matt - as HeOw says consider Manchester - it is flat also, plus they have pacers which really help. I went sub 3.15 at Manchester this year and I'm not sure I would have done it without a pacer to follow.
Adrian ... Your post almost mirrors my experience. I've completed 4 halves before and I've set myself the target if Chester being my first marathon. Training been going really well, a blip over summer but then back on track. Completed last 8 mile run on Sunday and got a cold. Think I'm coming out the other side now though, well I hope I am, but no more running till the big day for me. I've been on Echinacea, paracetamol, vitamins and lots of sleep. Wishing you all the best and we will complete Chester, maybe sneezing as we go, but we'll get there
Get well soon everyone and if any of you only have symptoms above the neck (so snotty nose etc), you should be fine, if symptoms are below the neck, (i.e. phlegm or chesty cough), then I would seriously reconsider running. I say this as my cousin developed a serious heart virus and needed an emergency heart transplant and this was the advice given afterwards re training (he is a tennis coach).
Wrexham - 6 marathons a YEAR!? Bloody hell, that is a lot, I don't know how you do it.
claire, I am booked in to that restaurant you were on about, only time available is 5.30, so I will be having a bit of something later in the evening as well I think, feel free to say hello, I will probably be a gibbering wreck with nervesd though!!
Hello everyone, not posted for a while, training gone ok I think(hope). My original target was 4.15ish being my first marathon I'm feeling quite calm and not under any pressure about completing it and enjoying the time. This time last year I was just starting out about to run my first 10k having not run and drank a lot and smoked for years. In secret I am targeting 4hours but would never tell anyone.....that is until I received my race number and see a constant reminder in minutes of my target...240!!! So i will be heading out at c9m/m pace and seeing if i can hit 20miles in3 then see what happens. Definitely feel likes have had a cold brewing this week...but I'm sure it's just usual race/taper stuff. Good luck everyone and don't forget why your doing it, charity, personal achievement, pb or just like running.
Sorry Genghis and anyone else I might have offended....! I'll try and do better next time!
Cough would appear to be abating slightly although still surprisingly snotty! How many tissues can you fit down a pair of shorts to last 26 miles......?!
I still haven't decided what pace to start at, continue at or finish at. I think I've made up my mind and then I change it again.....
Am hoping to complete in 4:15 but be the happiest woman in the world if I am quicker then that but keep telling myself it's a major achievement just running a mararthon!
Claire Coney- As you will understand not poorly but what is the other thing that can happen to us women that comes once a month! Not fair!!!!
Yes looks like we are all going slightly potty on here!! Haha!! Nice to know it's not just me!!
My plan on Sunday after the run is go home, shower and the out for a few ( a lot) drinkies!! Do not work Mondays or Tuesday so bang tidy for me!
HeOw - yes my cold is purely above the neck so fine with that, thank you for the advice though and hope your cousin went on to make a full recovery.
Scott - I will look out for you as we are booked in for 6pm ... there are 7 of us so look out for us, I'll just go up to random nervous looking men to if they are you lol! If the meal is awful please don't blame me ... I've trusted the online reviews!!!
Ruth - I'm going for the full house ... got that one too, although hopefully not too bad by Sunday ...
We are very similar Pete!! I smoked too. Packed it in 3 years ago and got into running. Hoping exactly the same time as you. Would personally love to do it in 4 or just under too.
Hello all...5 easy miles for me today. Work really busy this week which is taking my mind off this marathon - not sure if this a good thing or not. Weather still looking ok - may be some rain in the afternoon. Will be chilly when first start - but don't make mistake of wearing too many clothes, you will warm up. Maybe have a bin bag over you to keep warm while waiting to start.
To all those hitting the booze after the marathon, from experience it is best to be well fed and fully hydrated before drinking otherwise you'll just feel really lousy later.
Well the weather is looking about as perfect as we could hope for, the undulations on Jason's graph arent as scary as they first appeared and Dr Dan is sounding more positive by the day. All looking good at this stage
Good luck everyone

Ah shheeittt 15W, you saying I can't start the cocaine binge until I have drank me 2 litres a day? I have saved my pack of jarg ("fake" to non-Scousers) Lambert & Butler especially for the celebrations. I shall share them out to all those who beat their targets above. Sorry, Losers, you will have to make do with what's in the Goody Bag.
Sports massage - check. Asked her to make my legs into an elite athlete's. She seemed none too keen. Loosened my shoulder too which seems to tense up when I am err panicking about errr coming last.
Hills. HILLS. Who said there were HILLS? I was promised they would iron them out before Sunday. Please tell me Chester hasn't developed Snowdonia type elevation, I cannae cope with any more stress.
I'm off to RunnersNeed to buy my gels and arm warmers *tw@t* For Manchester, I posted a photo of me the night before the night before the race of me in my shorts, vest and my turquoise arm warmers on my FB. Oh how we all laugh now. This time, I am saying NOWT on my FB.
claire, I will be in a party of 2, just me and the mrs. she will look bored, as I will mostly be going on about split times, pace per mile, jels, breakfast etc.
Dave, I do know it but it's not a hill!? However I can see by mile 24 it feels like Nevis. I need to go run up it tomorrow I think on my 3 miler. Then I can decide whether to detour around it on Sunday.
HeOw - save me a place on your boat will you? Might have to hang around a while for me to get there though! Reckon you could make a fortune with a river boat taxi service
I am not reading this thread anymore if people start talking about hills ... I'm going for blissful ignorance as a strategy.

Claire sorry but you can't steal me thunder kid, only moi allowed on the speedboat. Might set off fireworks as I enter the bridge under the racecourse too. Nice finish.
I'm fuming, Runnersneed is no more in Wirral. Would have thought the little shits would have at least personally rang me to tell me they were shutting down. I buy EVERYTHING from there. Dunno if I can do marathon now. I'm bereft. I've no black arm warmers and my turquoise ones won't match me Green Helsby Vest. It's a disaster...
