only Barlist would argue that a DNF should be deserving of credit!
you COULD have finished, young man, i recall, but you didn't bother because you decided that you would miss the cut off. that is called "quitting", and it makes you little better than pauline radcliffe
who is andy fordham? and more to the point what strictly-no-knitting club did he ever join.
of course you should get negative credit for quitting. OK if it was a forced DNF due to hyponatraemic coma then your negative credit can be removed on appeal to the founder pirates committee (ie me, rosey and monique). monique will let you off for quitting, but me and rosey wont so there's no point bothering to appeal.
until somebody beats it (and i'm sure they will at IMDE) the standard is me at IMCH. after i couldn't walk any more at around mile 12 i had absolutely no chance of making cut off just by hopping, but i started hopping anyway, even though every single hop hurt so much it made me cry. then i invented the turbo hop and beat cut off anyway. but i still hopped 14 miles. i wouldn't ask anybody to do what i wouldn't do myself, so quitting when you have no chance of finishing gives you a minus point. i'm not saying that hopping wasn't stupid, just that it was an option, so i took it.
no arguing with the ref, or i'll deduct another credit from you, you scurvey dog.
lol, i'm sure that somebody will now be sufficiently afeared of quitting to set the new standard at IMDE
not me though, i tried to run on my gammy foot this morning and it wasn't pleasant, so i quit after 10 miles. as every week passes, i get more convinced that i broke it. stupid motorbike.
i tried power crawling but my foot was dragging on the floor and it hurt like TC's description of b*ggery. b*ggery sounds unpleasant. turbo hopping allowed me to stop banging my foot on the floor. clever, eh?
What if you hop or run or crawl as fast as you can and you still don't make the cut off and don't finish? Do you get -1 or do you get -2 for being a really slow b@st@rd?
why wouldn't you finish? see rules in post one. missing cut off but still finishing gets you the point. quitting because you think (or know) that you won't meet cut off loses you a point.
eg, see FBs targets for IMCH last year.
1 (can't remember) 2 finish 3 finish within cut off 4 (cant remember, but it was finish in such-and-such a time) 5 (cant remember that one either)# 6 win, probably
the point is that finishing came above beating the cut off. carry on, and do the distance. that's the pirate spirit. yar har.
I thought you couldn't finish if you missed the cut off. I guess it just means you don't get an 'official' finish.
I will finish then. Assuming I don't go into a hyponatraemic coma or hypovolaemic shock or anything else like that. Of course, I'm a nurse, so I should be able to self-medicate.
you're going soft candy. you can get hospitalised after the race. Berlin marathon let me continue after I knocked myself out so long as a doctor cycled along beside me. The hospital can wait. you may be able to apply for an exception in writing if you've had to pick body parts up off the ground (obviously they'll need to reattach your arm for you to write the application)
well i'm not sure. the appeals committee is me, rosey and monique. mo will let anybody off, but me and rosey are right b*st*rds so i wouldn't hold your breath.
