Morning Bear and JJ. Off on a long walk tomorrow, JJ, with Helephant, V-rap, and Bear in the dinomobile, to recce the checkpoints for Trailwalker. Then a run on Sunday.
Moooooooorning. Anybody there???? Bit dull and damp here and the forecast is for more of the same over the next few days. I will have to do a bit of gardening though, come what may!
Good run last night. Lovely conditions - bright and clear, not too warm. Quite a large group until about a mile from the finish. There was a really spiteful hill. It was up the side of a field, a narrow rough path with a hedge either side, and you just had to put your head down, shorten your stride and get up on your toes. It was about 10 minutes worth of puffing and panting and burning calf muscles. The five of us who were at the front dug in and worked hard. Got to the top (where a handy farm cart was parked for us to lean on)and had a little rest whilst waiting for the rest of the group (about 6 people). They never came. We carried on back to the club and they were already there having taken the easy option of climbing under barbed wire into the adjoining field (which is private land, fenced off, but much flatter!)
20 minutes on treddy this morning of which 15 was non-stop plodding at a medium pace. Felt as if I could have done a lot more, but tries to ensure I could do the same agian in a couple of days.
Hike with VRap over the South Downs tomorrow as final recce and prep for Trailwalk (eek, only 2 weeks away!)
Morning all, my erratic running continues. Yesterday I ran my fastest time for a bit over a 5 mile course without feeling too tired whereas the previous day's 5-miler was a real struggle (and nearly a minute per mile slower). Ho-hum.
I run with a small group on Friday lunchtime - can't miss that. I don't think I'm overtraining though - I would expect every run to be a struggle in that case.
oh dear, waited too long and now its raining!! that horrible, doesent look like rain type of rain but soaks you in seconds rain that lasts for hours. Do you get the impression i dont want to go out init. should have gone earlier but cat needed a trip to vets and then it was coffee time , and then the rabbits needed a bit of a talking to, they are not keeping their hutch very clean! and now its raining (did i mention it was raining?) Davidb i didnt realise you ran, i thought you were part of RW team of spies, guaranteed to keep the forumites (female) smiling!
DavidB, the essence of being able to run regularly, is to be able to alter the intensity of your training. If one good run results in the next day being a minute per mile slower, then so be it.
oh and sorry, in reply to earlier question JJ, i am working sat night and sun night so do have a bit of time saturday but the thought of work looming takes the fun out of things!
jon, you were serious the other week as well when you were talking bout shoes, werentt you???????......thats worrying, its the forthcoming nuptials with kermie, making you grown up and responsible
Jon: I quite agree agree but at the moment it seems to be the other way round. I'm quite used to the fact that if I push myself one day then I need to take it easy the next. In fact my training consists of one run a week where I push myself quite hard with the remaining runs being relatively easy. At the moment I go out with the intention of pushing myself but end up stuggling all the way (and running slowly). The next day I might manage a fast run but I honestly don't know until I'm halfway round whether it's going to be a good one or not. This seems rather curious to me (it's not my pacing either, I can judge pace to within 10secs per mile).
(Pssst, caramac, had a meeting with RW Head Office, they thought I needed to talk about running a bit more so as not to blow my cover.)
david, do you have a heart rate monitor? I think it's possibly a good idea if you ease yourself in (titter) to your harder sessions. That, or perhaps shorten the distance on your harder run and follow it up with a rest day.

Whaddya mean? Should the Over 60s be the Over 70s by now or are you thinking of recruiting some younger blood?
