(((DS2))) that must be a hard time for you. My parents are the reason I returned home to Germany so I could be with them and hopefully enjoy loads more years together. You just never know when they are taken from you.

Wow, another epic speech, Malcsimage.  I hope we can keep this thread alive because there are so many fantastic people on here image

Awesome report Malcs, SupermanRuns - couldnt agree more.

DS2 stay strong and run for your Dad, i also lost my Dad this year and words cant explain the hole it leaves in your life.

I think am dealing with it in typical bloke fashion (ie not acknowledging it has happened!) and have entered many races in order to constantly have other things on my mind!

Hope everyones taper crazies arent taking over for Sunday image

    Amazing report Malcs!!

You did so well! Really felt for you when you mentioned the calf problem - that must have been horrendous feeling it that early on ... but well done on pushing through and nailing your target!! Testamanet to your stubborness!! Well done!!

Loving the oscars speech Malcs image Have you decided where you will be along the route on Sunday?

Was planning on doing the expo today with a sneaky visit at lunchtime, but got to work this morning and realised I'd forgotten the registration form (idiot!)....so now will have to go on my way through on Saturday.

    Last run first thing tomorrow.

Weather looking great, especially that there is hardly any wind. So there really is no excuse....

Loved the run report Malcs. Thanks so much for keeping us all inspired throughout the journey. Well done for hitting your target despite the difficulties along the way. Sure you will soon be a 3:15 runner.  image

I have been off line for a few days, due to visiting the Inlaws in Worcester.

I caught up on the forum today, Great race report Malcs and final speeches, cannot believe this forum Is nearing the end image

Although we still have the London results to look forward too and it would be great if you passed 3000 posts.

Would that be another PB for most posts on the Asics262 forum?

Wow, this is all very emotional tonight reading all these race reports and about families and those special to us.

Malcs this has been an amazing thread and totally agree with supermanruns you have another career waiting for you!  I am off to Ireland for a holiday tomorrow to see family and reading some comments tonight has been be realised how lucky I am at this moment.

All the very best to those running VLM this weekend - try and let Mo win!

malcs - it has been a real pleasure image

It's getting very exciting now with so many running this weekend!

Martin - oh no, not the lurgy! Maybe it's better to have it now and get it out of the system for Sunday. Fingers crossed it'll be gone by then - don't let the taper madness tell you otherwise!

Rest up and go smash it on Sunday. Best of luck to you!

Sticky88 - many thanks indeed! And thanks for your great support all the way through on here and on Twitter, you've been a gem!

Ruffles - wow, half ironman, respect! First one or are you a seasoned campaigner?

I totally agree - definitely the beginning not the end, for us all!

SupermanRuns - you are far too kind sir! Really appreciate it!

lol, I don't know about cult followings image I've really enjoyed the process and it's been totally made by everyone else joining in.

It was great meeting you at bootcamp. You've carried yourself through this process with extreme dignity. I know what you've been through missing out at the final hurdle and you have been 100% supportive when nobody would have blamed you for walking away.

I hope you get the rewards you richly deserve in Boston and You should definitely apply next year, it's not unknown to make it through on your second attempt!image

chickadeee - totally agree, and you're one of them! You've made me laugh with your quick wit and charm. You have a knack of saying things exactly as they are and even when you have a bad run you somehow manage to keep smiling.

Feral Bob - keeping busy is not a bad way of dealing with it. You were such great fun at bootcamp and that positivity will see you through such difficult times.

Really looking forward to seeing you on Sunday, hopefully at the church, but if not at some point round the course.

RunnyRunRun - ha ha, yes, I am an awkward bugger, couldn't go stopping now could I? image  You're right, I just couldn't believe it when the calf came on. I thought that was it but thankfully it was manageable.

I was trying to get at least one of my reports at least half the length of your average. If I managed that then I'll be happy image You really set the bar so high with your enthusiasm and commitment last year.

Thanks for all the help you've given me behind the scenes! See you on Sunday! image

Freemers - many thanks indeed. Thank you too for taking the time to post here. It's been great hearing about all your training as you're currently sitting right where I want to be. You've been so encouraging and helpful, can't thank you enough!

I will be working out a spectator plan tomorrow then I will post it here. Will you be coming to the Church for a quick hello around 8:30?

Fairyclogs - many thanks indeed! I hope you're right. I know I have it in me but there's alot of work to do yet. Very best of luck to you and thanks for posting here!

reikirabbit - cheers! Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday as well. Hopefully there will be a big group. Thanks for all your lovely encouragement and support. I know you've been on the other threads as well which is so nice of you!

Sean - I know, I can't believe it either. But I'm not going anywhere just yet. In fact I may just chain myself to the railings for a bitimage

I'm certainly here to see the London posse through Sunday and the glory that I know will follow for them.

lol - dunno about a PB for posts. If it is then it's all down to you lot! image

lol, "lot Mo win", love it! I'm sure the others will oblige but not sure Angela's competitive spirit will allow her to give him an inchimage

Have a great trip to Ireland!

Evening, I read through your report again Malcs, I remember the water stations, it was like a scrum, Mrs P had warned me about the orange skins. I'll be reading it again a few times before Sunday too! Very inspiring

I went to the Expo on Wednesday, I just got there as Haile was finishing the opening speech. I got my number, and the boss's, had a quick look round and got back to Euston in time for a quick cup of tea before getting on the train home and I was back in the office for 4:30. We are both in pen 4 so bring it on image.

So, everything in place, tickets, hotel confirmed, kit all clean, number and chip ready. Few things to do at work tomorrow that I mighht not get done on Monday, then a ten o clock train on Saturday.

so looking forward to meeting everyone on Sunday, I hope it's a fine morning.

Hi Malcs! I hope the recovery is going great! I really enjoyed reading your report and going back to what has been a really special weekend. It's been a pleasure to share it with you!! You did great in difficult circumstances. I see a lot of orange skins survivers here as well, it was like an ice rink!

Best of luck to those doing London Marathon this Sunday and a special mention to DS2.

I will be in the crowds, I think around London Bridge. Enjoy!!!!

Good luck to everyone this weekend!! I'll be cheering at Blackfriars but not trying to sprint across a city this time (although my leg actually feels better for it).

Excellent write-up Malcs and well done once again, you have been a star throughout this process and I hope you are recovering well.

I think I can round up the sponsorship a notch or two - did you have a justgiving link?

Angela - lol, I don't think any of us would doubt you could have him!

Thanks for being part of this. Despite changing jobs, planning weddings, mentoring and a host of other things I just don't know how you find time to do, you've still been on here daily with words of encouragement, inspiring us all with your amazing grit and determination.

Sean - let's do it! Well, maybe we should wait for the comp to open first but they do say you should market in advance of product launch so August/Sept may be a good time to book the tour bus image

Thanks for all your help, you've been brilliant both here and on Twitter! Whenever I've faced tough conditions on a run, you've always had tougher - I think you've secretly been putting yourself through the mill just to make me feel better image

isabelabos - thanks, you've been amazing the whole way through, from the day we met on the platform in New Street to the very end I don't think you've stopped smiling. Congratulations on your Angela-esque PB decimation. I think sub 4 is very much next on the cards for you!

ArrowsLou - many thanks indeed! I had a blast with you and the others at bootcamp. I was so sorry to see you pick up an injury early in training but despite this you've been here supporting me all the way.

The honey at Spitfire was an incredibly nice gesture. Thanks so much for that!

(link is www.justgiving.com/malcsparis very kind of you...again! image )

Stan - I beilive we're looking at 8:15-8:45 with dispersal by 9am, depending on how much time you want in the start area.

As a 2013 bootcamper it's so nice to see you sticking around. You've been amazingly supportive both here and on the 2013 thread. Really looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

PC - lol, hmm that's not a bad idea! image

You're not escaping the thank you's either. Don't think I've forgotten all the help you gave me as chief whip for the voting and the support thereafter as well. I'm still annoyed that I didn't get to see you in Paris! Next time for sure!

The roll call for the church bench meet up between 8:15 and 8:45 on Sunday is shown below. Let me know if I missed anyone!

Me! image Angela, DS2, Mr P, Rachelcgen, reikirabbit, Jenf, RunnyRunRun, Tigger, Stan

Dd1969, Runbikecat would be great to see you too!

Freemers, I know Minni is likely to go straight to the start. Would be lovely to see you at the Church if you can make it. If not I hope to see you en route or in the Chandos.

Shady Ady - are you able to join us or do pacing duties make this unlikely?

Bag is packed, boarding card printed, last foam roll completed  final coffee before heading off to Glasgow Airport for the 2.10 flight to London City

Can't decide on xpo on arrival or tomorrow morning, will decide on the plane, my hotel is close to Liverpool St station.

I know I am starting at Greenwich so if that is the church location I will try to make it for the meet up, not even looked at how to get to the start line yet

Sean R5 Thanks for the support image  appreciate it.

Malcs did we agree on a £1 for every minute under 3.30 for the charity?  Only how do I get change.imageimageimageimage

All donated and very well done. A double awesome effort.

I'm on the train down to London and saved Malcs report to read en route.

Malcs - you're a brilliant guy, that was a brilliant report and you ran a brilliant marathon. Steve was top man for giving you his support and help stopping those fears of the calf and stomach escalating but you ran the race. You showed that mental strength that I'm sure you always had hidden and used it at the right time.

It has been such a pleasure following your journey and you've put a lot into making everyone feel part of it. I feel very proud of you!

I reckon you've learnt a lot from this journey and from the marathon itself and there's a lot more to come. Can't wait to see you perform in York (oo-er...).

Very, very well done again. x

SupermanRuns - hahaha - yes I thought that re the donations - luckily for Malcs I have already donated prior to Parisimage

Malcs - not sure I had it harder than you, fortunately yet again I managed to get through training with just a few niggles and no major injuries.

And I will say it once again, the only reason I ran a marathon this spring, is due to following this forum and not wanting to be the odd one out!!!

Would love to meet up with all you guys at London, but yet again it I am working nights this weekend image However it would be great to catch up sometime in the future.

Good luck to all those running London, especially DS2, despite your doubts, I know that you are bound to smash under 3:30.

Malcs - I will probably go straight to the start....I need plenty of time to queue for the loos (I think they are the worst on the green start!)....but I'll be in Chandos afterwards so hopefully see you then image

Last run done....4 miles with a few half-hearted strides. Now eating lots of carbs....really looking forward to OH's spag bol tonight image

Feral Bob - arghh! I did know you were coming honest! Can't believe I left you off the list (slaps wrist!) image

Dd1969 - by that do you mean inside Greenwich park? Pretty sure that's the Red start. The church is on Blackheath common so best to go to Blackheath station. You can walk to all the starts from there. Heck, I'll happily escort you myself image

SupermanRuns - lol image Thanks very much indeed, very generous as your change would have been quite significant!

Minni - aw, that is so nice of you!

You've been on my side since bootcamp last year and I've had so much help and advice from you along the way which has completely changed my outlook on what might be possible.

It was brilliant to have your enthusiastic support through the voting and I know you were very excited to see what Steve could do with me.

Even when you've had the odd rocky patch you've always been there to offer words of wisdom and encouragement. Can't thank you enough!

Freemers - no problem at all, completely understand. Hope to see you after. I will be posting where I hope to be supporting later today or tomorrow so do pop back as I'd hate to miss anyone as they fly past.

Def. going to Rotherhithe on the right hand side near 10 miles. I will have the Swiss Flag with me so look out for it!

Sean - that's great to hear, it's been brilliant! Training and running alone is just not the same.

When I offered to do the mentoring I hoped I'd get either you or Sarah as I could see you both had loads of potential. You did really well in Paris and I'm convinced without that pesky calf you would have got closer to 3:20, especially since you kept a good pace. Next time. image
