Should we put them in alphabetical order???

i'm seeing a pattern here - u guys missed the 'magic'4 hours before and are now running like men possessed - these half marathon times are more like 3:30 marathon splits !!!

hurrah.i suggest closer to the day we start on offline circulation: a spreadsheet of where people are staying, vest colour/number for rcognition purposes, who's on which start etc, and(the reason for off line) mobile numbers for on the day manoevres.

I agree Adam - those 1.38's look a bit like they mean business! I think unfortunately I only have 1 gear, and I don't think it's ever going to make it to the 7.5 min mile area!
Good idea about the s/s too. I'm going to be totally unrecognisable in the Shelter vest (yellow - yuk) with the loads of other Shelter runners.

Adam, I must admit that I am training twice as hard this year.

Alex, sounds like a good idea

Bagpuss: I would love to run with you but can't this Sunday as I'm doing Brentwood HM !! Long runs are so boring I could do with the company AND you're running at my pace to boot. I plan to run around 15-18 miles on Sun 21 March and then 20-22 miles on Sun 28th. It's all based on feel so if anyone wants to join in (either Central London or London/Essex area) then please let me know.

BR - what was you HM pb before? And which training do you think has made the most difference to your speed?

    Kinsey,

I hadn’t actually run a half marathon before Reading so my only previous time was the second half of last years FLM 2:00:04, negative splits.... can't beat them  I think that my secret is to the increase in speed is that I am doing more, five runs a week, only 3 or 4 last year, but also concentrating on quality. More long runs, longer long runs (last year only two of about 17 miles) and better quality speed work.

nrg-b, with that HM time you must be trying to dip under 3:30 for the marathon
  • Options
I feel a bit ashamed putting my lowly times here. Only 1 'competitive' 1/2 at 1:53 and broke down in last years FLM after injuries during training which resulted in a horrifying 4:55... Training has been reasonable this year and so far no injuries so hopefully things will be much better and I will be able to post some decent times. Starting with the Hastings on Sunday - bring it on!
  • Options
Oh well - I'm hoping the long runs I'm doing now are going to speed up my 10k time (which they have already), and that I will need to do longer long runs if I want to get faster at my marathon pace.

Kinsey - my previous HM (Reading 7 years ago) was about 1:55 (ish).

I reckon the big jump in my speed last year was due to... When my knee was playing up, the Physio ordered me to keep all running down below 10 minutes a session for a month, then 15 for a month, then 20, then 30. The result was I ran as far and as fast as I could for each of those really short sessions (although I have to admit that I generally ran for 5 minutes more than I was supposed to) - and I think my basic running style just changed...

2 years ago, I just succeeded in doing 8 minute miles for the Kingston 8.2 race - I definitely believed 7:30 miles were out of reach - but last year I was shocked when it came to the Nike 10 km last year and I did the last 2 km in 8 minutes, then the Kingston 8.2 and I did the whole lot at 7:30 pace.
  • Options
Saffie - don't you dare be ashamed of those times! 1:53 beats my second best time... I know some 1:48 HM runners who "only" managed 5:30 in the marathon last year - yet they still wear their finisher t-shirts (with a smile) every couple of weeks...

Wear all your results with pride!

If you want a good example to follow, take a look at the surprise entry at the bottom of the 3:30 group's list ;-)

    Wolfy - 1.34 half - 3.40 full
    natnif - 1:51 half (windsor 2003) - 4:16 FLM 2002

NRG-B sorry you can't run with me this weekend. Next weekend I have the last half of FLM with the Serpentine runners then skiing for a week! Sunday 28th I will be doing a 22 miler, depending on skiing injuries...

Everyone enjoy their long runs whatever they are doing this weekend, and for those injured out there and have been told not to run, be patient, the rest is worth it.
