You don't need much else...   I spend my life looking at other peoples houses and I'd make a guess that most people have more things than they really need....

Keep it simple..  keep it minimal...  keep smiling and enjoy it.

    PF -great news indeed!

TD - as DV says, keep it minimalist.  (PS Dont tell MrsD I sais that - she'll pitch out 90% of our stuff)

    Yay PF - great news

PF - good news, but you know your body better than the doctors, so you'll be sensible, especially if it's hot?

OK, here's the ITLR digestion, split into two posts, one about people and one about running. First the people. I wanted to comment on all the threaders who were there.

TD - for spending so much time and energy on the project over the last few months, and donating his last remaining shreds of sanity  (I have the photos of you standing on your head in a shopping trolley)

Emmy - for being rock solid on the running, and especially on the bike, and for all the social media stuff. As well as the comment, when we set off at 2pm 'who do they  send to grind out the miles in the hottest part of the day? The Scot and the redhead...'

Weedy - for a uncomplainingly running whatever was asked of him, even when he ended up doing double the mileage, for always being there on the bike, for tirelesly staying up late to write the reports for the website and post the photos, and still being up first to make the tea.

Iain - for being the voice of reason, for his expertise in battlefield surgery (although I think I might throw those tweezers out now), and for the drugs, obviously.

Helterskelter - for her superlative tent-erecting skills, and being another person who got the giggles at inappropriate moments.

DLR - for bringing fresh legs to Frankfurt, and for keeping us up to date with his various experiments, successful and otherwise, in nipple protection.

Suzy - for turning up in the hope of being able to do a few kms with a dodgy knee, and putting in a storming performance, held together only with multi-coloured tape.

Cheers guys, it was a privilege to run with you all.

    Part 2 - running observations.

The main issue was the heat. Even in Central Europe in midsummer temperatures of 40 degrees plus are unusual. We cut back the lengths of the runs after the first few days so that people wouldn't be out as long, and aimed for 5k stretches.

However, I found for me that there's a world of difference between running a race in hot weather, and plodding along at your own pace, knowing you only have to stick out your hand for a water bottle, or that you can bale out into a minibus if necessary. I'm going to miss having a chase car on my next long run, and having Emmy singing out the window.

I also found a buff soaked in water, and re-soaked regularly, helped to keep the back of the neck cool.

Calf guards were a great help. Whether it was just psychological or they were actually physically helping, I don't know, but they certainly gave me confidence and the calf I was worried about was fine in the end.

Crunchy nut cornflakes are very easy on the stomach early in the morning and a good pre-run food. Bratwurst and sauerkraut, not so much. And Speculoos biscuits (the little gingery ones you get with your coffee) are great for carb loading.

OK, signing off from ITLR for now. Isle of Maus, anyone?

Ll2 -tthe beep might be your hr monitor telling you your heart rate has hit peak. From what I know it peaks a bit after you stop. I'll be up for the gnr along with a few others. Keep in touch andwe'll let you know where and when the meet ups are.

Pf - YAY! But as others say remember to listen to your body.

    Rr - great write up!

Td - sounds like you have the ideal mancave AND a hot young thing arriving for the weekend. What more could you want?

RR - Great report, but you've made me even more jealous that I couldn't take part! image

TD- What more do you need?!?! May the future bring you both much happiness!

Another busy evening here, and another evening of thick fog.........grrrr!  I did my tempo run on Treddie today, but I think I no longer have a treddie..........it died  just after 15k........I think it overheated!image Anyway I got 15k tempo doneimage I had 14 folk for circuit class tonight, which is good but  hard to keep a watchful eye on everyone.....image New class starting 6am on Tuesday! A few folks booked places already. Happy days but my stress levels are soaring as I try to keep a balance between work, doing everything that needs done at home and spending time with the girls. Luckily for me, Naomi likes to come and set up class with me so at least she's getting some time.......if not quality timeimage

Great news about the class Kaz.   Is this going to be near full-time for you now..?  Did you finish with the postal deliveries..?   How is the horse dog...?   Update us on hat buying for next year....!    Questions, questions.......!!

Hi DV- No classes are going to purely part-time although folk are asking about a lot more than I can commit too. image I have every intention of keeping my job, as firstly as a 'single' mum I need a guaranteed income, and secondly I don't know if I could generate enough business to live off!! Early days!

My wee dog, is ok. We had another incident 10 days ago where he literally attacked someone walking byimage Not good at all, but my fault too as his muzzle was too tight on him so I walked him  without it.......bad Kaz!! Anyway, the people didn't take action thankfully, and a lady I know altered said muzzle to fit. After another check up at the vet, the rulling is that someone has mistreated him, and we will have to be careful as obviously something is triggering this reaction. It happened, as far as we can work out, when I was away and he was in the garden during the day?? So I think its just going to take time for him to  be 'ok' again if ever.image

As for the hat buying........we haven't discussed it that much further - kindo busy!! amidst a lot of hazzles from ex's things have gotten a bi frazzled around here!! Looking into extending my house to accomodate Alex(alans disabled child) at the minute. We did discuss holidays with Alans boss on Friday night, and he said the only hols he could have are in July or at Christmas/New Year???  Kindo narrows things down a bit!!!image

Goodness I feel like I have just written a life story!!image

thanks you lovely peeps  for the encouragement.  do not fear I will be exceptionally careful & will be a lovely trott for 26.2 miles in the stunning Jersey countrysideimage.

Did my first "speed" (very loosely) session yesterday morning, in warmth of 22 degrees at 7.30 and was good .... then did Bikram Yoga session last night first double session for months and was fab.  Bikram really seems to be making a huge difference and is also teaching my body to deal with heat much better.  Should be interesting to see how I get on trotting in Provence mid august whilst away ........ (can't wait 3 weeks in provence aournd Isle sur la sorgue .... stunning ......)

RR:  sounds like you had an amazing time ... on every level ....

Oh & the Princess may well be moving to Paris next August .......... mmmmm

Kaz - it's not a image for too many people it's a image  The fact that you're increasing numbers is brilliant!!  Means people are telling other people.  You'll be the Queen of Orkney fitness in no time.  Poor doggie!  he will come right...are the people that he's taken to similar (not the little girl but her mother) in build, height etc? made common noises?  You might be able to identify a trigger.

We're all going hat buying in Paris, aren't we?  Nothing beats a french hat.

    Hi Lorry Dodger
    PF - great news

ITLR report...I've come away with so many memories

The bus stops in Bratislava that had speakers blaring out Euro dance music.
Picnicking on the banks of the Danube in Bratislava with Emmy, RR, HS and Iain.
Getting my ugly mug on Slovakian TV.
Seeing Iain coming in to the checkpoint on the first day like Omar Sharif coming out of the heat haze in Lawrence of Arabia. Stopping next to an old fashioned hand pump in a village in Austria in 36C heat, sticking my head under it and cranking away.
Taking part in TD's enforced 17-mile death march after the sat nav broke.
Coming round the corner in a village at the end of the death march and seeing HS along the street. I've never been so pleased to see a friendly face in my life.
Managing to break three pairs of sunglasses, one bike, one sat nav and various other bits and bobs along the way thanks to my general clumsiness.
    Iain running despite being ill.
    TD's energy.
Running with Emmy, RR and Iain one night in a group of nine of us.
Putting up tents with HS on the hottest day of the week.
Swimming in a lake near Frankfurt with HS on the hottest day of the week after the tents were up.
Running up a road with Emmy and the dawning realisation we were going up a motorway sliproad.
    Emmy's irrepressible enthusiasm.
TD doing a handstand in a shopping trolley in Cologne.
The Czech man who leaned out of his car window as he saw me running and asked: "Are you normal?"
HS volunteering when we needed an extra runner at short notice. She went from being asleep in a tent to sitting in a car in about ten minutes.
Hearing Emmy shouting out messages from people on the thread to RR as she ran along the road.
Being covered in glitter by a bloke at the Frankfurt Gay Pride Parade.
    Emmy's singing and dancing.
Iain keeping us all out of hospital with his warnings about the heat, as well as his open-air field hospital.
Joining an art collective in Cologne to raise awareness with them pushing women in shopping trolleys through the streets.
The bridge in Cologne with the padlocks attached. Like the one in Paris but three times as long.
Trying to keep quiet while searching for matches at 4am one morning to get the kettle going.
Watching the sun rise while waiting for the kettle to boil.
RR keeping the same pace up whatever the conditions or terrrain.
Beers with Suzy, DLR and HS in a campsite in Holland.
    DLR's nipples.
Running through the Cinquantenaire Gate in Brussels.
Having a police escort running through Brussels.
Meeting some of the children the run was helping and visiting their home.
The unwavering smiles from all the threaders along the way.
    And a few other things...

RS - Not too sure, both female and  quite tall? Wondering if its just the sudden movement thats the trigger?? Time will tell but on Tuesday, I had him out among loads of people, and he got lots of attention and all was good. Yes it is good that numbers are increasing,  but I have tried to emphasise that people need to 'book'  a space but still loads just turning up which is making things tricky and appear unorganised! an extra 6 people throws even the best planning re equipment, space etc!!

Weedy...  that is a great bunch of memories!

Weedy:  memories, from the corners of my mind ... will be with you forever ... stunning they are too...

Kaz:  bless you you doggy .. Basil is scared of everything particularly umbrellas - just stands and barks at them frantically wagging his tail in fear - then back tracks as said owner of unmbrellla/sunshade become agitated as they think he's going to bite., to hide between my legs .... the realisation that he's scared not vicious dawning on their face.  Whilst Reg just stands looking regal and as if all this fuss is about nothing ...... No idea why bas has such insecurities, but think he feels its his job to protect me ......Fab news about your classes yet another string to your bow ...

Morning all - cheers for all your emails keep 'em coming.

9 miles interval training this morning - bit hilly for that kind of workout, but i made the best of it - one of the reps ended up going part way up a steep hill. All the other reps were reasonably flat.

Great recounts from RR and Weedy. You guys had a ruddy marvelous experience together. Any other gossip you've failed to mention? image

Weedy and RR - great notes and memories of ITLR.

ITLR - Since getting home Tuesday evening I have been processing the trip. It was very difficult - and at some point (probably on the first Monday) became simply about survival for me. The only way we were able to do it - simply to survive - was by being together. My fellow threaders showed themselves to be exemplary people in their abilities to do so - to go above and beyond the call of duty, with humour still intact, despite illness and ardour.

Again, all this was put into perspective with the sobering and encouraging visit to the squat in St Josse on Monday at the end of the run. The people there - the biggest squat in Europe - were positive, even joyful, and the kids were incredible. I hope the money raised will be of great help giving them a start in a new life. And that's what matters.

Your support (on this thread and the facebook) meant a lot. The news about James on Sunday cast a real pallor over proceedings - such great news to hear yesterday he is doing better.

TD, RR, Weedy, HS, Emmy, Rob, Suzy - many thanks for your company, skills and friendship. I was privileged to be a part of your team.

    Iain
