Thanks Steady. Then comes the hard part .... training for it!!!! Not sure this is a good idea. I am a lot older now than when I did my best marathon time. Hubby is running FLM on Sunday and is way undertrained compared to when he ran his best time of 3.07. so I have bet him that whatever he does on Sunday I will beat in Dublin by 1 min. I am hoping he is not going to go under 5 hours on Sunday or I will be up the proverbial creek so to speak in Dublin. But then he has a habit of pulling out all the stops just to spite me I am sure. So if he stays undertrained for Dublin as well then you never know I might just try and beat him there. LOL.
I'm seriously tempted by this one. I like the idea of it being on a monday - enabling a few(!) beers to be drunk on the saturday without impacting too much on monday's fun.
Off on overnight train to London. Hope to pick up entry form at one of the stands at the exhibition seeing as I can't enter on line. I even e-mailed active europe tp ask about payment by switch card but they didn't reply. So will get my entry away next week.
You're absolutely right - what was I thinking of. Will all the black stuff that I'll drink over the weekend I think the only thing that'll get me to the finish is the thought that there will be a loo at the end.

I've booked flights and accomodation. Just been back to the site to enter the race and found that numbers are not posted and have to be collected before 6 o'clock on the Sunday. My flight from the UK doesn't get in until after 6 on the Sunday!!
Anyone know if alternative arrangements can be made for number collection?
I don't know. I've e-mailed the organisers to see if there are any other options. I'll have to see what they say.
I've been thinking about doing my first marathon for some time. I saw some cheap flights and quickly (too quickly as it's turned out!) made up my mind to give it a go.
I forgot about that, just checked my flight details and fortunately we land at 1410, so it will be taxi to hotel then on to the Expo I think.
Last year they didn't ask for any sort of ID just the acknowledgment slip in exchange.

Booked the flights, just looking for a hotel for girlfriend and I - any suggestions ? Did it last year and arrived too late to pick up number but contacted the organisers before hand and they dropped off all the relevant paperwork at the hotel we were staying at. Hope this helps.
So guys.. whats the deal with active Europe .com.. you enter online and then what happens??
I've just entered and according to the registration details, I am no 2608.. does something come through the post or do I just turn up at the place and get me stuff?

Getting excitied already! Half marathon in Stratford this weekend, then a business trip to Dublin next week, then a couple of weeks torecover before I start the serious training!!!! Mind you, not that serious! My first marathon, hoping to finish in no more than 5:30. Doesnt sound impressive, but I will be bloody delighted!!!!
Nellie, to be doing a marathon in the first place is the impressive bit so good luck.
Barkles, from what I gather we get no stuff through the post but turn up with our number/email at the expo to collect race pack...I think but if anyone else knows more let me know too please :-)
The word on the street is that you turn up the sat or sunday before to get your number.
Flights are going fast - my flight that cost 29 quid last week is now closer to 100, although sticking around until tuesday makes at least one of the legs cheap.
As for hotels try dublinhotels.com, and check out what they are like on tripadvisor.com. Tempting though it is, I decided to stay away from staying above a pub since I might need some sleep on sunday night.
Thanks Cinders. Every bit of encouragement helps! We got a good deal at Jurys Inn through Air Wales. Anyone else fancy fflying from a field full of sheep with a bit of tarmac in it??!! Can't wait, just to prove to myself that I am capable of doing this!
