I'm at the Camden Court Hotel, after the disaster last year called the "Travel Lodge" I thought I would book it myself for a change. It looked nice when we all met there for drinks last year.
Flying from Aberdeen on Saturday, back home again on the Tuesday.
The Serpantine Hall isn't that far from town, there are trains (called the Dart - like an underground but above ground) running close by and buses, no.8 I think but don't quote me on that one.
Sarcy - how was the race last year? were there pace groups? was it easy to get into your running pace at the start? Lucozade available on the course? sorry for all these questions!!
The race was better last year because they ran the course the opposite way from the year before so we missed out on a rather nasty hill at 18 miles.
Don't know if there were pace groups, not official ones anyway.
The start is kind of chaotic but a good atmosphere. 8500 runners and walkers crammed into a bit of a bottle neck and it doesn't ease up any till about mile 3 or 4.
Lucozade is on the course, the big 500ml bottles, not the easiest to drink from on the run. There is also some Power Bar gels and bars after 16 miles or so.
Lots of support at the start and the finish is brilliant, in the middle can be a bit quiet though apart from any Yanks in the area.
I preferred the course with the hill at 18 miles, cos it was nice to have a spell through the park when you're starting to get tired. Last time I spoke to the organisers they weren't able to tell me which way round the course will be this year, depends on road works etc.
All I get from Hubby is 'I've done it before' But as I keep telling him that was in 1988 and I haven't done it but its not working at the moment. Think I might have to get daughters wedding out of the way first then try again.
