Fingers and toes crossed Ale. Great efforts Dave, WP and TS Just about to land in Sydney on way back home (in flight wifi!). No running for a few days ☹️
Good conditions again; 6c, bright, negligible wind. I had considered being dropped off nearer to base for the usual Tues point to point, given how legs were yesterday. However, a splendidly replenishing pub meal (fish and chips) last evening convinced to give the 6.5 miles a try. Called it just about right - all comfy at trundle pace until the last half mile (uphill), when tiredness set in.
So...not sure how much further forward I am; scan has revealed a 6cm tear of the semimembranosus hamstring tendon, approximately 5cm from the origin. My friendly consultant has referred me onwards to a hamstring specialist and hopefully I will have a further telephone consultation in the near future.
Wordle in five...although had the last four letters in two!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
alehouse that sounds nasty - tendon damage is so much more difficult to treat than soft tissue
Here's hoping!!
Dave nice introduction for your newcomer particularly 3x800m !!
another day of early meetings so no run and then Mrs TS to see consultant this pm. They are booking her in for an early op to remove the metalwork in her knee - just waiting on a date now.
We are away tomorrow for the weekend for another Crufts show with our g'daughter competing again with her dog.
Wordle in four. Had hoped to speak with consultant but he had an emergency to deal with. Probably called to India to rescue the England cricket team. Not sure that he could do much worse.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Ale: Tendon tear not so good indeed. Will have been frustrating not being able to get clarification from the specialist today re injury and prognosis. Dave: Good to see the training numbers still up. TS: Best wishes to g'daughter & dog
Back on home turf yesterday - 8.3 km around estuary (6:08 ave) with half a dozen strides thrown in. Both upper calves quite stiff in the afternoon & evening. Didn't anticipate that as had been running reasonably regularly while on holiday. No run this morning - up too late & too much to catch up on!
Yes, NZD, yesterday was a little frustrating! However, consultant phoned at 7:40 this morning and we had a good chat. Following a discussion about me with other consultants yesterday they are referring me to a guy in London for his opinion.
Oh to be running by the estuary...or anywhere.
Wordle in three.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Seems a bit like 'kicked down the road', Ale. But probably worth it to get one of the top specialists on the job. Dave, not surprising your legs were tired after the last few days.
No parkrun. Last minute g'kids sleepover - then to be dressed, breakfasted, and picked up at 8:20 this morning to go 'bouldering' with dad and a few of his workmates! Downunder parkruns start at 8am, so kind of ruled that out.
Instead did a 'comfortable' late morning run on local roads (rural) & footpaths (urban), with a couple of hills to keep it from being boring. Total 74 min (11.11 km), EG 219 m.
16.3 km double estuary loop here this morning. A bit faster than intended (6:11). Suspect I will feel it in the legs later this afternoon, or in the morning.
Week total 35.7 km (plus visiting relatives in, and travelling from Perth, etc!)
Yes, decent week, Birch. And given the tourism, a decent week, also, NZD.
Helped at uni cross country championships then a curry with students followed by giving out prizes at the AGM that followed. Helps to keep me young, hopefully!
Wordle: six.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Saturday sounds as good a day as it could be alehouse, without being able to run yourself. Hope tomorrow brings some kind of encouragement.
Legs ok, NZD? Pretty much matched your effort this morning (but not faster then intended), with 10 miles bagged. Undulating point to point route, another cold grey day.
Ale, hope that was a positive change in mood you heard! And good to see you keeping involved in a very positive way. Well matched, Dave. Not that I will be attempting to match your weekly totals any time soon though 😕.
Surprisingly legs were OK following my weekend 11 + 16 efforts. Shorter 8.3 km estuary run early this morning (~6:50am, sky only just starting to lighten. About earliest ever for me). Again faster than I should have run (6:02), with ave HR at 131. Must be more disciplined on what should be slow / easy pace training runs!

Ticking along nicely Birch and NZD! Shame I can't join you for the quicker stuff this morning, Birch!
Appointment has come through with the consultant in London: next Thursday. And tomorrow am seeing a physio closer to home to advise what I can and can't do at present.
Have managed a little cross training in the garden, and will work the upper body later!
Off to Wordle...
Edit: five today, four yesterday.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
Yes back thanks. No great news to report unfortunately Ronnie (the dog) just didn't like the indoor arena. He normally competes in open air events on grass and it was all a bit strange to him, so instead of barking joyfully when released to run and hurtling into the event, he sort of ambled around a bit looking not very engaged at all.
Typical diva stuff after being awarded best gundog of the year a short while before Crufts!!
G'daughter did have success with another dog she helps train claiming a clear round and a fifth pace overall in the pairs competition.
Seeing the whole exhibition makes one realise just how huge the dog industry is!!
alehouse gardening sounds tricky - hope you get a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan shortly.
I was at meetings all day Monday and Tuesday and my mood on just getting back in for the match was not improved by the abysmal performance of the Toon against Chelsea, despite scoring two excellent goals, as the rest of it was a comedy of errors - from both sides!!!
Dave Continued great mileage well done
NZD Ditto - good efforts after all your travelling as well
a return to shambling this morning after many days off.
2.15 miles at 12:36/m/m pace with HR 126/141 as I tried and failed to keep within Garmin's suggested run of 28 min at 13:16m/m pace
Wordle in four today.
Disaster struck whilst away as I completed Wordle in the hotel on my phone, normally do it on my laptop. It again failed to synch with my account and so I lost my streak which stretched back forever - I am now on 4!!!
Seems Crufts was enjoyed, TS (apart from Ronnie)! Incredible exploits by CH . . . Shame about your Wordle streak. You probably needed that "shakeout" run after a few days off?
Well done with the lbs shedding, WP. Wet and windy 8 is a decent effort.
Windy here but not wet thankfully, Sorry alehouse indisposed, so a group of six for the speed workout. 3x400m, 3x600m, 3x400m - 5 miles with the warmup/down. Legs a bit creaky.
TS: Best gundog of the year award sounds achievement enough. That cake didn't need icing. Good to see you are still managing the longer distance, despite the week off. Toe on the mend? Dave: All six repeat attendees? Ale: Must be a relief that the specialist appointments seem to coming at a blistering pace. Presumably not on the National Health Service!
A bit more discipline this morning. Achieved by having watch set with HR rather than pace as the main display. Targeted & achieved 122 average over 13.1 km @ 6:30. Despite that, didn't seem any more comfortable than the 6:02 pace (HR 131) a couple of days ago. Probably due to constantly watching HR ...!?
WP your pace will be going up after that weight loss - or at least less energy expended. Don't believe me? Try putting a haversack on your back with 14lbs of weight in it and then running!!
Dave goodly session - despite creaky legs!
NZD The dog doesn't care what he does - normally he is just happy being out there and you still get a big welcome from him afterwards
Yup - watching ones HR makes it go up!! I thought that was 13.1 miles at first glance - a more significant distance! Still a good effort at HR control and those slower base runs do improve aerobic efficiency even if they don't feel like it at the time.
Toe still throbbing a bit and knee still wobbly but managed 2 miles at 12:10m/m pace with HR 123/141 as an easy outing - mild but windy.
The good news is that Mrs TS saw her hip consultant he declared himself delighted with progress and result of the op and she is now signed off for a year unless there is any problem in which case to ring up and he will see her immediately. Excellent bloke
Now onto her knee and removal of metalwork which has been scheduled as trauma work to be done asap!
wordle in six - lost the desire after my streak was ended - it was about as long as alehouse's lapsed running streak - although he gets more sympathy for that particular loss
Comments
Wordle in five.
Great efforts Dave, WP and TS
Just about to land in Sydney on way back home (in flight wifi!). No running for a few days ☹️
naw - that's too painful for me
NZD
travel safe and recover well.
Off at 0630 in the morning so I will skip the early morning run
One of the hasheres has got to 1100 runs so I may go along to do the presentation tomorrow night - and drink some beer!!
However, a splendidly replenishing pub meal (fish and chips) last evening convinced to give the 6.5 miles a try. Called it just about right - all comfy at trundle pace until the last half mile (uphill), when tiredness set in.
Enjoy the beer later, TS.
thinking of alehouse . . . .

good call
and good carbo loading the night before!
alehouse
ouch - that sounds nasty and so high up as well it's almost into tendon territory rather than muscle.
didn't get back until late last night so no Hash (or beer!) anf off early again today - just back.
Wordle in six yesterday - although had the last four letters in two!!
Wordle in six again today -- barrel scraping
Hope that the speedwork was well attended and you all worked hard, Birch!
Wordle in three today!
Hope you get a run tomorrow, TS (and beer)?
Seven there today, alehouse, including one newcomer - all worked hard, I think
2x400m, 3x800m, 2x400m ; 5 miles with the pre and post jogging etc.
Wordle same as TS yesterday (had last four in three). Same as alehouse today.
Alehouse later this evening . . . .
Dave

6.5 miles yesterday. A very tired legged 3 today.
