Nels - on my way back, via Trondheim. Very strange, running a race at night, in daylight! I'd love to go back again sometime and have a proper holiday in that part of the world. Beautiful scenery, lots of outdoorsy things to do, and fewer mosquitoes than I expected. Lovely to see many familiar faces from this thread, and to see a few friends up at the pointy end of the race. That was the last of my 'training run' races - next one will be Race to the Stones next month, which is my big race for spring/summer 2016.

I made if back from Tromso. Based on the travelling involved it's certainly more difficult to get to and further away than you'd think. I was roughly 12 hours each way from door to door. That's the equivalent of travelling to east coast USA!

I had a great time over there. Always good to catch up with friends from here. Lovely part of the world..

I'm reasonably happy with my time. I ran faster than at Copenhagen last month, but was never really in a position to run the time I wanted. I don't think I got my eating right on the day, had a few stomach issues early on. I also suffered all through the second half of the race with tight hamstrings. Either I wasn't in the shape I thought I was, the day of travel the day before took it out me, or I hadn't fully recovered from being an idiot and gunning for it in the heat of Copenhagen four weeks earlier. Still it goes down as my third fastest marathon, which is a bonus when I know that run was far from perfect.

Good event. The route is a mixed bag. I enjoyed the first half of the course. The later section out and back to the airport isn't particularly interesting though. Glad to have ticked that one off the bucket list.

Loved Tromso, loved spending time with everyone, love the Norweigans, loved the Cinnamon buns and the reindeer bits, hated the horrendous travel delays everywhere image

Sub 4 was the aim, happy to have done that ??? ditching HRM for future runs.

    Take care all xx

Well done at Tronso you crazy midsummer marathon maniacs ... hats off to Mr HIAHS for a juicy PB, as well as me clubmate Jake who, for a while, has been gunning for a c.3 hour marathon / London GFA time and he finally put a good one together on the day and bagged a 3.02 and 15th overall. He got his GFA application in on the last day and got his acceptance so job done. Put him on a fast course like London, Berlin, Amsterdam or Valencia and I reckon you knock another 5 mins off for sure.

I've been taking part in various track races with varying results. Short stuff is not really my bag, but you get a chance to run an even paced hard tempo run on a track 5000. Friday evening I have the 10,000 which is a little more tricky .... a second a lap can make or break your race. I'll just try to run it even and put it down as good training. I had a good 10k at Bupa London recently in 38.24.

List Fairly please put me down for:

    Cardiff Half - Oct 2nd 2016

    Reading Half - March 19th 2017

    London Marathon - April 23rd 2017

    Vitality 10,000 - May 29th 2017

Hi Nell, yes I will be running the Black Country half on the Saturday morning and if England win will start travelling sat afternon to Paris. Not going today as a long journey and my son and friends have no holidays left to useimage

I did the Donnington 10 miles yesterday around the race track (4 laps) and did not realise how many hills there was on a race circuit and there was a strong wind against you every time you came down the finishing straight. I finished in 1:18 which is a bit slower pace than I had been doing which I put down to a quite hard run and little running done over the last couple of weeks.

Hope you feel better soon Nells and everyone had a good weekend whatever you were doing.

Hi all, just checking in now I'm fully over Paris and have planned a new (minimalist) race schedule to hit my goals.

    List Fairy, please...

    • Men's 10k Edinburgh: 06/11/2016
    • Alloa Half: 19/03/2017
    • Hamburg Marathon: 23/04/2017

Hope everybody is doing well... only 18 pages so far!

The Alloa half is open already! I've still not gotten around to running that one yet.

  • Options
    KennyMKennyM ✭✭✭

No, it's not open but the date has been announced... I did it 2 years ago and it's probably overall my best performance.

A few short climbs (including one near the end which almost killed me) but fairly flat overall.  There's a great long straight bit in wonderful countryside which seemed to add to overall speed.  Definite PB potential plus well organised and decent tee-shirts (tend to be very bright and bold if you like that sort of thing!)

  • Options
    Eggyh73Eggyh73 ✭✭✭

I might try and get a place for it next year. Sounds like it could work out well timing wise for Paris.

Hello everyone.  I've not been here for a while.  I've been fighting an insertional Achilles problem in my left leg.  It has won and I'm out of race to the stones.  I've done lots of physio and it hasn't helped much.  I'm getting refered to a specialist on the NHS now.  No races planned now until Autumn.

List fairy, please put me down for the Oxford Half on 9th October.  This is where I am planning my comeback.  Going to work on the strength in my hamstrings and calves.

I probably had this issue in Paris and didn't realise this was the cause of most of my pain.

Thinking long and hard about a spring marathon now.  I feel I have a score to settle with Paris, but thinking about staying closer to home also.  Don't know.  Open to suggestions!

You know Paris makes sense! image

I can't help with UK based marathons at that time of year. The only two I've done are London, not exactly easy to get in to. Edinburgh, which I wouldn't recommend at all.

    The JimbobThe Jimbob ✭✭✭

Hamburg has always appealed, I've been a few times and it is so quick to get to from Heathrow ... the problem for me has always been it clashes with London and Paris. So many good races all crammed into a 6 week period.

I'm nursing a sore leg , I pulled a muscle running up a grassy bank awkwardly, so this week of high mileage / easy pace will be now be average amount of mileage / easy pace ... taking a couple of days extra rest, with the usual Rest Ice Compression Elevation

  • Options
    TBO2TBO2 ✭✭✭

Kenno, Jimbob, Nells hope you get better soon.

The weather is not helping-what happened to the summer?

  • Options
    NellsNells ✭✭✭

Thanks TBO2. Cold seems to be clearing as quickly as it arrived, managed a 6 mile trot last night that was about as good as I usually manage these days at the best of times. Going to try and fit in a quick (ha!) 4 miles in a bit to try and burn off some pre-footy nervous energy. I have everything crossed for tonight - it's the only thing that's given me any reason to be cheerful this week in the midst of the bonkers politics, useless weather, snot fest and the most boring batch of work I've had for a long long time. Glad to be able to blow some cobwebs away anyway (possibly literally today going by the gusts about at the moment), hope your leg gets better soon Jimbob and good luck with the NHS referral Kenno.
