I'm just making the list and printing off maps of useful locations like the Ship or the Marine. I didn't make it to the Marine last year as it only opens at 5 I think and I was so wet and cold I didn't even fancy an ice cream to pass the time till then.
Anyone else up for a wee drink (not that sort of wee, it's not that sort of forum) Friday night?
This will be my first ever marathon on Saturday morning & I can't wait. However slight panic tonight as my head was slowly getting into gear & I rang the Travel Lodge re: breakfast options, only to find out their's doesn't start till 8am. Clearly not the best planned.
So, are there any locals able to offer advice re; breakfast for about 7am on Saturday. I only want porridge
Any help appreciated. Looking forward to meeting some of you on Saturday in the rain on the hills!!!!
yep, hopefully see some of you there and hope you have good runs. I'm heading straight down to eastbourne after work and will meet my family there, try and book a cab for the morning from polegate and be at the start plenty early enough tomorrow to admire that big hill and enjoy the rain!
I'm excited too...just packing my many bags and ticking things off my list...Hubby and I are setting off to our lighthouse at about 10.30/11am....see you there
Stayed in the Travelodge last year and booked for tonight, there were a number of runners staying there so they started breakfast from 7am. They may do the same again.
I'll take a view on which shoes in the morning - at the mo it's dry and fine so I'd go with road shoes but if it looks like rain during the run - and that is looking increasingly likely - I'll probably go with trail
M..eldy & Peter Bowles - thanks both for your responses. Have rung Travelodge who said breakfast will be starting at 8am, helpful ...lol. ......oh well, bananas & rice cakes it is, not sure I can face porridge without milk.
forecast on beeb this morning was a bit better - rain pushing through by 10ish and then sunshine and showers. Trail shoes for me - mine are comfy anyway so quite happy pottering around in them. Bigger question now is waterproof or no waterproof as I hate running in it....
I'd just get wet Birdy.....it looks like it will be windy and as you say, the rain might push through, or not as the case may be, so I'll go with a long sleeve base top and a windproof gilet to keep the core warm. legs I couldn't care about - years of cold wet muddy rugby pitches have toughened them up!
Getting ready for my 5th consecutive BHM and it looks like its going to be 3-2 to good weather beating bad weather just. As long as it is slightly better than last year then it will be good (I want to be able to see more than 50-100metres as well). The only bad thing is that I am taking progressively longer to complete the race (due to insufficient training from doing triathlons through the summer) so I am spending a longer time in the bad weather than I did in the good weather.
On the shoes choice note - although I possess more pairs of trail shoes and studs than are good for me, i will still probably wear Saucony Triumph (only road shoes) just because of the comfort over the long distance, and the terrain being good paths except the few muddy bits in the woods. Long sleeve thermal base layer and a small pack down jacket look a good bet, oh and an umbrella.
I have a place going as my running partner has come down with a chest infection email me if anyone intrested i can meet you there in the morning. markfox491@btinternet.com

Can't believe the weather's going to be foul again. Time to start packing the kitchen sink.

Hi All
I have a place going as my running partner has come down with a chest infection email me if anyone intrested i can meet you there in the morning. markfox491@btinternet.com
Oops lost my number
Hope the start team have spares!
Ok its going to piss it down through the early hours over most of the south, possible showers during the day too so pack your off roaders too.
Temp wise at the mo is warmer than the last few days here. So no frost in the morning.
My marshalling point is about 3 miles and 19 miles, see you all tomorrow.
