"Lactate Threshold Run 9 w/ 4 @ LT Pace" still makes me laugh as the first run of the 18/55-70 plan
Let's see if you're still laughing at the end
SS, your avatar is the picture that appears next to your name - it's something to do with your settings and uploading a pic but it's all a bit of guesswork and hit and miss for me, so I'll leave the proper explanation to more tech-savvy folk... There is a list of who is doing what a couple of pages back - I think there are one or two for Dublin
"All his training had been focused on breaking the UK 100km record, something he achieved at the British Championships at the start of May. His time of 6:19.19, an average of 6.06 per mile over 62 miles, was 46 minutes clear of his nearest rival."
Steady 12 miler in local forest park yesterday and a steady 6.5 miler earlier with a twist..between mile 5-6 i did 3 x400m hill repeats rep 1-1.38 rep-2 1.35 rep3-1.31..
Tbats me till friday as ive a niggly groin injury i picked up last week after the half marathon..booked in for a massage tmorrow..cant seem to shift it with good stretching workouts pre and post run..doesnt annoy me when im running only when ive been sitting a while..
Nice hill reps thrown in there SRS. Hope the groin injury shifts soon.
Good job on the updated list kease7, that'll keep us all focussed.
Week 1/18 of 55/70 kicked off with a completely hilarious 10 miles w/4 @MP earlier (I added another mile for even more laughs ).
It sure wasn't pretty and it took a 0.5 mile downhill section and a bit of a sprint finish to nip in under my HMP, but job done anyway. Legs definitely felt a bit heavy and sluggish, perhaps due to my substitution of 225g bags of Doritos as some kind of fancy new age Ugali wonder diet over the last 4 weeks.
That's my plan too SS. I know 55 works for me, but I suspect I won't carry on getting chunks off my times without an increase in miles, so it's 12/55 up to October, then I will have a bash at 55-70 for a spring marathon.
Top tip of the day- don't go for a run in the evening after eating strawberries at lunchtime as 7 steady miles became anything but steady tonight as had to try and LT the last 2 home but didn't quite manage it
Base building again this week before starting week 1 of 18 55-70 next week. Will be useful tracking Fergster being a week ahead and gunning for a similar target time. Good last 0.5m tactic there to hit target pace today!
MileMarker - there's definitely something to be said from learning from those who are racing about 3 weeks or so before you do. The VLM crowd helped to prepare me for what to expect for some of the higher mileage / difficult weeks. Forewarned is forearmed and all that.
Right there with you Macca, it feels really weird not doing any LT/MP runs. Though this is week 2 post marathon, which I now remember from last time is my Feel Like Death week. Funny, I felt pretty much fine in the first week, then since Sunday I've been alternately ravenous, migraine-ridden or just plain knackered.
Question. It's nearly time for some new main shoes, and I'm debating what to do. I will probably stick with the devil I know for training, I have nothing but praise for my Lunar Eclipses, but do racing flats make a difference for, y'know, racing? I tried on a pair of Kinvaras the other day but they were a bit too minimalist for me. I feel like I need a little support, but I like the idea of some lighter shoes for racing, and would like to get some good and early if I'm going for it to practise in them. Any recommendations to try out?

There you go NN - a fully fledged P&Der at last!!
Shane - that's your internet forum picture/representation thingy - I think I can guess what it might be already..
Good luck with the LT Fergster - that session sounds ghastly all of a sudden.

Holy hell...
"All his training had been focused on breaking the UK 100km record, something he achieved at the British Championships at the start of May. His time of 6:19.19, an average of 6.06 per mile over 62 miles, was 46 minutes clear of his nearest rival."
He is completely amazing. His interview on marathon talk was one of my favourite ones. He's so unassuming and lovely-sounding as well.
Although
"I'm going to Wenty my LT session tonight"
sounds so much better than
"I'm going to Way my LT session tonight"
Just sayin'.
Did RyanSnell run the Kent Road runner marathon on Saturday? Does he run for winchester?
If so a cracking 2:50 on that course and conditions is fantastic, He looked super strong through out.

Well I managed 11 miles last week....... not too shabby.
DT accused me of not sticking to the plan last spring!!!!! I cant believe the slanderous DT'er!!!!
Steve and Stewart: nice first weeks training
Fergster: that sure is a killer first run
Nice one NN!
15West: good 8 miler
2 weeks till my plan starts. Steady run of just over 7 miles today, building up the mileage again
He is pretty incredible isn't he. Inspiring as he's 'normal' and not some untouchable elite.
Makes me consider 2016 Olympics....

Lesson learned. No more junk food.
Kease7, I noticed that you're following the 70-85 plan - will you be following it religiously and NOT taking a day off, or will you be tweaking?
i will be watching your progress as if i have a successful 18/55 marathon i will move up to 55-70..

Sorry couldn't work out how to get rid of the new line space when adding myself.

Good on ya bookie, I'm resisting the temptation but loitering here with intent.
Ferg, you've deviated already, 10 w/4 at MP and you're throwing in half marathon pace? tut tut
nice hills SRS. I believe Mr P himself said if he were to rewrite the book he'd put more hills in.
Booktrunk - shift + enter (one of the many things I learnt on the spring thread)
