Hippo You did 38.5 miles more than I did anyway. What you described was remarkably similar to the nightmare going round in my head - I could just picture myself lying in a bog sobbing, not knowing which way to go. I can't help feeling my cat might have saved me from disaster! I think you did brilliantly too. All sorts of people just stick to safe events and never really leave their comfort zone. You went out and did it despite being frightened and only withdrew because they made you. You may not get the coffin badge, but I think you deserve a medal for true grit.
She's not kidding-Jugger ravine was seriously scary, I spent a little while contemplating after I went over. Ended up using the stream bed as it seemed slightll grippier and hanging on to the heather. Well, only 3 weeks to Boddington.
Great achievement Hippo to get so far on your own in those conditions. I know what you mean about that ravine. It sapped every ounze of my strength climbing out of there and thoughts of stopping crossed my mind. Fortunately I was pulled along by Loz who had gone into overdrive at that point.
Those quarter hourly chimes in osmotherley were torture. I'm glad someone else heard them. Mrs NMP slept like a log all night -she thought I was imagining things when I told her.
You write about that so vividly Hippo that I found myself being scared by the ravines and being alone with the sucking muck!
Even tame little Henley on Thames had me sweating with fear on occasions, when I was lost and on my own. Imagining that fear magnified by the descents, the ascents and the moor - definitely stuff of nightmares.
Well done Hippo for getting so far. You're certainly not a failure for attempting something like this and getting so far. Don't lose confidence, feel proud for having the guts to have a go. Those moors look bleak places to be on your own.
NMP/Bog trotter, likewise, I couldn't have done it on my own. If I was strong at the end, you were amazing with the bog-trotting. Maybe you need to take up that sport. It was nice for Laura to have company as well, they did the supporting thing very well.
It's weird though 'cos I've felt a lot worse after races than this one, which is maybe a bad thing 'cos I might be tempted to do it again, and Casper's definately got to go back next year.
No, we were down in Sussex but it was the same at Lyke Wake-the chap I walked up to Lila cross with said it was too hot to run last year. It was just right for running but of course it meant a lot of the route was hard going
