Keep it going MA, just 563.4 miles to go!! Just over 22 weeks to go, so roughly 25.3 miles a week will see you reach the 1000!!

I've got a 2 week honeymoon where I won't be running at all coming soon! imageimage

So thats 20 weeks effectively, with 560 miles to go -  coming out about 28 miles. From next Sunday I'm heading out with the people training for an autumn marathon so that should pick the mileage up. (Not doing a mara myself, but got a few halfs lined up)

I'm gonna be close, but suspect I'll possibly just miss out. Its always the 2 months after the spring marathon that I really struggle with! image

Thanks for the support WR though!

Be positive MA you can do it, I didn't go running on my honeymoon but I had just had my leg taken out of plaster - had to get the plaster off early for the wedding - I had broken my ankle falling over out running.

Ps. married 12 years tomorrow, were does the time go?

Very quiet July for me, just 60 miles, year to date 830 miles. I've been out from running with a throat infection for the last 10 days. The GP prescribed antibiotics on Friday and it cleared up by Sunday. So it's back on with the trainers for a busy August. Let's see if I can get to a 1000 miles this month.

I was intending to do the Snowdon Marathon, but it's full so no autumn marathon. Instead a friend and I are intending to run the Lyke Wake Walk on 12 September. It's a 39 mile trek from Osmotherley to Ravenscar over the North Yorkshire Moors. Hence the need for a mamouth August.

Does anyone have any thoughts on food intake for a 39 mile run over 8-10 hours. I reckon I'll need about 4000 calories. We'll be stopping for a break after every 10 miles. Does that sound enough?

How is it that alcohol just gets in the way of running, had quite big nights on Friday & Saturday which totally put pay to any plans on a nice long slow run, managed a little 4 mile walk with friends on Sunday by the sea but apart from that just 2 runs last week totalling 8.2 miles.

Couple of weeks back I entered a 30k trail race for this coming weekend, which I am now quite worried about, just haven't done anything close for what seems like ages. Although just had a look at my log and a 30k 5 weeks ago and a half 2 weeks ago, probably isn't that bad, just haven't been doing the small stuff inbetween.

Anyway good luck all, keep it going.

1000 miles is very inspiring. I just started a million metres challenge for myself trying to run it in the shortest time I can manage with a year as a backstop. All going well - started on 1 August and have done 20,000 metres already. Maybe I'll see how we go with this one and work up to 1,000 miles in a year next. Best of luck with staying as injury free as you can.

Richard, do you intend to run the 39 miles or run/walk? Gels and jelly babies should suffice and some peanut butter sandwiches and bananas. Is this the build up to ultra running?

I would have thought trying to consume 4000kcal on the run would be quite difficult, have never tried any specialist high calorie foods but now is the time for you to do the testing. Good luck with the training, i've got 11 weeks till the Palma marathon and need to start increasing the long runs!!!

I think we'll be running the flat and downhill stretches. The uphills will be run/walk. We're thinking of a 20 minute break every 10 miles when we'll scoff sandwiches/chocolate and then keep topped up with jelly babies sounds a good plan. I hiked the route a few years back in about 15 hours with a break for a big pub lunch. I need to start practising with a camelback with some weight in it. It's a good motivation to up my mileage this month.

What time are you targetting for Palma? Hope it's cooler than Edinburgh was, now that's a sentance you wouldn't expect, Mallorca needing to be colder than Scotland!!

I have a camelbak octane that I use for runs over 15 miles and carried it at Edinburgh,  i have no probs with it. Have been looking at a rucksack with bladder in Decathlon for £25 and thinking about getting that. I fancy the move up to ultra distance but just don't have the time to give it the proper training at the minute.

I am hoping for between 3.45-3.59 in Palma. It should be cooler than Edinburgh, but you never know!!

Cracked the 1000 mile........ done a 14 mile LSR today which brings the total to date to 1010 mile, reasonably decent week and put in 39 miles so far, I'll do a slow 5 miler tomorrow which will give me 44 miles for the week.

Working well towards my target average of 50 miles per week.image

    Yesssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been for a run!!!! Well, four actually and my achilles is definately on the mend big time! No aching in the morning, before, during or after a run (well, only a little ache on one occasion, iced for a couple of days and no pain since). Have taken it very steady on physios advice, very short distances, very easy pace and the stretches really seam to be having an effect. My knee pain is still there, although its only hurting at the front and not as much as before. Physio is happy for me to run as only anterior (i think thats what he said) pain and gave me a couple of stretches but warned its extremely difficult to get rid of. Its been very hard not to speed up when i see other runners but a careful approach will be stuck to and i'm just glad to be making some real progress at last. Won't bother posting my distances for a few weeks, i will see how it goes and if it goes well i will start adding my mileage again. image

    Great running Derek.

JR good luck with the running.

Good 42 mile week for me this week. Hoping for another 40+ week this week. I'm practising with a light weight back pack, bought one yesterday and did a nice gentle 7 miles, felt ok.

Which backpack are you using? I don't know whether to buy one I saw in decathlon (£25), or go for the tried and tested raidlight 10l (60). Hoping to do a couple of off road marathons next year, one being an ultra.

13.5 mile trail run yesterday for me, was early morning and was a gorgeous day, I love days like that!!

Boy do those lack of LSR really hit you. did my 30k race but was run walk from about 20k onwards. Couple of other runs in the week made it 27.4M for the week which is milage that will get me to the 1000.

Just need to keep it up.

You can do it Catcat, keep it going!!

2 more miles this morning. nice steady pace, just over 18 minutes. feeling good now, will have a few steady 3 milers next week and all being well start to gradually get back into proper training for the winter. This summer was meant to be a really good one and its turned into a bummer. But with the fair weather runners slowly disappearing from the trails and pavements i am determined to come back stronger than ever and get the 1000 miles next year...

A good long run today, 21 miles up on down hills between Sheffield and Hathersage in the peak district with my new OMM 25 litre bag, which was really comfortable, definitely I'd recommend one. I stopped in Hathersage after 12 miles for a jacket potato and lots of tea, which fuelled me up well. I ran the last mile with a Calypo Ice which I picked up at an ice cream van, I think running with ice lollies could be the future of August running.

I'm up to 899 miles, so should be well within a hundred miles of the 1000 by next week.

I've signed up for the Belfast Marathon next May, it seems you need to sign up earlier for runs these days. I notice Brighton is full for next April, obviously London is full, amazingly Snowdon is full in the autumn.

Just 2 runs this week (another leaving do) for me but it was 2 crackers. Bit of orienteering on Tuesday, got lost, fell over, got soaked, came last but best run I've had in ages. And a nice piece of the south downs yesterday.

Got no more leaving dos or big nights out for a couple of weeks so hopefully can get some good runs in.

This week 15.8M, This month 43.1, this year 569, need to average 22M per week.

I have no idea what this particular piece of spam is about as I'm not about to click on any of those links. image

Well done on being able to run again JR and to Derek too for passing the 1000 mark! image

Glad you enjoyed your run Catcat, sounds like you had fun! image

I have done 77.95 miles since my last post. That brings this years mileage up to 677.95.

Most runs have been quite short and last week I went over on my ankle. So much for my injury free year. At leat I was only off running for 2 days. Managed 6.5 miles yesterday on it and it felt fine... phew!

Keep up the good work everyone.
