I really need to stop smoking; DLR, any wise words to help me quit?  Only time I have stopped is when I have been pregnant, I have the worst willpower in the world...

This probably isn't going to help but I found it relatively easy.

One thing that really helped was that I didn't smoke at home.  I smoked if out, I smoked in breaks at work and I smoked while driving to/from work, so I tried to find ways of managing them: especially chewing lots, and lots, and lots of gum.

Biggest help was that I really decided I wanted to stop and having an all or nothing personality means I can switch to 'nothing' relatively easily.  Cutting down would have failed miserably for me.

Found giving up the grog far harder in the first 6-8 weeks than smoking, but that was because I hadn't realised just how much drinking was weaved into my routine.

I had to give up dairy for about 3 years; long story buy I got a horrible bacterial infection in my colon, and a result was I needed to repopulate my entire stomach/colon with good bacteria. And it took 3 years. I found certain brands of soya were much better than others (alpro being one of the worst, although their vanilla soy yogurt is really good!). I'll second rice milk in coffee. While I like almond milk for cooking, etc., I find it to curdle in coffee--gross.

DLR: Spot on with the jewelry.

Facials, pearl necklaces, and midget porn... you guys are going all-out for my bday! (Athough, for DLR this is probably just another random Thursday image ).

Okay, so I took measurements and weighed myself. And also took photos, as it's another way to assess where I'm losing and not losing.

I just weighed myself, although with my prediliction for geekery I doubt it'll stop there. I thought about getting Mr Maj to take photos but that is clearly asking for trouble

Personally I'm just looking at weight for the next 2-3 weeks but after that I'll have a weather eye on % body fat.

In terms of collating everyone's data all I'm interested in is change +/- from the previous week.  I don't want the overall figures just the change.

Well, I did the salad...yay me!  big advantage of new job is that I go the other way so don't have to walk past the chippie, japanese, kebab shop etc.

Hi all, have just found the new forum. wife will be pleased as inbox was filling up ( well it can be quite sensitive )

Have been eating healthily for last couple of days due to being back in work. have been bringing salads in with me.

in a 1 litre container i put mixed salad leaves, couple of thick chopped carrots, 1 onion, tin of tuna, beetroot, some celery, drizzle of olive oil, drizzle of balsamic, pinch of pepper.

also bring in a 1 litre container of breakfast cereal ( usualy bran flakes )

    and one banana.

these three things see me through 24 hours, while i am at work. just have to stop binging while off work and the weight should fall off. ramping up my training again at the moment, but not sure what for...

I love salads but it's just too cold at the moment to eat them so am making do with Pret soups for now; it's that 4pm slump that always gets me.. desperate for a bit of chocolate or something sweet.  Just back from a killer kettlebell session, I hurt all over, arms and legs are like jelly but managed a litte 2.5km jog home so feel nice and virtuous now image

RS hope first day went well.  KOs hope you had a fab birthday image

Suzy: I did have a fabulous birthday. I tried to be healthy without overdoing it: banana for breakfast (not enough, but I had several appointments that I had to run between), apple + banana + rice cakes for lunch, and birthday dinner was at Wagamama (we just got an outpost here in Amsterdam a bit ago; it's mediocre, but I was feeling nostalgic for my time living in London). Anyway, I had spicy noodles with tofu and veggies... and a carafe of sake... and 1 beer. But I was good about dessert: just 4 small squares of extra dark chocolate with hazelnut.

I decided to weigh myself yesterday before dinner, and--no joke--I weigh 2.5kg more than I did on Monday, all of which I can assuredly attribute to being a woman. I mean, there's no way what I've eaten this week (every day, have kept to under about 2,000 calories) could do THAT!

My favorite salad: Southwestern salad: chopped lettuce, shredded purple cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber, green onions, yellow and red bell pepper, and black beans, with maybe a bit of shredded cheddar and a lime-cilantro yogurt dressing.
I also love raw brussels sprouts salad but it takes forever to make as I don't have a mandoline and the sprouts need to be shredded super-thin.

Yeah, for the good birthday!image   And  thanks for the suggestion about shredded sprouts...I need something like that to go with a mackerel and potao salad. The recipe is for shredded celeriac but there's none to be had, here, at the moment and cabbage-coleslaw doesn't quite' go' with my plans..

I fell off the wagon, this morning...but Friday's going to be the day I have croissants for breakfast..until I'm strong enough to go cold-turkey on the whole pastry thang...

I went ok yesterday again.  Made a quorn chilli for tea.  Tonight I'll be living it up big style with poached eggs on toast...though i have planned the next couple of days meals too.

Opted to try the scales this morning.  I'd lost a bit but nowhere near as much as I'd hoped for.  Will stay off now and see if there's a decent change for Monday's 'official' weigh in.

So thats where you all got toimage

Is it okay if i weigh in on Wednesdays?  My PT weighs and measures me then?  Lost only a 1lb last week but my bum and thighs were smaller - better than nothing I guess.

PT has me on a fairly high protein diet three eggs for breakfast with a few treats my fav a piece of wholemeal toast at 11 (ooopps already eaten it) with peanut butter on (no marg) I seriously think that I could eat a whole jar of peanut butter if I was left to my own devices...ryvita with philidelphia and 100g beef at lunch and chicken, brocolli, avacado and an egg for dinner.  End up with four little meals a day.  It is quite repetative but he does change it quite frequently and it makes it easy deciding what to eat for dinner.

I am still off caffeine but loads of people have been recommending decaff green tea - anyone a fan of it?

KO - your weight can vary across a day by a few kgs.  It takes about 12 hours for food etc to be full processed through your body.  Hence why I go for the morning weigh in after usual morning conveniencies image  Also, maybe with your intake swinging up and down your body is hoarding a bit.  I'd add a bit more to your breakfast if you can, bowl of cereal, toast with high-protien, slow release spread etc (I love no added sugar peanut butter mmmm).

Well, I'm bribing my new team with chocolate brownie tart but got the shop to cut it up into small pieces to limit my intake. image

My usual salad is baby spinach, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, pepper and feta cheese, chicken or salmon with a bit of balsalmic and olive oil over the top.  If I've had a hard run I'll add some cous cous.

Radar S/KO if possible its more consistent to weigh yourself at the same time each week to take into account the factors of weight varying as RS mentions.

Whats the advantage of the green tea NGUG?  I ditched caffeine for a few weeks prior to Paris but have drank a fair bit of coffee since - probably too much.
