Andy, Roger - well done both of you on your fantastic 5ks; those are times I could only dream of at the moment.
A slow 20 for me today. The injury is feeling okay - I don't feel like it's holding me back too much. Fitness is obviously the big issue. Although I felt reasonably comfortable being on my feet for 2hrs 50mins, is was disheartening to NOT feel like I was running slowly - which 8:30 min/miling usually would, especially as I should still be pretty fresh. As a result, I genuinely have no idea what pace to try run the marathon in. Maybe it's a confidence thing, but I was struggling to imagine doing 26.2M in anything quicker than the pace I was going at this morning. I guess there are no shortcuts when it comes to regaining speed and fitness...!
Cook box 20 miles is a good long run. Well done. Must be a bit frustrating for you.
My canary yellow race vest and shorts arrive yesterday, just in time for my last 'long' run so I could test it out. Feels great. I think the bright colour will help the team spot me in the race. See tweet of pic @chiroroger
Very bright kit, I look like a canary, hopefully it didn't get eaten by the washing machine.
feeling good today, massage and a chiropractic adjustmenI! And a busy day of charging e around and still singlehanded lay trying to put big pharmaceutical companies out of business!
Steve, I have a tickly cough and slight postnasal drip which had me coughing half the night, I feel fine, seems to be more at night time. Do you suggest I do the 200's today or skip? on the one hand it is an easy session on the other I would hate for this to develope?
Very glad to hear Roger did the right thing. No risks!!
An encouraging one for me tonight - did a 12M progression run and found myself able to sustain some decent pace for the first time since returning from injury just over two weeks ago. Not usually advisable to be doing that sort of session this close to a marathon, I know, but given how much training I've missed I feel like it's the lesser of two evils.
Just thought I'd pop over to wish you good luck for the weekend Roger. You've done some great training and put in the hard yards, time to put it to good use!
Thanks Ruth KR AW, Rob, DS2 for all the well wishes, I am feeling great. sleeping well after a little scare on monday night, I feel it was the right thing to do skipping Tuesday, managed to sneak in the 200's session yesterday no problems.
Ready to Race and very excited about the trip and enjoying the JOURNEY!
Good to hear Cookbox, I hope you continue to progress and have a great VLM. I will post my runs when I get the chance but pretty mnuch did what I was told:0
Really good luck for Sunday Roger, you are so ready get the pacing right listen to Steve and you'll smash it. Enjoy the whole experience. Can't wait to see the results and will be following you all the way. Hard work is done relax a bit now!!!
Thanks Sarah, Andy, cookbox and Ruth. All packed, just about. Check my lists and still need to pick up bagels Nearly ready. Trying not to forget anything. I am looking forward to it now. Follow advice and enjoy and relax.
weather looks not too bad in Paris - cloudy maybe 12-13 degrees at start and maybe 15 at finish - could be humid though.
Roger didn't carb load tonight unlike the others as I think the theory is he will be racing such a short time, he will only need one day's carbo loading!
Thanks Weedy, cc2 yes it is VERY exciting, I have my race number and went out for a really good pizza last night, I start my carb load now and Will eat and hydrate well today while I prepare mentally for the race of my life! I am feeling quite calm and focused.
Roundman, I hope you are here in one piece, good luck, I will see you at the start. Weedy, you are here too running too me thinks, good luck to you too have a smashing race.
good news about the weather, hopefully not too humid.
Well my friends the time has come, I am all carbed to the gills, well hydrated. Ready for a good nights sleep and looking forward to a great race tomorrow. Thank you all for the comeraderie, support, encouragement and advice though this journey, I couldn't have done it without you. Those that are racing, have fun, race strong. I will see you on the other side.
