    Hello Badger image

Kaz - that's awful for your girl...but oh boy her Dad is the one who will miss out.... doesn't make it any easier for you to watch while your daughter is being hurt though.  I shall be off later to spend the small wee hours talking to the kids who don't have a loving Mum like you who will make sure they know they are loved every day.

Ooooh look!!!!  My picture's up....only took 10 days....

Badger - 2007 got up into the early 30s, 2011 was about 24/25, this year was about 8c but extremely strong winds. Never know what you'll get image

    Welcome SB!

@Jimbob - send a mail to Katie@rw and she should be able to edit it for you (or report the thread to moderator and do it there).

Emmy - You've made one little girl very very happy, thank you so much. And well done to you and your mum! image

Doctors appointment today.....and some good news(not much thou!!). He is going to allow me to run   5k only and only every 3 days, and only easy running no speedwork whatsoever!! image Don't think I'd be fit for speedwork anyway! Another check -up in 2 weeks.........

RS - Ex stoops to a new low today, and walks by eldest child on the street this morning! She phoned me in major disbelief on her way to school!

That was quick! I only posted it saturday afternoon! image I was going to email you today to tell you that I had posted it. Does it fit OK?

As Yer_maj says - its his loss. He'll have to live with himself and she knows who loves her.

Should I send you over an emergency packet? image

I've been to get my trainers checked out... and somehow spent a little bit of money in the rest of the store :/ I have a spanking brand new pair of Saucony ProGrid Stabil CS2 (certainly not a fancy name...) and some bright pink calf guards.

Emmy - I run in Stabils too!  I've never met another pair...

@yer_maj - they're bloody expensive! I've just looked for a second pair on wiggle/millet sports. Where do you buy yours from? The cheapest i've found is 84.50 GBP

Wiggle is the cheapest - yes they are very expensive!!

Thanks for the welcomes and info guys. Looks like it's gonna be fun on here!

I put together my training plan today. The Paris campaign starts officialy on Dec 17th but I'm currently helping a mate train for Florence in November, so I already have a decent base fitness. Yesterday's 16.3 miler was tough near the end but I still managed 2.03 and 2nd spot for my age group (45-50 - just popped into that bracket last month). image

    SB - Hi

I'm hoping to get a T shirt that fits me at the finish, instead of walking a mile, then trying the T shirt on and finding it's too small, then having to decide if it was worth walking the two-mile round trip to swap it. I went back and swapped it in the end, but I've still not worn it yet.

And at the minute I'm aiming for sub 3.40, but I'll review my target a bit nearer the time depending how the winter's gone.

I'd not recommend the GSR.... shockingly bad t-shirt for the last 2 years. I wear it around the house or to sleep in. Its like a big sheet.

    Paris Target A: 3:45

Paris Target B: To get there without injury or the mad lurgy and not having gone insane due to injury and lurgyness.

I'm taking a week off running. During the Toronto Marathon 2 weeks ago, I had some pain in my left heel during the last 5 miles or so. After a couple of days it was gone. I've run about 4 or 5 times since the race - incl a very slow 15 miler this past weekend. I can feel it while running, but not very painful and doesn't affect the run. I can also feel it at other times during the day, as well as a little pain up the medial side of my leg just above the ankle.

Not quite sure what this is all about, but I'm going to not run while in the UK and hope it resolves. I have a lot of mileage I need to get done before Disney.

This might be a dumb question, but I'm hoping one of you can help!

I'm signed up for the blue pen (3hr 30) for Paris 2013. I ran Dublin today in 3hr 19m. In order to get into the 3h 15m pen you have to send a result to the organisers. Does this mean that I need to have ran sub 3.15, or sub 3.30, which is my current pen?!

Either way, bring on Paris 2013!!

Emmy - Yes it fits fine, thanx. ( she is a rather tall 10 year old!!) I was rather surprised when it arrived today.image

After my eldests phone call this morning I skived off work and escorted junior to school.......just to be safe, didn't want her getting upset too. The poor little girl was called up in front of the whole school today by the headmistress to tell everyone about Amsterdam, Secretly she loved it!!image

Paris Goal - To be fully fit and healthy on the start and finish line, and injury free on both too.........hopefully the rest will take care of itself!!

Went to the running group tonight - Fatal mistake........when I am supposed to be taking it easy......imageimage  But it is a session that I will repeat when I am well!!

@Kaz - I know some people slate the Royal Mail but that's impressive!

It's good to hear that her school is encouraging sports and i'm sure that it's made a lot of her friends envious that she's been somewhere exotic running (when I was younger - anyway outside of the UK seemed exotic!).

I would smack you on the wrist for attending the running group but I secretly want to know how you got on...image

I'm heading out tomorrow morning for a little 5 miler just to test out my new shoes image

Not yet chownsie but will look out for him now.

Nice 10km in perfect weather tonight around Arthur's seat with loads out.

Up at KOC tomorrow for a recovery so work doesn't get in the way.

Steve, despite the webpage, I think you can get into yellow for the asking. Drop them an email explaining you've chosen the wrong colour and asking them to move you. Maybe some of last year's yellow/red will confirm but I don't remember  any of them being asked to produce anything. Preferential, well that's different...

You can change your colour at the Expo so , if you get knocked back now, have another go. For anyone whose training goes better, or worse, than expected, head for the desk marked’ Litiges’, near the point where you pick up your number. They will mark your bib with the ‘ new’ colour. You will not be allowed into a different ‘ pen’ on Sunday morning unless you’ve had your ‘ bib’ endorsed at the Expo.

Emmy - I used to use stabils, but since getting my orthotics have moved to nike......although I just got addidas kandida's and I am rather impressed with them.........they look nice anyway!!!

    Running group - 1 mile warm up 5 x 0.5 mile hill reps 1 mile cd.........imageimageimage

Thanks ATM, I'll try that tomorrow. At about 19 miles today I debated trying to dip under 3h15m, but I would have never managed it. 3h18m was more than good enough for me today - 17 mins off the PB! Could I do sub 3 in Paris?! Here's hoping!!
  • Options

Dani - Can you feel it in the morning when you get out of bed, then it eases up as you get moving? I might have something similar, although I feel it when I start running, then it comes and goes till about mile 10, then it goes. Doesn't affect pace. Physio says I need to work on core stability. Although, to be fair, he says that for everything. Niggle in your left calf you say? - you need to work on your core stability more. You're having bother with your metatarsals? - do some core exercises. Your car's broken down? - do some core exercises.

Oh, and welcome to the thread  and well done on Dublin, Steve. Paris is flat..It's an easier course. And TD will be along to lick you into shape before long..image

Message me and I'll send you some stuff about the course. I go at sightseeing pace so have had plenty of time to look at it closely..

Emmy_H - yes, an emergency pack of stroop wafels and some of those chcolates would be great!

The GSR t-shirts are made only to give really badly chaffed nipples, horrible things!

SR you'll note him as the only white guy in a race in Kenya, was in the top 4 GB marathon runners at the time and came last I thick!

I'm gutted I'm not at Paris, seeing the list brings back so many great memories...

I have never tasted one of these Stroop things you're banging on about....clearly I have lived a half life, shrouded in gloom.

I'm off for my ChildLine shift, properly fired up having just watched the Exposure programme about Jimmy Savile that I recorded a few weeks ago....

My car could go with some core exercises. It's got all uppity on me and has issues with its bushes apparently...

I was going to go to the gym after work tomorrow...but have got an invite to go out...hmm, post marathon dilemmas...maybe I'll get back into it next weekimage
