Hi Maam - hope you are feeling better and your New Year sniffles have cleared up.

Please don't worry about your mileage or the fact that you're not running at the mo. In the words of Elbow - We've got open arms for broken hearts (maybe not that bit) and everyone's here!

You don't need to talk about running either. Mal and I spent virtually the whole of Xmas talking about anything but running. (Hogwarts, Cakes, Ice Cream, Insomnia!) Booey always goes on about her clothing Haha image and Stripes, well hes a bit of a part timer now really! image Its probably not what these forums were intended for but it's very amusing at times and the guys here are great company!

What we do have in common is a great sense encouragement for each other. Once you get going and post your progress on here we'll all be backing you.

In the meantime you can just write whatever comes to mind and one of us will reply! image

Boo I think you are right about running in winter. Get through this and we'll be hooked for life! Loved my run today. Now where's my reward? Ice Cream!!!!!

Silver - should you really be having that HD, given has much 'reward' you've had without the runs???

Sniffles still not cleared up, lungs so painful can't even get a bra on let alone go for a run image I did however give in this morning and do a few sit ups but have suffered the whole day as a result image

Bet you're glad with footie today, just watched the end after watching Cowboys and Aliens with friends, and looking back at the pics from NYE, OMG what a night that was, another have fun and suffer image

Can't wait till I report some exercise, even if is stepper rather than run just to get back to it, I'm getting so frustrated not being able to get out, can't even walk too far at the mo imageimageimage

Maam it sounds like you're having real problems at the mo. Have you been able to get into work this week? I'd leave the exercise for a while if it causing you so much pain. You'll bounce back once youre feeling healthy again.

I had no idea painful lungs could stop you wearing a bra! And they say you can't learn things on these forums! Haha! image. Think that's one for the ladies to help with! image

Do you have any idea when you may be well enough to run again? Does it depend on seeing the specialist first?

I'm pleased about Liverpool finally scoring a few. Hopefully it will spur them on for the season and the cup.

Now about these smiley faces - all the ones in your last post are unhappy and I don't think that's good. From now on only one sad face is allowed in each post ok?

If you want to watch something uplifting try this - it will make you cry but in a good way - really. image. http://www.c25k.com/ben_video.html

You'll need the sound up btw.

Get well soon Maam. It's difficult to take it easy when you want to get started again but it sounds like you'd recover better if you were a bit kinder to yourself for a while. Hope you are soon back to normal.

Booey, did you find your pace picked up after you saw Iron man?!

Silver, Glad you enjoyed your run so much.

Stripes, you've gone AWOL again! Hope you are feeling a bit happier and haven't joined in with the walking wounded.

I'm doing a 3.5k tomorrow as per schedule before a visit to the in laws. I've bought a treadmill on MIL's (Mother-In-Law for you Silver!) behalf and found a really good deal, £150 instead of £400 wish I could accidentally on purpose keep it!

Thanks for the support guys, feeling a bit better this morning, and still as impatient to get back out there.  Done a few more sit ups while I'm feeling good.  Less that half what I used to do so not really pushing it. I've been trying to get some fresh air too to see if helps, but so far pretty much walking from the house the car and back again, today going to talk my partner into walking a little further, it is quite mild here without much wind so slow and steady me thinks image

Sil - don't mean to be so down and sad image just so frustrated at wanting to be able to get back to doing something.  I can try exercising while waiting for the specialist about my ankle, but any pain and it's stop instantly.  For now it is just this damn cold/flu thing stopping me and after so long since it started to linger I've had enough and want that clean New Year to get out there again.  On the good side I feel stronger every morning, just doesn't seem to last all day, yesterday was my best morning, lasted till about 11 before I went downhill again!  As for work, did 2 hrs 45 on Tues and got sent home.  Only to go back Monday if 100% or its back to the Dr's, see how that one goes.

Mal - good luck with the run, let us know how it goes.

To all of you, sorry for being down, it does keep my spirits lifted seeing how well you all do, just jealous can't join in, yet image

Well I have done it, I have been out for a walk, just to Tesco and back, 1.1km each way and was carrying shopping back.  Took 15 min18 there and 15 min 20 back.  Just feel glad to have done something. Going to rest now though!

Well done getting out Maam. It was beautiful today. I almost got a tan watching my boy practice this morning. image.

He looked good in his new Liverpool away kit - the grey one. Xmas pressie from Gramdparents. image

Finally finished the decorating and laying the carpet in our bedroom this afternoon. Then went to watch Puss in Boots.

Hoping to get out for another run in the morning all being well. image

Mal - did you manage to get out today? Does that mean you can use the MIL's tready? Could come in handy if she lives close by?

Ok, in prep for the start of my running in 2012 I have just downloaded an app to my phone which in theory will map what I do.  Still going to take the stopwatch though, until I know it works at least image

I swear by Runmeter for the IPhone Maam. I've logged going on 400k on this and it's all recorded and kept on the IPhone. The new update includes splits, virtual runner etc. Only thing is you have to cart your phone round with you which is why I bought a Garmin but to get the data out of this you need to upload everything. Runmeter allows you to view and analyse everything as soon as you are finished. I know it's geeky but I usually sit on the front step reviewing my times while I cool down after a run.

There are a lot of others out there too. Which one did you get?

Hey All - I just posted the 1000th post on this forum - excellent! image

Well I ran again this morning. 7.5k in 40.26 which isn't my best time but it felt good and that's 17k in last 3 days. I started in the dark as usual and finished in the light although no spectacular sunrise today. image

Anyway just glad to be back on it and clocking up the miles. Next weeks LSR is going to be an 8 miler as I stretch it out for the HM.

    Happy running all.

Good run Silver - looks like after a week of no running you've  definately got it back.

The one I went for is runtastic, its free on my android phone, don't have Iphone!

Well I've managed some more sit ups today, hoping to walk to my partners parents for t, only about 10 mins, but better than nothing.  Feeling bit stronger each day but still don't feel could cope with a run image

    Hi all,

Well I have managed to complete week one of the new training plan.

Did 5k on Wednesday and Friday. Both were hard work but got them done.

Today I have managed 10k for the first time since November 20th. Felt better than for ages when I set off but struggled towards the end.

Legs a bit sore but hope they will recover enough to enable me to go into week two.

Hope everyone's running (or rehab) is going well image

Stripes, good to hear from you and that you are doing so well, can't believe you have jumped back to 10k so quick, very impressed.

I've been for another walk today, just short of 1k took about 20mins - decided better than driving to my partners parents for dinner, walking would burn some cal image

Back to Dr's tomorrow to see how doing, but hopefully will be ok to go back to work image and of course crack on with some exercise, think will still stick to walks initially though image

Hi Stripes. That's great news well done on the 10k. I didnt realise it had been so long since your injury. Im sure it will get easier now as you've probably broken that phsycological barrier.

We can try to stretch the miles out together as we head for the HMs so let me know how you get on. I'm looking at trying an 8m run next Sat or Sun all being well If I start my club runs again and have a shorter 5 or 6k mid week that will be pushing +30k a week!

All seems a bit more serious training for a HM but I have to keep remembering I'm not doing it to break any records just for the fun and the fitness! image

Can't believe Liverpool drew Man U in fourth round. I guess Suarez will still be out so no worries about Evra. Good win on Friday night though - Carroll took his goal well - at last!

Well done getting out Maam. Hope the docs is ok tomorrow.
  • Options
Hi Maam. Hope the Docs goes okay. Sounds like walking to start with would be a good idea. Can easily move into a run/walk type programme to test the water image
  • Options

    Hi Silver,

Your running sounds like its going well image

I'm hoping that I can do a 7 miler next weekend if the legs hold up image

The draw is unreal. Got a feeling Evra will have a mysterious injury the day before the game image

  • Options

Yeah, here is to hoping all goes well, even going to walk to Dr's and back, only about 10 mins each way so nothing to strenuous.  I know building to a run/walk would be the way to go, but I also know me and the years of military training behind me that I'll start back running/jogging (prob better description of pace) and just building on distance/speed image

Hadn't seen the footie draw silver so thanks for the update, what's the chances Liverpool can pull off a win though, and without anymore 'racist' bits???

Silver - I know there has been a lot of sad faces from me, but I am enjoying getting out in the fresh air - even if my partner won't let me walk if it rains, he he he, just coz he doesn't like getting his hair wet image

    Hi everyone.

    We missed you Stripes!

    Hi Mal.

Hope the running is going well. Loved the picture of the cake image

Morning folks image hope you all had a good weekend

Did 5 miles yesterday, the garmin played up and was on ft rather than miles image so when I turned round to come back I had to reset it so I just had to double it up image I was most annoyed it made me stop and then the satelllites took ages to download image

Maam well done on getting more walking in and at least things seem to be getting better for you, hope you are soon fully recovered then you can start thinking about having alittle run image

Silver - good for you getting out again and bumping the mileage up image

Stripes - I reckon your getting there now, your doing the right thing and talking it gradually image think positive and things will keep improving

Finished a few more little bits that needed doing round the house at the weekend which was good and OH fitted the new light fitting in the toilet which looks a treat image I was out running whilst he did that as he tends to swear alot when he does any DIY image hehe

I have my race this sunday so looking forward to that, also have every intention of doing all 3 club runs this week image

Well back from the Dr's and the verdict: I'm still not right image signed off work till next week, but need to keep up the walking to build strength and get some fresh air into me, so long as I wrap up warm and don't overdo it.

Boo - Good luck with the run this weekend, sure you'll be great, you've put in so much hard work to get there.

OK, off for brew now and to do as dr says and rest a bit image

  • Options

Maam - well at least when you hear it from the Dr to still take it easy and your still not quite right you know you have been doing the right thing.  You take it easy this week and try and keep having a few little walks and fingers crossed you feel loads better for next week image I bet you are so bored lol

Yeah looking forward to the run this weekend, its seems ages since I did a race and I really do enjoy them.  At least I can check out the course and see if I fancy tackling the 15K in a couple of weeks image also it costs everytime you enter and they are not always cheap image

Anyone been the cinema lately?  We are thinking of going to see the one about maggie thatcher later, see what thats like also fancy War Horse that is being advertised.

  • Options

Boo - I'm really bored, feel so tired too but can't even sleep to pass the time!

Going to keep on with the walking coz I'm sure it is helping, already walked 2k today going to Dr's and back - all be it at a very slow speedimage

Your run sounds good, wish I could be doing it with you, maybe later in the year?  What sort of prices is it for races?

As for the cinema it has been a while since I was last there, have fancied the look of the Maggie one though, you'll have to let us know what it is like. Think for me it could end up being back to back DVD fest today, after all its not like I'd rather be doing something else, ha ha ha!!!

  • Options

Race prices vary to be honest, prob cheapest around £12 upto maybe £30 image I don't mind if there is a decent goody bag and medal but some dont give out anything image

I can't remember where you live Maam sorry?????   Would be good to meet you for a race once your upto it defo image

I'll probably be ignored from now on but I couldn't think of anything worse than watching a film about that woman image
  • Options
LMAO Stripes image your entitled to your opinion imageimage
  • Options
Ha ha. War Horse on the other hand I really want to see but not sure I should go to cinema to see it as I will probably end up in tears and be thoroughly embarrassing image
  • Options

Yeah looks a very good film, would go and see that today if it was on  image

Watched a funny film we recorded at home y/day - I love you man - well funny and stupid image I like films that make you have a really good chuckle image

  • Options
Not heard of that one but am not much of a film buff. Last film I watched was The Inbetweeners image I know I'm twenty years too old but like most men I have a large juvenile streak!
  • Options
Really wanna see Inbetweeners movie, never watched the series but my sis has the box set and film so gonna borrow both soon image
