31 is the longest I've done and the longest I'm going to do according to my training plan. I chose a 23 route I'm very familiar with and then an 8 mile route so that if I had a problem I wasn't too far from home. I also had my daughter waiting with a banana and a cold fresh bottle of lucozade sport which was a nice boost just before the marathon mark!
30 miles is more than enough to get you around and if you are an experienced marathon runner then you could get away with even less tbh.
The pace for these things is much slower, all you really need to watch out for is not eating enough and be aware that at some point you *will* feel terrible during the run, but it will pass you just need to push on through.
tbh I would be more worried about getting lost than how much mileage you have done
I've worked from home today and the mapbook has just been delivrered.
There is a two page booklet which is basically the same as the pdf that's on the website, the race number, a key tag (i'm guessing for bag drop off at the start) and the vital map book. it has a nice route profile on the back inside page, a nice almost vertical hill at 50-ish miles which must be blackcap.
New map book arrived different course until you get to the run inti lavender platt. I'm going to go for a reccie next saturday from cp1 to ashurst wood. Its about 21 miles ish. Will be getting to cp1 for 8:30 if anyone is intrested.
Little disappointed with the pack though the info may have been a little bit better. Oh well still looking forward to the run. What sort of times are people looking to run it in?
Have to say I was quite impressed with the professionalism of the map book; much better than I was expecting and really not that bulky to carry around for 57 miles... getting excited now!
Different event Rosemary ... this is the Extreme Running L2B Ultra on 30th Sept ... I believe there is a similar event organised by a differenc company which you may be referring to...

I'll compare it to my 2009 route map (a friends).
I was really hoping there would be an index of where each checkpoint was mileage wise to workout refueling on water etc.
But alas there isn't
I think the first checkpoint is approx 18.5 miles and then every 9-ish there after.
There are a few changes upuntil page 15 but looks mostly the same from then onwards.
Sorry Ruth, you're right. first is at Keston which is about 8.3 if you ran down the A2212

Ruth, sub 13 hours, piece of cake.
Hoping some kind soul will help me out
I don't have the map book from last year, has anyone had a chance to do a detailed recon between last years and this years route?
I want to know which sections I will need to recce that are different to the route I ran in 2010.
Is it identical from Horsted Keynes? Different or identical earlier on in the route?
Cheers,
Gav
have last year's and will have the opportunity to compare with Ruth's today. Will report back ASAP.
Feeling a bit intimidated by the Checkpoint cut off times ... would hate to be 'binned' late in the day ....
looks like I will be going twice then
Hi all,
Is this thread for the 2013 London2Brighton challenge, or is there another before that, which you are all doing? I'm signed up for the May 2013 event.
