed warmed up enough. It took me just over an hour so that seems reasonable.
EP can I rave about Wiggle please? I only ordered my compression sox very late Thursday night and guess what came in the post this morning??? Talk about a swift turn-around! And I'm so out of the way in Wales my post-code usually means an extra day on postage. Excellent service.
I have not yet ordered through Wiggle but have heard rave reports about it. Am looking forward to putting in an order! So glad your sox arrived quickly
Mmmm.... Wonder where she is? Must be out doing her 'long run' ( well long considering she's tapering)
Hope your last few training runs are going OK, Sprinkletoes and Pix. Will be thinking of you on the 25th. I shall be running the Sheffiled Half that day. I'm doing my last long run tomorrow in preparation for it.
Lurker fretting over here. The only reason I'm not texting you Pix is because I don't want to hassle you, but suffice to say your thread is now on e-mail notification
Hopefully you're just out enjoying the sunshine EP!
I managed 5 miles today - a bit of a run / walk session as everytime I felt the familiar pain I walked for about a minute before starting again and was managing about 10mins between each pain. Also tried running a bit differently by pushing my pelvis forward and it seemed to help. Put more pressure on my thigh muscles but know that I can use that if necessary - plus it makes me stand up straight so can see my surroundings more on the day!
Now a week ahead of sports injury guy, sports massage, ibuprofen 3 times a day and icing and heating it!
My friend is the US - the earliest flight she can get is Wed morning. She is running the marathon in a huge Little Miss costume, think she is worrying she wont get back in time to register at expo.
Just did a slow 10 getting the feel of running in the heat. Ran in full race kit felt a bit of a plonker with my name on my vest but hey ho.
Sorted out exactly what I am going to wear and have decided I may wear a hat if it is sunny.
Not much running this week may run with the beginners on Tuesday which is usually a slow 3/4 miles.
Well done everyone. Not feeling too nervous yet will probably happen after I get my mumber. I am jealous of all of you who have run a marathon before as at least you know you can do it!
Well done Flo Po - I'm only doing an easy 3 later this week. SO one more run...I know what you mean about knowing you can do it. If I knew beyond all reasonable doubt that I won't blow up somewhere between Mudchute and Embankment I'd feel a whole lot happier!
Mitiog I think it is better to air on the side of caution and run conservatively I would rather finish strong but slower than blow up at the end trying for something I am not sure is achievable. If I finish thinking I could have run better then I will know for the next one
Yes that's true Flo Po - I've NEVER heard anyone say "I wish I went out faster". Pretty much everyone I've ever spoke to about races of any distance either got it spot on or went out too fast or slowed. I must say pacing that last 10K is going to be a killer...
Have got my last bits and pieces bought for next week - can't believe this time next week it will all be over (hopefully!!!).
Been reading the marathon magazine and to be honest am scaring myself. As much as I've watched it every year on the tv I just don't know what to expect and am praying my injury holds out until 15miles then can hobble the last 11!
went to a specialist foot doctor re: the planta issues. he took me through lots of tests and it turns out that my left leg is shorter than my right...which apparently is rare as the left leg is usually longer!!
Anyway, he explained, but it didnt really register, that due to this issue, it effects my right leg due to compensation etc.
He has given me a 2mm heel raiser....he mentioned that it wasnt great before a marathon and testing it on a long run, but if it gives me grief on the day, I can take it out and throw it..
hope everyone had a good weekend. just having a few glasses of red wine to celebrate the end of the penultimate week...

Hope everyone has good weekends
EP
I don't think you need to go as far as the schedule and I see Liz Y thinks even 10 is more than enough and is suggesting 70 mins.
How about 85 minutes with 40 mins easy (3M), 23 mins at marathon pace (2M) and 27 (2M) easy which will be about 7 miles approx.
Morning all

Hmmm, no sign of the Evil One.
Hope all is OK.

oh yeah good thinking....my ouchy woman is in crete - oh crumbs!
Feeling sorry for Little Miss.....i would be cr**ing myself by now - hopefully all will be okay x
Its a bit of a knightmare - if all the foreign runners cant get here we might finish in the top half!!!
I'm sure it will all work out ok - I'm not taking her costume for her though!!!
I suppose I could register for her though
fingers and toes crossed for ouchy men/women and everyone else!
Hope everyone's final run went or will go well.
EP good run - looks like you are ready for a great marathon next week.

I think i have got everything....its all getting really real now!
