I'm in. This will be my first. Assuming i get a place...which lets face it, is unlikely.
Why do they ask the 'what's your fastest marathon time' question? Is it so they make sure you can do the distance? Seems an odd question, everyone has to start somewhere.
jazz- so they can place you in an appropriate start pen. Its a bit more accurate than most of the answers they get to the 'How long do you think it might take' type question.
I thought the ballot opened at 9 today not midnight been trying to get on since 9 and realised about 30 mins ago it was already closed. did this year for charity and still pushing to raise another £600 to make to £2000 which has been toughter than the marathon ! - so no doing that again next year .... !!!
Anyone know what happens to the places that are offered in October but people don't take up (pay for)?
I think these might get taken up by the extra 1000 ballot places that those who donate their entry fee go into. I applied at 6.30 and got in the ballot. Doubt if I will get a place though. Didn't donate my entry fee either.
If you are looking for a charity place try VICTA. They were the lowest fundraise amount at 1250 exc of gift aid, however my 100 entry fee came off that total.
I was one of the lucky few and got a place in the ballot for this years race, however i chose to run for NSPCC,i,ve never run for a charity before so i have no basis for comparison but i must say i would find it hard to imagine another charity beating the support they give, that includes the weeks leading up,the race itself and the post race party. I think they do ask for an eye watering ??2000 in sponsorship though
I think that asking to raise over ??2000 is a big ask to raise for a lot of people now a days and still concentrate on getting the training done as well.
Is that 2000 inc or exc of gift aid? There is a big difference between the two. I had to raise 1250 exc and found it pretty easy. Hit target end of January and just kept posting on Facebook and e mail in work. I'm on 1999.10 now inc of gift aid.
I've never asked for sponsorship before and won't again.
I'm in the ballot, entered my misses Too. I've also enter Paris and been offered a cheaper place, but read on here it doesn't sell out till after October so might hold out til after I find out about london. Ive ran 3 marathons so far manchester twice and chester.
i don't think I could raise 1500 for a charity place, as I raise money quite a lot for other races so I think it's cheeky asking all the time.
It does my head in on Facebook etc, when people that don't run enter and take up places in ballot

I was up and on line at 1 am and could not get through , bit miffed, tried for over 1 hour.
Missed it due to the IE explorer issue. Annoying but no doubt would not have got in anyway, like every other year.....sigh
i got mine in 80mins at 5am this morning
I had my email immediately and so did my son.
We're both in the ballot - again. We'll both probably get the usual "Dear John" magazine and email in October.....
does anyone apply to more than one charity or is that a no-no?

i think manchester is always going to be my backup until I strike it lucky in the ballot/charity sweepstake or run 3:14:xx.
