Just over 9 weeks to go for this now. My pace is down from the same time last year by about 20-30 sec per mile, so it looks like a PB is not on this year for me. I think I'll be aiming for around 1hr45.
How's everyone's traing going?
Wrinty - How was the Walt Disney marathon - I read an article on this once, and it looked like a good one.
BD, Just got from Florida this morning where I did the WDW Marathon last sunday. Disappointed not to break 3hours (3:25:08 for 291st place out of 10,000+) the wheels came off at 16 miles despite a kiss from Elasti-Girl and then I hit the wall at 20miles taking 65minutes to cover the final 6 miles (far too much walking). But what a race to be a part of, weaving through all four Disney theme parks with almost unbroken entertainment and support for the full 26miles. Anyway that is my last ever Marathon (ever ever - honestly this time) and my last race as a thirty something. I am going to rest for another week and then start my training for Bath.
I'm back in the land of the optimistic again, and starting to look forward to Bath once more. It's been a torrid 3 months trying to fix a niggle, but I've just done a 20 miler and (touch wood), well you know what I mean.
Wrinty, Not So much Speeding but in training for the FLM... I'm Doin Fine thanks, you? I ran the Lliswerry 8 last Sunday PB'd it but still gutted not to get in under the Hour! (61:22) There is always next year... I am only planning on this and the Gloucester 20, before the FLM. What have you been up to? If I remember you were suffering with knee pain I think?...
Just taken one of the RW extra places for this and then read the reviews which are not very complimentary. Was hoping for a scenic jog around Bath but it sounds like 2 laps of an industrial/housing estate on the outskirts?
M Diddy, Don't believe everything you read ! There's a group out there who take pleasure in 'sledging' the Bath Half, but if the course was that bad we wouldn't sell out year on year, and this year we celebrate our 25th anniversary. We have a lot of loyal supporters who love this race and come back each year, they're quiet modest folk and don't talk about it much. It's a good honest flat course, with a history of fast times, some pretty bits and some not so pretty bits - like every other race. In our case the pretty bits (the start/finish, Green Park, Queen Square) happen to be at the centre of the Georgian City of Bath - a World Heritage site - pretty inspirational - the rest of the course follows both sides of the Avon valley - nice and flat ! Make up your own mind & let us know what you think after March 19th !!
Thank's Race Director. I did wonder about some comments as you don't sell out a race so quickly as you say if the product is not up to much. Am looking forward to this and hope to set a PB.
Is that closest to Hilly's time or closest to their own anticipated time?
I will go for 1:25:00 but reserve the right to grumble about uninspiring courses, multiple laps and anything else that I can think of relating to Aero bars if I don't exceed my timing expectations:-)
This will be my fifth Bath Half and have managed declining times every year that I have toed the lined: 1:26 in 1999; 1:27 in 2000; 1:28 in 2002 and 1:29 in 2004. So I have to look for something to blame other than my bodies reluctance to perform over the distance.
I was opening the book on guessing Hilly's finishing time. I predict that she'll beat me this year, 'cos she's flying. Something to do with training harder than me...
Wrinty. I'm afraid you can't use any of he above suggestions as excuses. Mostly because they aren't true, but secondly because the course is the same each year.
Personally, I find the course uplifting, the crowd support fantastic (even when wet), the multi lap format provides the element of prior knowledge of the end of the route, and and and and and I'd rather have chocolate than a stick of porridge.
Anyone got any tips on how to get ready for the Half Marathon with only 5 weeks to go. I have not run seriously since Sept due to Injury and illness. I started running again this week. Or am I just mad!!!
Had a good morale boosting run today at the Babcary Road Race 7.5miles down in Somerset. Managed to squeeze under 48 minutes, which given the cold, windy conditions and the undulating course should see me on target for sub 1:25 - in just three weeks time.

See you at Bath

Let the training begin!
Well, sometime soon.
Will see you there then.
Same place as last year? ie at the top of the slope in the Rec Ground. Was it near the bogs?
You wear your running kit, I'll carry a red rose and a rolled up copy of the Runner's World
Training is going well at the moment so looking farward to this race now.
Hey Wrinty! - Long time no speak...

I didn't realise though I could've got a free entry based on race times, so will remember that next year:o)
My favourite half - it's a good race.
Hi Hilly - hope you are well. see you there.
BD
Pop me an email, if you meet our elite criteria we can refund your entry fee
PS Mr RD, Hilly has 1:26 banked now, and is screaming to pb on your route. I think it's time to open a book. Closest wins a banana.
Hilly's anticipated time for Bath =
1:23:30 - Blisters

I am looking forward to this now.
