    yep, especially the wine!

    Happy Christmas to all.

10km done today in deep snow, more a stumble than a run but quite enjoyable - now it's over!

Happy Christmas all. 10k run (or skate) today, 2 hour turbo yesterday.

I hope Oscar went down well, Mad(a)lot - as a pet rather than a meal.

Should start Finking tomorrow, but the pool still isn't open. I got some yummy Time Ulteam tri shoes from the fat bearded one - actually it was the from the girlfriend so I'd better not describe her thus.

Apparently Santa's not real - new Wikileaks.

TF (and anyone else starting to Fink tommorrow) - are you adjusting the schedule to take into account extra training time (if off work for the Bank Holidays) or the weather?

Despite the snow everywhere, I feel I should be able to get more than 6 hours in this week (and will do if I get week 1 of marathon training in). Then again, biking looks like being turbo only, so and the pool will be mostly shut or inaccessible, so maybe I'll leave things as they are!

Happy New Training Year to all starting out tomorrow.

Pool should be open the latter end of this week shouldnt it?

My training plan doesnt start til 10th January and I have spent the morning rearranging the sessions to fit round my shifts for the first 8 weeks!

which one are you using? I feel I ought to follow a plan but never sure which one would be suitable

IPM if you are using Fink you should be going for competative programme I kid you not,.

I had a lovely hour and a half on the montain bike up on Bodmin Moor the tracks were fine but it was a monster work out in the deeper drifts, looks like we have a definate thaw setting in now down hereimage lots of peeps out on the moors running and biking this morningimage

I have a question....what is the fink programme?
  • Options

Don Fink is a coach, his very popular book is called "Be Iron Fit" and has 3 ironman training programmes in - Just Complete, Competitive and an intermediate one, along with lots of great advice on training for an IM.

Each one is a 30 week plan and lots of people are about to start their plans, myself included.....

The other great book is Joe Friels' book, Going Long,  not the triathlete's training Bible, that was a little advanced I felt for a noob like me..

Its a training programme out of Don Fink,s book BE IRON FIT. you can buy it online

Suka Its a book "Be Ironfit" by Don Fink contains stacks of info and programmes to crack your first Ironman I used it for my first couple now I use a sort of personalised version I think its abot £8 from Amazon

The thaw has definately set in off for an hours easy  run soon

OC December has definately been a bit hit and miss with me with sickness, weather etc but on a positive it has forced me to really take my foot off the gas and give my body a good rest I am loking forward to officially starting Grizzly training on the 1st January with IM Wales kicking in the start of March

Gt to get my swim MP3 sorted with stacks of tunes to take the edge off lenght after lenght in the pool it loks a good piece of kit I will let you knw if I am still impressed after a month or soimage

BTW I have all three Finks on Excel if you pm me your email address. Haven't inputted the swim sessions though, so if you want to follow them, then you need the book.

Of course go buy the book anyway!

    Merry Christmas Everyone!!

I have just written my 36 week plan. It's basically the intermediate fink plan adapted for the Edinburgh marathon at week 18,- and with a pre-base phase to get me used to the frequency of training again.

IPM you cracked a really strong debut at  Outlaw so why not really crank it up image the only thing I find with the competitive is finding the time also the swim is justb to much so I do a slightly tweaked begiiner swim and copetative bike and run program i just ordered an new copy as i got some amazon vouchers and there is a new edition so....... i lent Cornish Digger got my old well worn copy so have a  late xmas pressie on me CDimage

How did you do this year IPM?
  • Options

Rmax, thats very ind of you, but will you not need to refer to the notes in it.

For those who just find it impossible (like me) to follow a prescriptive training programme then I use Fink just as a rough guide to what level of volume etc I should be doing at a particular stage of my training period.

I find the 30 week periodization useful - ie 10 week base, 10 week build etc and just keep half an eye on Fink as I train my own merry way through the year.

I do totally ignore his swimming programme though

Much of IM training is about time management and Fink covers this well.

    Just my humble opinion  image

I have already sussud that any training programme is great in an ideal world.  I have already adopted the plan to follow it as best I can, expecially the longer sessions, but work and family will have an impact, especially during weekdays.

I also have to fit in Grizzly and London marathon at some time.

May help if I spent less time on these forums!!

I know what you mean about Finks swim programmes he naturally assumes we are all fish

ST....dont spend too much on a turbo, they are so boring, i only use mine as a last resort when the roads are icy.
Thats only my opinion, i guess some people love their's
  • Options

    SB

I will generally always choose a ride over the turbo but they are a great tool for ironman training I use mine for early morning sessions where they are a great time saver straight out of bed shorts and shoes and MP3 on and go for it + an hour on the turbo is pure training no freewheeling great for practicing and sticking to your ironman pace, also good for bricks off the turbo gillet and trainers on and stright out the door

ST if you decide to buy one be carefull cheap trainers can be noisy not evvery one will appreciate that at 5am image

Pool was shut for maintainance, but is opened today after all, so did 1500 metres and then 30 minutes on the treadmill. Then fell off my mtb when I cycled into a curb when a lorry overtook without actually steering - turbos do have some advantages, as I tend not to get twonk drivers in my front room. Good start.

    Well, Finklaw training Day 1.

Should be a rest day but I needed to do something resembling a long run after a couple of weeks of very little, so enjoyed a steady 11 miles on mostly ice-free roads.

Sounds like a scary encounter, TH - maybe there is something to say for turbos!

Can I have some advice pls!!?

Entered IMUK (first time at this distance) and following a training plan (sort of), but because of the weather, I havent been able to get out on the bike...so Ive been stuck on the turbo in the garage....which is ok, but even with MP3's and DVD's....it is a bit dull and brain numbing after a while.

What sort of training on the turbo would anyone recommend for a IM (duration / intervals etc)

    Cheers!!!!
