not sure i can cope with reading anymore blogs about events - people think i am having some sort of 'issue' at my desk when i go from to then to at the end.
i had planned going up to the full distance next year although I'm now in two minds about it. Little person #2 is due to bounce into our lives in the New Year and this, together with keeping a very boisterous (will be) 3 year old entertained may stretch things somewhat.
That said, as others will and already have, it all comes down to simple time management and fitting the training around the family and work.
Anyway, ill continue to enjoy catching up on this thread and will get my backside into contributing more to it.
Hi Donkey, long time no see! Good to have you back. Congratulations on the impending arrival. Don't worry about training/IM with a 3 year old and a new baby - family first and just do what you can when you can.
Scribe, I'm going to read your report tonight when kids are in bed and hubby is at work so no-one asks why I'm crying.
A wee spin on the bike for me today. The hip is being naughty so I just did 30mins and lots of stretching after. Plan is to get the time/mileage back up in gradual increments with plenty of stretching/strength/core work in between. Hopefully that'll keep the old war wounds under control. The reduction in activity post-Outlaw has definitely not been good for my back.
Still managed 15.6mph average, and tipped over 30mph a couple of times*, so happy enough with that.
Thanks everyone - am looking forward to having to up my caffine intake come the new year. I remember being asked to go home from work a few weeks into the live of my first born as I'd fallen asleep during a team meeting.
NR – I’m most inclined to do as you mention. Making plans to do the full distance 7 / 8 months after the new person arrives will be tough on the family so I’ll probably pencil in a few Olympic races and perhaps a HIM at a push towards the end of the ’14 season.
I’ve been planning on moving up to the IM distance for the best part of 15 years so another year or two wont be too difficult to swallow.
Ironman Louisville. I'm bib 2463. I'll also be using www.myathletelive.com for on the go real-time tracking. Starting to really care about the weather forecast.
Here are the high temps the last few years for the race.
2012 35C 2011 32C 2010 36C 2009 31C
The forecast for this year, so far, is 28C. I can only hope!
7 weeks into my IMUK 2014 training, up to 2.2k in the pool ( from 25m at the start) , bike is going fine, regular rides on empty and some endurance rides ( manc 100, 1st sept) and can now manage an hours running, slowly. Weight is done from 18st 4 to 16st 9 . Long way to go but loving it
Only another week of climbing the walls IY. I'm trying to send some Scottish weather your way.
30 mins of running done yesterday.
I've slipped into some less-than-healthy eating habits lately - an extended post-Outlaw celebration - so I've started using My Fitness Pal to keep an eye on what I'm eating. Mainly to stop the bulk of my daily calorie intake coming from chardonnay and Doritos.

At last, Ironman race report done. It has pictures. It's quite long (that's what she said!) - http://www.runwalkcrawl.com/tim-you-are-an-ironman/
Nice report mate.
mmmm mini chedders. I think I might need to go to the shops now.
Great write up mate. Nearly made me blub a bit at my desk (nearly)
Cake, i've been eating mini chedders everyday since IM. They will be one of my tri bag snacks for ever more.

Very inspirational reading
Wonderful write up, really enjoyed it.

*No, they weren't on 15% downhills
just the 14% then.
Congrats ID.
I'm off for a second test run in 10 minutes to see if I break or not.....I'm hoping not.
Nice write up Tim! Served as a good dose of inspiration as I'm in the throes of taper madness. 12 days to go for me.
Ace report Scribe.
This "raised an eyebrow every time a new Wiggle parcel arrived," made me giggle - sounds very familiar!
Anyhoo, must go and get a tissue, I seem to have something in my eye
Congrats ID!!!
IronYank, remind me which race you're doing so I can track you.
And Nursey, every one of those Wiggle deliveries was essential kit. Honest. And I like Haribo.

Well done mate, admitting that you like Haribo is the first step to recovery. Be strong.
I genuinely feel aggrieved when a package from Wiggle arrives without Haribo.

Even 28C would melt me.
Good luck Yankee ... I presume that this is this weekend coming?
Congrats ID, good luck IY.

Thats good progress Gazhilla !!
You're where I was a week before IMUK this year!
By the way, pork pies are recovery food, right? Right?
You're where I was a week before IMUK this year!
Anything you bloody well like is recovery food
Sorry, it's the 25th.

When's Outlaw on channel 4? I seem to remember someone saying it was this weekend, but I've probably got that wrong
Nursey, this weekend it's IM UK, Sunday at 6.35. Not sure about Outlaw.
I think its IMUK this weekend
