Have just got my number, and forgotten it! Anyway was less than chuffed to be a 32 year old veteran, nothing like making me feel my advancing years!!
  • Options
Ok Bootie, I will let you know nearer the time (ok so only a matter of days :)), just in case my plans change.

    Cheers

Ruth I thought the ladies vets catagorys started at 35 (cheek) and the mens at 40.

    Thankfully I dip under that.

Hi, just tuned in and a bit confused about the veteran chat! I have already entered but like Ruth am a long way off becoming a veteran as are some other friends who have also entered.

I was going to take the train in from Putney to allow a congratulatory beer at the end! I did note that Fosters is one of the sponsors .

Jonathan - Sounds like a great idea - nothing like replaceing those carbs!

We need to organise a meeting point and a time. (Or have we done that already?)

Actually, does it start from the pub?

I seem to remember last year going from the pub to the riverside then a walking start. Probably best to meet near the river rather than near the pub (considering how many of us there are). I will happily defer to local experts though.
  • Options
Hi everyone, I have only posted one message on this thread very early on but have been following the conversation and as I am one of the 'locals' that Gavo refers to, I can confirm that the start is just short of half a mile from the pub, close to a McDonalds which may be an ideal landmark (outside, not inside sampling any of their products of course). Good luck to all of you running and let us hope for drier weather than yesterday.
  • Options
So is it a meeting outside McDs then??! How about 950am or so?
  • Options
How about meeting at the Cabbage Patch pub initially @9am and then outside McD's for for about 9.45am. That way we can all drop our bags off and be near the toilets each time...!
  • Options
I do like the sound of all these meeting points - pub, fast food shop etc

Being a true professional, I am that keen to know the route that it appears I may even be going to the Cabbage Patch the night before too! It could be a problem that the section of the route I will be checking is the inside of the pub!

Thanks to David I am not worried about it due to his advice that this may be classified as carb loading - brilliant!

For the list, my number is 4481. Am intrigued as to the numbering system!
  • Options
Alfie, I was wondering that too seeing as the limit is only 1000!

McD's sounds OK to me - can't get to the pub for 9 as I'm reliant upon trains. Think I'm gonna need a few printouts of venoms & caz's lists to meet you all.

    VenomCaz,

I have entered but have not as yet received my number.
But I will be looking at a time of 1h 20mins.

    Cheers,

I could regret this. My PB is 1:25:26 so anything less than that will be fab!

Bit of competition I see! I'm hoping for a sub-70 minutes time though not by much as I have been slacking off the long distance training for a while now. Maybe 1:08:00? This puts me after Venom and Alfie. See y'all there (look out for a green vest with a yellow stripe).

Bootie, I've switched accomodation and am now staying in Twickenham, thanks for the offer to follow you anyway!

The little place I'm booked into has just been converted and it's newly kitted out, but what I liked as well was that the fact that the owner was on her first glass of wine of the day! A woman after my own heart!
  • Options
Caz, what time do you think you will be getting to Twickenham? If you fancy meeting for a drink give me a shout! Likewise with everyone else who is local...
  • Options
Mark H - I'll be snapping at your heels! (and so will Graeme)...
  • Options
Spans, I'm not sure yet as my boyfriend is taking me clubbing Friday night (good training) and I'll be getting up late Saturday (no doubt), only to travel home to my house on Saturday on the train (with engineering works in progress, thanks connex), collect my stuff and drive and try and find Twickenham.

When I travelled to Kingston this weekend I made it about 9pm! I hope to be more organised this weekend, but I'm warned Friday night is a late one (or early morning).

Maybe I should adjust my time back to 1:25:00?

Anyway Spans, I'll let you know.
  • Options
Well a glass of wine would have sold me to. Think I'm going to get the train now anyway as I may be going for a beer in Kingston after. Going clubbing Friday?, Brave!!, really going to try & take it easy this wknd.
  • Options
Bootie, I'm not so much brave but completely stupid :)

I think I'm in danger of not taking this seriously enough. And I'll probably end up having a ciggie or two.

    I'll get me coat.

There's nothing like good preparation - and that's nothing like good preparation (says the lad who's ran once since 22/9). My idea of taking a race seriously is remembering to take all my kit with me (which would be an improvement on my no-show at dulwich last w/e.)

    Gavo,

You make me feel postively committed.

    Thanks!

Been two years since I did 10 miles but you can add my time to your list as an optimistic 1:12. You can catch me in 5008.

Since my name has been added to the ever growing list, I had better give you the other details. The number is 4304 (definitely) and the time is 75 mins (hopefully). However, my brother-in-law is running this distance for the first time in preparation for his first half-marathon in two weeks time so I may chicken out and run with him instead.
